Princess Anne back to work today

I am very pleased to see that Princess Anne has been able to attend a Riding for the Disabled event at Hartpury University today. I expect she has been champing at the bit to be permitted to get back out and about. Good choice for first event back, horse related and very close to her home.

W&C have posted about PA's visit yesterday, on their instagram, with the caption 'Super trooper! So great to see you back so soon! W&C x'

That’s lovely.

halava · 13/07/2024 11:23

Good to see that she is doing OK. Perhaps she may have needed some dental work if her jaw was affected.

I sometimes think she could be more accepting of setbacks and not be the warrior all the time. Some people with a similar injury could feel useless if they see her up and about so quickly, when they remain in bits. Not everyone has medical and other care at hand 24/7 which allows one to be a "super trooper". Especially at an age when recovery might not be as quick as when in your 20s. I am 67 myself, so no ageism here.

No doubt I will be howled at. But so be it.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 13/07/2024 13:16

I wonder if she actually waited for the 'green light' from doctors that we hear about in reference to royals so often these days?

CurlewKate · 13/07/2024 13:47

@halava "I sometimes think she could be more accepting of setbacks and not be the warrior all the time"

What other example are there?

It's similar to celebs having a baby then looking perfect again almost immediately - regular people in similar situations could feel inferior or useless.
In some ways it'd be a positive thing for PA and for Catherine to release some real photos showing the reality of what they're going through - but obviously I know they're under no obligation to do so, it's just a thought

spikeandbuffy · 13/07/2024 14:55

She's very very lucky. My friend was kicked in the head by a horse and found dead in the field age 31 Sad

Oh that's so sad. Sorry to hear that. What a tragic thing to happen.

Oh grow up. I didn't say any of that bullshit, as you well know.

It was clear that I said they're under no obligation to show anything.
The photos of Anne are heavily made up, and Catherine has looked nothing short of immaculate since her diagnosis.
My only thought is that the public image hides the hellish reality of it all.

LaMarschallin · 13/07/2024 15:33

My only thought is that the public image hides the hellish reality of it all.

So what is it you actually want to see in photos to show what they're going through?
It seems Princess Anne's very obvious (despite make-up) bruises aren't enough for you. Should she not have worn any cosmetics - would that have been adequate?
And what would you like Kate to do? Have a close-up with no make-up or hair styling?

Maybe the press not downplaying the "slight bruising under her eye" etc would help.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 13/07/2024 15:51

Once again, the RF getting blamed for what the press says about them.

Heavens above. I gave an opinion and it's being ripped apart. Give over.

LaMarschallin · 13/07/2024 16:04

Once again, the RF getting blamed for what the press says about them.

Exactly.
Of course, we can't use our own eyes and see how bad the bruising is - we are only capable of believing what the press say.

ReadyTeddy1000

I'm still curious as to what the nature of these "real photos" should be.
A close friend had breast cancer. Not once did I see her without makeup and her wig on because it made her feel good about herself and she didn't want even her best friends to see her at her worst.
Why shouldn't Kate feel the same? And it wouldn't be just her friends or even well-wishers. In fact, it would include some ill-wishers, sadly
If I was famous and liable to be photographed and have my pictures published, I'd do my damndest to look my best under any circumstances.
It's not Kate's fault that she's beautiful so scrubs up extremely well.

I didn't blame the RF for what the press said. If that's how it comes across, it's not what I meant.

Re the photos, it was just a thought. When my sister was ill with breast cancer and struggled to get through a day, looking and feeling like death, it would have been disheartening for me as her sister to see someone also going through chemo looking pristine.
That's all. It wasn't anything more or less than that, so please stop ripping apart my comment as it's upsetting.

Other cancer patients don’t have to take account of your feelings when they are deciding what helps them get through the day. No matter who they are.

Most cancer patients don’t have an army of online ghouls waiting to tear them apart by any means necessary.

Patronising much 🥴
Disagreeing isn't the same as ripping someone's comment apart

Ah, I had no idea about any of this. Thanks for explaining 👌🏻

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 13/07/2024 16:34

You have just said Catherine looking immaculate whilst under cancer treatment upsets you. You have said she should show the hell of cancer, but have not responded in what way she should do this. Nobody is tearing you apart. Posters are trying to understand what you want from Catherine. It seems to me that you want her to be “performative” to appease your feelings rather than do what is right for her to make her feel comfortable whilst on public duty.

SuncreamAndIceCream · 13/07/2024 16:37

VeryOldMan · 13/07/2024 11:04

And why not?
New outfit for every occasion is wasteful in the extreme.

Oh I love that she regularly re wears clothes from her youth

The best part is that she still fits them!

so please stop ripping apart my comment as it's upsetting.

Nobody has "ripped your comment apart" - you just haven't been able to answer any of the questions asked of you.
I'm sorry you find that "upsetting" but you can't throw comments/opinions out onto a discussion forum and expect not to be challenged if people don't agree with you.
I totally see why you wish people would "give over". I will now because I don't think you've anything else to say to justify why people in the public eye should publish photos showing "the reality of what they're going through".
I'm sure you didn't mean it to be ghoulish at all but I could see it could come across like that.

Really? You would not be heartened by seeing someone who is maybe further ahead in the game than your sister? Why do they have people ring bells? To celebrate! Are those people disheartening to others who are perhaps later back in the game? You would feel disheartened by them? That is a very odd stance.

PrincessMee · 13/07/2024 17:00

Pristine? Immaculate?
