Will he?

I am no gambler but I can’t see it myself. Not unless he wants to show his support of his son. Would KC be that generous to his ‘darling boy’? If he did it will definitely upset some anti Harry royalists/daily mail readers/ right wing Americans. Can’t have Harry receiving the King surely….he is supposed to be beyond the pale these days.

William is reported as being ‘baffled’. Baffled? More like blazingly angry about it if true. I guess Will’s thought he could act like a ‘cuckoo’ and get Harry out now and forever. Maybe, the ‘bullying’ trait reported over the years by many, many people regarding him is still there.

As CurlewKate said, you can still be a Republican and have an opinion about the individuals involved. The family soap opera is interesting!

One of the many reasons I want a Republic is that some members of the RF end up as collateral damage in order to satisfy the demands of the institution of the monarchy. And I think this is antiquated and unnecessary in 2024, particularly when it concerns children.

Also, I studied history at university and continue to have an interest in all sorts of topics related to the governance and constitution of the uk if that’s ok with you?

I happen to think that Harry and his wife have been treated poorly by the institution, so yes I do tend to be on his side generally, not with everything, but mostly, and I am glad he is shaking things up a bit frankly! This is no secret! I’ve stated this many times and never made a secret of it!

I didn’t realise I needed approval from you to share an honest opinion on a public forum. Perhaps I should bow my head and ask you to sign my permission chit next time? 😀

Sure. But you specifically said you didn't care, I quoted you directly above.

I happen to think that Harry and his wife have been treated poorly by the institution, so yes I do tend to be on his side generally, not with everything, but mostly, and I am glad he is shaking things up a bit frankly! This is no secret! I’ve stated this many times and never made a secret of it!

Again, I quoted you above saying you didn't care.

But now you do?

Which is it?

And Harry is hardly 'shaking things up'. He's good entertainment value, but he's pretty irrelevant as regards the monarchy or the country. His departure really hasn't impacted the monarchy in any meaningful way. If anything, he's made the royals more, not less, popular.

I didn’t realise I needed approval from you to share an honest opinion on a public forum. Perhaps I should bow my head and ask you to sign my permission chit next time?

I simply quoted your own words from a few posts ago.

If you directly contradict yourself, it's hardly surprising if people notice.

How so?

Really great to see the ABC Chicago interview which, funnily enough, I haven't seen linked to any articles in the British media!

It really makes a mockery of all of the twisted hype we get fed in the uk doesn't it, as it shows Harry being calm, sensible and fielding difficult questions on the hoof with restraint and skill. And no he is not making Invictus all about him, he is putting the charity at the forefront.

There are billions of people in the world, hundreds of millions in the USA and a small percentage of people who use Harry as a whipping boy these days. People in every culture like to vent and he is just the latest one to vent upon. His fan base is real and the man himself is definitely an interesting one.

I have just finished reading his book. Thoroughly enjoyed it. It has received over 110,000 ratings and of the ratings 75% are 4 star and 3 star. The overwhelming majority being 4 star.

It is easy to get caught up in a small number of people who will twist everything to make a negative. Hopefully, Harry has a long road ahead where happiness and wellness will follow him. As for the seedy papers they can be used as ass wipes when camping in the Cotswolds should the loo rolls run out again. 😜

I do like the republican with a special interest in the 5th inline to be monarch, it’s seems to be a special club. A multimillionaire before books and profits who is still so invested in the monarchy ensured his children remained 6th and 7th despite the institution or firm as Harry calls it. Its the old classic, “I’m a republican” is a complete sentence the word “but” really dampens it. Its a bit like I’m anti the Tories but I’d vote for Boris.

smilesy · 04/07/2024 18:35

'I happen to think that Harry and his wife have been treated poorly by the institution'

Well if you are a republican and don’t care about the Royals, of what consequence is it that H&M have been “treated poorly” by said institution? Presumably you don’t want a Royal family at all, so why are you worried about two members thereof who are desperate to remind us of how royal they are at all times? It’s not like Harry has shouted “vive la republique”. He is clearly in favour of being Royal so how does that fit with being a republican?

CurlewKate · 04/07/2024 18:35

Thank you @Recuperation7! Frankly, she can scroll through my old posts as much as she likes. It's something for her to do while we wait for the polls to close. Personally, I'm watching Starsky and Hutch (the original) which I think is much more fun!

The 'I don't care about any of this and just happened to post multiple times on a royal family discussion' is getting very old.

Isn’t it just, pretending to be republicans yet are clearly massive fans of Meghan and Harry, at least own your fandom.

Edited

I really resent the assumption though that because I mostly support Harry, I must therefore be a massive fan of everything that Harry and Meghan do, and I am always being accused of being a supporter of the Sussex Squad when it’s simply not true.

Btw, I have nothing against Meghan either. I am pretty neutral towards her tbh. I thought her charity work in the uk was well
chosen and well done. Apart from that I don’t know much about her.

The point is, I wouldn’t dream of supporting anyone who trolls others on the internet or is deliberately nasty. I don’t care who they support.

Posters don’t automatically have to be lumped together in to one faction or another just because they happen to hold a different opinion to your own. We all have different views relating to different aspects of this saga.

The thing I particularly object to, is one person ie Harry, and his wife, being berated and villified over and over again in numerous newspaper articles and in numerous threads on here. And that’s because it feels too much like bullying for my liking. I would feel the same way about nasty threads if they were about William and Katherine as well.

Most of all I think we should be allowed to express our individual opinions without others on these threads querying our right to do so all of the time.

Where else is a Republican going to express an opinion except on the RF threads? Would it make sense if we posted about King Charles III in the Housekeeping or Weight Loss topics instead? 😀

I’ve asked Mumsnet HQ for a separate Republican topic as it happens, but until one is forthcoming, I shall carry on posting here thanks.

Do you wish happiness and wellness for the Princess of Wales, who has unfortunately been quite unwell lately and who’s only “sin” seems to have been marrying in to the royal family, yet she has been vilified by supporters of Harry?

Oooh, enjoy, I haven’t watched Starsky and Hutch in years! I am a big fan of Cagney and Lacey re-runs though! 😀

I take it you weren't around at the beginning of year.......

To be clear, one can talk about Harry in a supportive manner without trolling anyone else. I believe Harry loves Kate.

Like I said, I didn't search your posts, I remembered that one you started though as it was a doozy. And I won't be scrolling, you're not that interesting! 😂Legally trained mind, I remember all sorts of crap unfortunately.

Don't read it then!

Most people, certainly most republicans, don't actively seek out discussions on the younger son of the king, now working as a CHIMPO in California. In fact most go through life never giving him a thought.

I really think you should desist from badgering another poster, and referring to their posts on other threads, just because they happen to hold a different viewpoint to your own. It’s a bit over-the-top and unnecessary frankly.

Agreed.

@Recuperation7 There is, in fact a RF link to Starsky and Hutch-apparently the Queen Mother was a fan and the actors once got very drunk on gin with Princess Margaret!

GardeningIsntScrapingForSussex · 04/07/2024 18:48

Also legally minded but quite possibly not to the same level of training as you milkshake

Years of looking at legal documents, statements and rulings - trying to find lies, hypocrisy, inconsistencies and the like make for remembering shite that others might not.

Or looking for similarities.

Once you start, you can’t stop.

Who cares if an elderly man with cancer wants to visit his estranged son and grandchildren. That is after all what he is, the riches and privilege etc mean nothing really in the end, you only get one life and age and illness will likely get all of us. To make amends before it's too late on a personal level is important for closure for all involved during family rifts.

This 👆👆 also - none of our business. Why on earth would we begrudge him/it be an issue for him, to make a visit to his son and grandchildren? Good grief op.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 04/07/2024 18:58
