Will he?

I am no gambler but I can’t see it myself. Not unless he wants to show his support of his son. Would KC be that generous to his ‘darling boy’? If he did it will definitely upset some anti Harry royalists/daily mail readers/ right wing Americans. Can’t have Harry receiving the King surely….he is supposed to be beyond the pale these days.

William is reported as being ‘baffled’. Baffled? More like blazingly angry about it if true. I guess Will’s thought he could act like a ‘cuckoo’ and get Harry out now and forever. Maybe, the ‘bullying’ trait reported over the years by many, many people regarding him is still there.

King Charles 'in discussions' to visit Prince Harry for first time in years - as 'reason' behind trip revealed

King Charles is said to be in discussions to visit his estranged son Prince Harry in America for the first time in years - but his wife and Prince William are reportedly not happy

I wasn’t “all over them” no.

I commented on one or two of them making points about the poor Palace communication as I recall.

I didn’t say anything nasty about Katherine and wouldn’t do so.

Again, I don’t know why it’s so hard to understand that if you don’t like nastiness and trolling on principle, you don’t like it full stop about anyone!

It's Catherine.

But you've just said that your only comment on the many awful threads about 'Katherine' was to criticise 'the Palace'!

You are only bothered by 'vitriol' when it's directed at your republican royals of choice?

I'm not sure what the poster's problem is?

It's not like she's posting a principled republican case. She's simply reiterating all the usual stuff about 'vitriol' from the 'British media' towards her preferred royal. Who of course she doesn't really care about.

If she hadn't told us she was a 'republican', I wouldn't have had a clue.

There is absolutely no need to have a republican discussion mentioning any member of the RF. it’s a constitutional issue that transcends current royal personalities, squabbles, gossip and fashion talk. If republicans can’t have a discussion about turning this country into a republic without making it a personal attack on members of the RF (which they inevitably are on this board), then it’s not a movement that’s up to much.

Recuperation7 · 04/07/2024 19:02

Yes, exactly this!

Edited to say: I think Harry had great affection for Katherine, not sure about love!

Edited

Good grief ! I have no doubt they used to be close but since Meghan came on the scene he hasn’t exactly shown much affection !
Given H and M’s supposed campaign against online bullying why haven’t they made a statement condemning the hideous stiff bro g said about Catherine earlier this year ? Why not step in when Catherine was accused of being a racist ?

I agree.

There are many valid arguments in favour of a republic. But I rarely see them put forward on this board.

“I have sympathy for Harry’s position and what he has said about the machinations of the Institution of the monarchy and the people it gobbles up and spits out. “

If the Institution of the Monarchy is so bad, why did Harry want to remain part of it ? Why do he and his wife cling on to their titles and insist on their DC having titles ?

Oh please. I’m trying to be polite but this is getting ridiculous. I love the way you think you have the right to police who posts and what they post! It’s a tad bombastic don’t you think?

Surely you can understand the difference between criticising the Institution of the Monarchy and the individuals within it?

Exception: Some individuals like Andrew invite negative comment I’m afraid.

But Catherine (please note the C not the K) has always done her job very professionally imho.

I did think the palace could have avoided the worst of the speculation by better communication. And so it proved to be, as once Catherine had made a statement everyone, quite rightly, shut up.

Probably @Gorgonemilezola because everyone ahead of Harry in the line of succession hasn’t abdicated or removed themselves to pave the way for Harry to become King and Meghan, Queen.
Oh and they weren’t gifted the whole of Windsor Castle when they married. They had to slum it in Frogmore Cottage.
Terrible, awful treatment! 😂

Don’t forget the 32 million pound ‘spectacle’ of a wedding that was forced upon them, and Meghan didn’t get the tiara she wanted either, so cruel, and Prince Charles walking her down the aisle I thought was particularly nasty treatment.

Mylovelygreendress · 04/07/2024 20:04

No @Recuperation7 people did not “ shut up” after Catherine made her statement! SM was rife with comments saying it wasn’t her , William had left her because she was sitting on her own , there was no need for her to be away from official duties because someone’s neighbour’s friend still went to work for 12 hours a day while having chemo etc etc .

A yes the wedding that they wanted in Westminster Abbey or St Paul’s ? And we’re annoyed they couldn’t have a red carpet ?

I assume it’s because it was the only thing he had been trained to do, once he left the army, and because he was good at charity work and found it fulfilling and assumed that was what he would be doing for the rest of his life.

I think he has always consistently said that he didn’t want to leave but circumstances led to it being impossible for him to stay.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 04/07/2024 20:08

I did think the palace could have avoided the worst of the speculation by better communication. And so it proved to be, as once Catherine had made a statement everyone, quite rightly, shut up.

So, having made it clear she would not be returning to public life until afterEaster due to her health, you are happy that a woman who had to digest a cancer diagnosis, and then wanted to wait until a suitable time to tell her small children (ie when they were on school holidays) was hounded into making an earlier than she wanted to televised statement explaining her private medical issues. A statement that was picked apart by Sussex supporter lunatics, including Christopher Bouzy, made famous in the Netflix documentary by his friends, Harry and Meghan. A woman who is not in the line of succession, by the way, and whose health is not public property.

Mylovelygreendress · 04/07/2024 20:09

Those circumstances being that he didn’t get his own way !

I wasn’t aware of those comments because I don’t read those sorts of gossipy websites.

I think the general clamour for information did calm down though from the BBC and other legitimate news outlets.

That’s your interpretation yes.

I prefer to reserve judgement as there are usually two sides to every story.

I think there were probably faults on both sides.

Better communication? The palace made an announcement that Catherine was having major abdominal surgery and would be out of action until Easter, they informed the public of exactly what was happening, but no that wasn’t good enough. I think it’s awful that Catherine was put in the position of having to make a public statement about her health because of the international bullying she had received, and I am shocked that you endorse that considering you are apparently so against online bullying.

It was too long between announcements sadly given the voracious, and unscrupulous in many cases, 7/24 hr news cycle.

I am not saying that is right. I am saying it is the reality of modern day news media and sm.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 04/07/2024 20:16

The news cycle was being fueled by social media, namely the Sussex Squad. US tabloids (big supporters of H&M) were picking up the conspiracies, and these were subsequently picked up in the UK. There has been a lot of analysis of this. The Sussex supporters are the root of the evil against Catherine, and it's been going on for much, much longer than her illness.

Actually no, they did not 'shut up'.

But that's not really my point.

You claimed that you are bothered by 'vitriol' against anyone. But that's clearly not the case, is it? Like many a 'stalwart', you directed your energy towards perceived communications errors by 'the Palace'. Not at all towards the lurid speculation surrounded Kate's, clearly explained, absence.

Yet you actively seek out 'vitriol' to be offended by when it comes to your favoured republican royals?

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 04/07/2024 20:18

@Recuperation7 What is stopping you from discussing republicanism on the Politics board?

CurlewKate · 04/07/2024 20:20

Apparently, Starsky and Hutch got "whacked" with Princess Margaret and lost half a day's filming.

Too long between announcements? Wasn’t she waiting until her children were on half term before telling them? Wasn’t that more important than making sure that the braying idiots on social media and in the press were given an “announcement “? No one else had the right to know before her children and it was up to her when to tell them

typo

You are saying it’s right though, you have blamed the Palace and Catherine for not making her cancer diagnosis public quickly enough, what would have suited you? live coverage from the consultants room? William making a statement on the steps of hospital immediately after receiving the news? What is your ideal timeframe? Basically you are saying it’s Catherine’s fault that she was horrendously bullied because she didn’t announce her cancer diagnosis quickly enough and yet you hate the “bullying” of Harry and Meghan, can you actually hear yourself?

Of course I am not happy about that. Don’t be absurd. And again, thanks very much for incorrectly assuming something so crass about me!

I am saying her team should have handled the comms better for her.

And if they had certain obstacles to doing that such as uncertainty, they could have made a statement that was more open, such as once the situation was clearer they will inform the media when a statement will be made. . There are better ways of handling these things.

I am NOT saying that it is incumbent on C or C’s team, to reveal anything about her illness that she doesn’t want to, as that is private information, but if things are uncertain, it’s better to be honest about that, if that’s all the info you have currently.
