Mary Tillman says " There are recipients far more fitting. He publicly disrespected his family , ran away from service to his country. He is unworthy of this award"

She feels there are recipients far more fitting.

I think she speaks for many.

You can suggest all you like.

I don’t click links from those I do not trust.

A lesson that has served me well.

That and not bothering to read copious copy and paste articles that serve no purpose.

It saves you hours of going down rabbit holes only to find you have just gone down a sewer.

If you want to watch live -here's how to do it. Though it will be 1am in the UK.

Feel free ma'am 😃

I don’t think it’s me that needs to unpack it actually.

Isn’t that the normal time that Harry shows up when he’s giving awards to people in the UK?

In that link and the polling company I can't see how the questions were framed so as to solicit an answer - the fact that Newsweek think it was worth spending serious money on such a poll suggests to me they have an axe to grind. Given that Trump has a better than evens chance of winning the election should these views of seemingly random Americans even count ?

Newsweek were generally pro-Sussex. Jack Royston churned out so many puff pieces favouring them. Then Bouzeygate and The Trooping of the Colour happened, and since then they've been a bit less so. I wonder why...

Some of us have evolved from living in gutters.

Some of us can also post things that pertain to a previous post instead of jibber jabber.

Sometimes it becomes impossible not to smell the shite that is just under their nose.

Sometimes the emperor’s new clothes can be seen as just his Nazi fancy dress uniform.

The truth also might just take a while to be accepted and releases to be seen as the spiteful publicity grab that they are.

Newsweek and Jack Royston in particular have been the Sussexes biggest cheerleaders for several years. Their axes are aimed at the royal family.

I suggest one reads the comments under that poll article - they question the Tillman Foundation itself as well as representing a weird set of contrasting views. Newsweek is a shadow of its former self, indeed it would seem to be involved in clout chasing.

In September 2023, Newsweek announced it would be making use of generative AI in its operations.[50][51] Its AI policy states that generative AI can be used in "writing, research, editing, and other core journalism functions" as long as journalists are involved throughout the process. In 2024, it rolled out an AI video production tool and started hiring an AI-focused breaking news team.[51]

I agree that Newsweek has changed from a respected publication to yet another gossipy rag. Churning out article after article supporting the Sussexes despite all logic and reason has been part of the process of degradation.

The Guardian went funny too, about 10 years ago nearly.

Since TTC they've been pivoting noticeably. Like they've realised W&K are the star power and the story.
They might also have started looking at the BLT comments, which are consistently and seriously anti-Sussex.

BemusedAmerican · 12/07/2024 02:01

Or you can do something productive, secure in the knowledge that if Harry is booed, has visions of the ghost of a seriously pissed- off relative, or has to cross a picket line of angry vets, we'll see highlights online in the AM.

I'm hoping for a Shakespeare moment when the ghost of the Queen Mother tells him that the UK survived Wallis and Edward, and it will survive H & M.

IsoldeWagner · 12/07/2024 06:00

He did indeed, and did refer to Invictus.
However, I'm still of the opinion that he should not have accepted it. He should have acknowledged that there were far more deserving recipients, and declined to accept it with all the fanfare and razzmatazz, fanfare, applause and celebration. Not great.
.However, to do that, you have to be a bigger person.
The bond between mother and son? Of course, that's his shtick. He needs to reflect now, what is he actually hoping to achieve?

CremeFresh · 12/07/2024 06:09

I noticed some people weren't clapping or standing up.

I thought it very crass that he name checked Mary Tillman’s bravery and then tie in Diana. For heaven’s sake, can the woman not be allowed to have her opinion on an award in her dead son’s name without being emotionally blackmailed with the Diana card.

I have no problem at all with the veterans and the principles that Invictus was founded on. Of course nobody will. If the award was about them, it wouldn’t have Harry’s name on it. The award was given for the creation of the games, and the man responsible is Ed Lane Fox. It’s a very easy win for Harry to be presented by veterans and include veteran stories (which were genuinely moving). The veterans are not the ones re-writing history or creating smoke and mirrors or using the games as a shield for an almost failed public image. Had Harry genuinely wanted to acknowledge the award for those who created Invictus, he would have talked about The Royal Foundation, Fox and the other CEOs who have developed and expanded the games - including the two who were mysteriously sacked last year. He wasn’t going to do that though, because he needs the myth that he single handedly created it.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 12/07/2024 06:32

It appears that Marie Tillman and Serena’s husband are involved in the governance of Better Up. This is all interconnected back scratching. Marie Tillman looked unhappy - I am guessing the scrutiny over the Pat Tillman Foundation’s distribution of funds being mostly to staff salaries must be weighing on her conscience.

IsoldeWagner · 12/07/2024 06:40

Good points, @Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar - an easy tie in to Diana.
Of course.
The award is for unsung heros - Harry is very much "sung". Of course he was going to go on stage with a fanfare, hold up a trophy, have his wife in a new dress beam at him. The clicks, the headlines - it's irresistible to him. It keeps him where he wants to be, in the headlines, front page of the Daily Mail.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 12/07/2024 07:06

Good point, @IsoldeWagner . He has sung until he is hoarse about Invictus, as have his supporters. It’s a large, high profile commercial enterprise now. I feel sorry for orgs run by volunteers who get no such acknowledgment. If these awards do one thing, I hope it will be to shine the spotlight on big charities run nefariously, and hopefully encourage people to donate their money to smaller, grass roots causes.

IsoldeWagner · 12/07/2024 07:28

I've certainly started to reflect on this, having recently found out about certain organisations. I now just give directly to smaller, mostly local charities or fundraisers. Not something which lines people's pockets or gives them celebrity status.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 12/07/2024 07:33

I do wonder how Harry feels at times with the clicks at these award ceremonies knowing what he has said previously that they take him back to his mother’s death. Are the clicks worse now that he is out of the fold I wonder? I hope for his MH that they are.

IsoldeWagner · 12/07/2024 07:39

He was a fool to say that he was triggered by clicks. He obviously isn't, there is so much evidence to contradict that statement!
He is someone who clearly basks in the limelight and actively seeks it out.

Locusteater · 12/07/2024 07:42

It would be so nice if the two of them would just shut up and go away . They are going to continue selling their souls for glory at every opportunity however. Harry has become a total embarrassment.
