I’m not sure I’m allowed to point out what’s happened but it feels incredibly childish and also very unfair.

On another board MN wrote about posters and the name change function. That we all use the board for various purposes including for help with DV or other major life issues. Yet here on this RFF it’s an open game to get people riled up then report them to try and get them kicked off permanently. Thus removing any chance at support or community.

Why does a women’s site condone that when it’s so obvious?

AliceOlive · 18/06/2024 11:16

By the way, I told mods that this plan to get posters banned from SM had been openly discussed elsewhere and the response was “we can’t moderate based on what’s happening on other sm” (paraphrase). But it’s happened and continues to happen right here. 🤷‍♀️

Now I know that there's a particular word for photographing the backs of people I think that Kate was experimenting with that, in a way. She is interested in photography and will know much more than I do about the history of photography and trends. Also, she thought it might be quite nice to sock her husband's bum and legs to the chatterati.

I think there might have been a photo of QE2 at one of her jubilees or a big birthday, dressed up and wearing a tiara, looking out to watch the lit-up festivities going on outside, where we see her from behind. I'll go google.

We have an adorable one of my stepson eating watermelon and pointing at a flowering plant in his diaper as a little one.

Also another of him sitting by a lake.

In another life I protested the same, @AliceOlive. I had the same success as you. I don’t think the mods can cope with what they see as bickering but it feels very unjust when you’re on the receiving end of targeted intimidation and harassment.

I admire posters who don’t cave and name change but you can see why it happens.

I’m het up about it. I don’t see any reason to delete an obvious on topic joke (which was quite an obvious one, really) or a one word post.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 18/06/2024 12:36

Luckily the goady ones are obvious, (some of them very much so) which is why I always default to the "be polite so as to give them no ammo to get me deleted" option. If the worst comes to the worst I just leave the conversation. There's no pleasure or sense to be had in stooping to some people's level. This weekend being a good example of that.

AliceOlive · 18/06/2024 12:37

Agreed. But someone else’s post got deleted for just that one word so maybe I shouldn’t even say that.

BadPennyForeverTurningUp · 18/06/2024 12:41

So…. 🎶 mememememememe🎶

So, stately as two galleons, we sail across the floor,
Doing the Valse Valeta as in the days of yore.
The gent is Mrs Tiverton, and I am her lady fair.
She bows to me ever so nicely and I curtsey to her with care. ⛵️

Did anyone happen to see the Royal Family Father’s Day reel on Instagram? Can’t link I’m afraid but it was so lovely, a tribute to Prince Philip.

MummyJ12 · 18/06/2024 14:01

I prefer a less firm biscuit. If they’re too hard they hurt your teeth. Best avoided.

I think it’s a beautiful photo. Hopefully looking ahead to brighter days.

A nice way of interpreting it, @MummyJ12

It was lovely! Such a nice tribute to Prince Philip.

What the Hector is this thread about? People's old mums? The French? 🇫🇷

What the Hector is this thread about? People's old mums? The French? 🇫🇷

A poster above wondered how a Regency Mumsnet would have reacted to James Gillray, renowned satirical cartoonist of the time and his treatment of the then Prince William (later William IV) I think he imagined a parallel with current Prince William (somehow) (not entirely clear, that bit)

The French language was used and an old Mum invoked, I think the latter as proof that the late QE II would have disapproved of the Father's Day photo issued on Sunday by Kensington Palace, which is actually what this thread is about. Well, it was originally.

That's about it. I think. You did ask! 😅

ETA I'm disappointed that there were no seals, vocalising or otherwise.

AliceOlive · 18/06/2024 18:05

I’m so confused? The Queen would have disapproved of the photo?

AliceOlive · 18/06/2024 18:15

The Queen who approved a video showing her jumping out of an airplane and had tea with Paddington bear? That same Queen? I think not.

Baital · 18/06/2024 18:24

The body language looks very loving and natural. Nice photo.

IsoldeWagner · 18/06/2024 18:25

She had such a great sense of humour! The James Bond sketch was great.
She could certainly laugh at herself. I doubt very much that she'd have been critical of any lovely Father's Day picture.
That would be too snide and cruel.

Salemforcuddles · 18/06/2024 18:46

Lovely photo

CurlewKate · 18/06/2024 18:49

I suppose it's possible that the Old Queen, with her transparent umbrellas, brimless hats and strong views on visibility might have preferred faces on show. But it does seem a little odd to be calling her as a witness at this stage.....

LaMarschallin · 18/06/2024 18:58

I suppose it's possible that the Old Queen, with her transparent umbrellas, brimless hats and strong views on visibility might have preferred faces on show.

But wasn't that when people had actually journeyed to an event to see her?
That's completely different, imo.

I suspect that the Queen on an official visit made sure that the public saw her.
A Father's Day picture such as this one is an informal family snap.
There is a difference in purpose.

Uricon2 · 18/06/2024 19:45

I had a grandmother who was quite old when I was born, much older than the late QE, older than the Queen Mother in fact. She maintained some personal standards (never went beyond the garden without a hat) but as she became very old, was less and less bothered by what other people did.

I think the late Queen Elizabeth would have known and accepted that things would change and in fact embraced a lot of change herself, as others have rightly pointed out, the Bond sketch, Paddington, the girl who joined the crowds outside Buckingham Palace on VE night in fact.

IsoldeWagner · 18/06/2024 19:49

Good points, @Uricon2 .
I just can't imagine the mindset of people continuing to pull apart a lovely family photo, considering how events of the last six months must have impacted that family.
To consider that the late Queen would have disapproved of such an image is extraordinary.
