"But wasn't that when people had actually journeyed to an event to see her?
That's completely different, imo"

Fair enough! Unlike many on here, I have absolutely no insight into the thinking of any living member of the Royal Family-let alone the dead ones. My interest is simply in what is repulsively called "the optics".

IsoldeWagner · 18/06/2024 19:58

Indeed. No-one could claim that the late Queen would disapprove of the photo.

AliceOlive · 18/06/2024 20:09

It has over 1.6M likes on IG. I guess someone’s granny likes it.

That's very heartwarming, after some of the stuff on here.

Says it all 😊

Oh?
I just thought it was obvious that the face-exposing hats, see-through umbrellas etc were for public appearances.

My interest is simply in what is repulsively called "the optics".

The only optics I'm particularly interested in are behind a bar but the photo looked fine to me.

BadPennyForeverTurningUp · 18/06/2024 20:41

You beat me to it LaMarschallin

🥂

@LaMarschallin "I just thought it was obvious that the face-exposing hats, see-through umbrellas etc were for public appearances"

Possibly. As I said. No insight into the inner workings of her mind here.

I think the picture is lovely. But I also personally think it has a slightly melancholic look that, if I were them, I would have avoided.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 18/06/2024 20:59

Not just PR experts, but this place is also full of photographic critics. Who knew there was such a wealth of expertise available for free?

BadPennyForeverTurningUp · 18/06/2024 21:04

I suppose that is what an image is supposed to do. To make you think.

I think it just says love. This is the man I love with our family. This is why I am here.

I also think it is hopeful.

Bright skies. Life rolling on regardless - like the sea. And love and unity. Like ‘we can get through anything as long as we stick together as a family’. Just quietly, themselves.

I’m pretty sure that they saw it as a positive image. Otherwise I doubt they would have chosen it. I don’t think the Princess is given to being maudlin

BadPennyForeverTurningUp · 18/06/2024 21:13

She hasn’t given me that impression either smilesy

I suppose it's possible that the Old Queen, with her transparent umbrellas, brimless hats and strong views on visibility might have preferred faces on show. But it does seem a little odd to be calling her as a witness at this stage.....

You're talking about visibility. That's what some of us were disagreeing with.
Not melancholy.

AliceOlive · 18/06/2024 21:31

Old Queen has completely different connotations in my circles so every time I read it I’m confused.

IsoldeWagner · 18/06/2024 21:52

I read a funny anecdote about the Queen Mother, famous for having a staff of gay men.
"Could one of you old Queens bring this old Queen a drink?"

I hope that’s true. 😂

Spot on I would say.

IsoldeWagner · 19/06/2024 07:20

I couldn't agree more, @BadPennyForeverTurningUp and @PrincessMee

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 19/06/2024 08:15

I think it's beautifully and thoughtfully composed, both with their stances and the colour palette. It says to me 'this is my family, close and loving and entwined.'

AliceOlive · 19/06/2024 10:31

It looks to me like the photo captured what matters most to them, for both the subjects and photographer. I love that their backs are to the viewer. They spend so much time forward facing already. Like no matter how much they show and give the public of themselves, they still have something of their own and it holds infinite value. They seem very strong and that strength comes from one another.

PracticallyYesterday · 19/06/2024 12:29

I don't think it is well composed - the horizon is wonky and Charlotte is 'headless' due to the positioning of William's arm.

smilesy · 19/06/2024 12:33

I see William is attending Ascot today alongside the Queen. The King is having a day off as it was said he would on the Wednesday. Who wants to bet that the crazies will have William and Camilla conspiring something together 🙄😂

I am amazed that C and W released another photo after the criticism and abuse received following the release of the Mothers’ Day photo.
Can people not just accept it is a relaxed family photo ?

No, they can't. But, like calling late HM 'the old queen' they forget that it says more about them than the objects of their bile.

AliceOlive · 19/06/2024 12:50

I have to admit it keeps making me chuckle. Think anyone does QE drag?

But you are right. It says nothing about HMQ.
