Distasteful

How so?

JADS · 16/06/2024 13:40

@MrsFinkelstein I like the football nod today from PW.

It's also interesting to see how much dress has changed on the last 40 years. My parents were always very smartly dressed. I'm a right scruff in comparison.

Lovely photos

crumblingschools · 16/06/2024 13:46

It was posted on behalf of the children, in good MN tradition there should be posters asking why Kate did this, as William is not her dad and she should have left it to the children to celebrate their dad. Then we could get complaints why underage age children have access to social media!

AussieGirlAbroad · 16/06/2024 13:48

Turning your back to the camera and posting it for everyone to see. I find it distasteful. No matter who they are.

crumblingschools · 16/06/2024 13:51

If they were facing the camera would it be better @AussieGirlAbroad

TheresMillionsSaidGeoffrey · 16/06/2024 13:52

Looks like Holkham, the sea always is MILES away Smile

Do you find it distasteful, though?

It’s actually quite a well known compositional technique in portraiture called the Rückenfigur technique.

I think it is a lovely photo @IsoldeWagner

ThunderQween · 16/06/2024 13:57

Very rarely see this side of them (their backs)

StripedTomatoes · 16/06/2024 13:59

It looks like the kind of photo that would be used to accompany a family sob story in Take A Break where "names have been changed for legal reasons". 😂

wordler · 16/06/2024 13:59

One of the most famous examples of Rückenfigur is this one:

Perhaps the children chose the picture. There were probably several taken, in different poses. They might have felt this one best expressed what they wanted to say.

Or this might have been the only one where Charlotte's hair wasn't blowing over her face, Louis wasn't picking his nose, George didn't turn his head at the wrong moment, or William wasn't squinting.

Now you’ve said that I can’t unsee it!

CampfireZen · 16/06/2024 14:02

IsoldeWagner · 16/06/2024 13:39

Indeed. Imagine wearing shorts. William and the boys should be in Oxford bags, Charlotte in a crinoline 😳

😆😆

I used to draw people from behind when I was a kid aside couldn't draw faces. If only I'd known there was a term for it!

CurlewKate · 16/06/2024 14:12

Is it the bottoms people are finding distasteful? Seriously?
🤣

Lovely photo

Anyone want to play conspiracy theory bingo?

Louis isn't Williams hence not putting his arm around his dad - he senses that he'll be kicked on the heir list after the divorce.

The photo is symbolic of them talking away and leaving Katherine behind

Charlotte is in rehab and the body double had the wrong colour hair, hence no head

Ah thanks! I got three photos of my kids looking at the sea and framed them together. I love that it's a moment of their own, not posing. DH thinks I'm odd 🤣

crumblingschools · 16/06/2024 14:26

Most of my photos of DC and DH are of their backs taken when we are out for country walks and as they have longer legs and are fitter than me, I am usually lagging behind. I am happy to know it is a compositional technique rather than the fact that I am a dumpy, unfit middle aged mum!

ForFirmBiscuit · 16/06/2024 14:29

I don’t care. Who would care this much if they weren’t royal? Why does anyone care about the royal family? They bring in tourism but apart from that? I just don’t get it

Distasteful is a strong word. You don’t like it maybe but distasteful suggests there is something unpleasant or against common decency in the photos. There are none of theses things

At least no one is wearing budgie smugglers

I think strictly speaking the subject is supposed to be sitting or standing in contemplation not running away from you!

Maybe it's the sight of royal legs 😂

AmelieTaylor · 16/06/2024 14:42

I have a photo of my Dad & my niece, taken like this. It's lovely. It's even more special as it was taken very shortly before he died unexpectedly. It's the last photo of them together.

christ knows what someone finds distasteful about it, they didn't 'turn their back' they're just facing the sea.
