I look at actions. If M & H do something that happens at a time to overshadow the RF, that is an action. It can be reported by a tabloid, the NY Times, SKY News. Everyone will have a different slant but the action will still have taken place. Many posters on here are capable of reading articles, reviewing the source materials, and making a decision; they have critical thinking skills.

If you were here from the outset of the debate and if you see what has happened over the last 7 or so years on MN and beyond, you will know. GC women were/are right, proven so time and time again. This is not the board for that discussion, so I will say no more. My general point about Justine’s short term opinion on hot topics is something I stand by.

I've been here a lot longer than 7 years. IMO MN has turned into a complete echo chamber on trans and gender issues, and irreparably damaged its own reputation in the process, as well as opening itself to more racism, sexism, homophobia and ableism (although there has been some improvement in the response to reports). I no longer admit to using the site IRL because of its reputation offline. But as you say, not the thread to debate that.

StormzyinaTCup · 16/06/2024 13:33

My point being if you start to use tabloids as a source of info you are on the road to damnation other wise you are just cherry picking stories that suit your narrative.

Does that include, for example, The Express?

wordler · 16/06/2024 13:36

It’s definitely happened consistently over the past 4-5 years - too many times to be a coincidence.

I don’t think it’s intended to overshadow the royals I think it’s supposed to be a PR tactic - it started when Meghan was still with Sunshine Sachs so might have been a technique that comes from them.

The idea is that your smaller event/thing will get more views than normal because it gets automatically ’tagged’ or mentioned alongside the bigger event. It also links the two separate things and can boost the brand based on adjacency.

BemusedAmerican · 16/06/2024 13:39

I'm not going to apologize for my aunt, a woman who worked non-stop for 50 years to support her family and volunteered to work with children in her retirement, for reading her brown-paper covered National Enquirer subscription. She also had a NY Times subscription. I don't think her NE reading put her on the road to damnation.

JADS · 16/06/2024 13:51

I'm of the belief you should read widely - broadsheets, tabloids, right leaning, left leaning. Even gossip mags are right sometimes.

No it does not - it was / is a wonderful source of entertaiment with a dose of truth sprinkled in amongst the gossip with the accent on lurid. But if she had preferred to use that as a primary source of info rather than the NYT then a small crack of the door to hell might just have opened. I note that some here go over to CelebBitchy for "research" as I was caught plagiarising a comment form there. Hmm - you are giving them clicks and ad revenue you know which I am sure is not your, no doubt, noble intentions.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/06/2024 13:59

Save your breath, @Geneva12; you can use even reputable links and it'll be either "That doesn't count", "The report's biased" or, if that fails, "you're all racist" and "Why are you so interested anyway?"

And Justine's just as entitled to her view as anyone else, but I doubt HQ object to the clicks - even if it involves leaving up downright filthy threads full of deeply ugly speculation, which with selected people we're asked to avoid

StormzyinaTCup · 16/06/2024 14:15

I do actually remember that and I believe the plagiarised comment was posted but the source omitted. Several posters (including myself) googled said comment and the only media source that came up that contained the comment was Celebitchy. No clicks into site were necessary.

Do you understand how a google search works?

It sounds like you might be hanging out in an echo chamber IRL.

AliceOlive · 16/06/2024 14:30

I asked if mods ever post here along side us and couldn’t get a yes or no answer, so I always keep that in mind.

Just outed my alter ego as well. Oops ! That said I see my biscuit name has been parodied so I'm not the only one. Let her who is without sin cast the first stone.

BlueParrotRedParrot · 16/06/2024 14:50

Sorry, @NameChangeBilly are you admitting to sock puppeting now after other posters were being told off for troll hunting this morning? Or is something being lost in translation?

JudgeJ · 16/06/2024 14:50

ItsNotAShopItsAStore · 15/06/2024 21:51

Yes exactly - it’s rather embarrassing thinking this is proving a point. I could take a picture at a Taylor Swift concert of people either leaving or arriving saying “Wow she has no fans!”

One is reminded of the Trump interpretation of crowds from his Inauguration, apparently the best attended ever, despite all the space.

What was his first press spokesperson called? Sean something. Parodied hilariously by Melissa McCarthy on SNL. Her parody said something about the inauguration crowd along the lines of, " Biggest crowds ever! All the men had erections and all the women were ovulating - both sides!"

We are allowed name changes and if you searched mine there would be no mischief involved. TheFirmBiscuit has been ridiculed in name changes here so I'm not the only one and that was the reason I created it and I don't troll hunt maybe you are reffering to someone else ? I imagine some bird based ridicule will ensue. Fair enough, what is sauce for the goose and all that. I'll duck out now for a while.

Is there a "Yes, I am sock-puppeting" somewhere in that word salad?

LaMarschallin · 16/06/2024 15:26

"PopSockette" would be a nice name.

Posting under two different names on the same thread goes against TG's - but do pop off to do whatever urgent task needs your attention!

PopSockette

I'm glad I was able to think up a new name for you - can't be easy having to keep inventing them yourself.

a hat tip to the "Google Squad" of this parish.

I've never Googled anything to do with posts here (apart from slang terms I didn't understand).
You may wish to save your "hat tips" for someone who requires them.
