Really? How the feckin’ hell does a rabid tabloid know what Chuck thinks about this. Nice chats over video away from the courtiers and listening ears of the royal ‘servants’ is exactly what is needed. I hope they are enjoying the private time emensley!

King Charles is 'not content' with just seeing Harry and Meghan Markle's children, Archie and Lilibet, over video calls, royal sources have revealed.

@BlueParrotRedParrot @So you will understand how difficult it will be for a lay-person and how much of his time it will take up for him to understand what his government is doing in his name"

He's been doing it for years. He has competent assistants. And, crucially, he will have excellent briefing papers so he is unlikely to read everything. We are very skilfully sold the image of the "hard working royals"

So Harry is a liar then, about his dad's hard working nature?

DingDingaling · 13/06/2024 18:36

Yes, @Tizzwazz. It makes me so mad. My Mum has cancer and it is not a picnic for her. I’ve seen so many stories of the cancer card being deployed to evoke a certain type of reaction. As a mature student of media studies I find it abhorrent that they will continue to highlight this aspect of his health to their own ends. I agree with your comment on mental health. I will go one step further and include racism too. A ‘white’ lens can never understand a person of colour’s experience. No wonder some of us don’t talk to white people anymore about it.

Prepare yourself for the deliberate misunderstandings@DingDingaling of your point here. Yes, the establishment newspapers will deploy the cards needed to keep the status quo of privilege. I understand what you mean. Charles, himself, no he is not and I can see that you don’t mean him personally. Sadly, all the sob stories will now pile on in. We can’t believe the truth of someone’s experience of suicidal ideation and the long term effects of that but we will play many a violin for the King’s c. Hypocrites on here are two a penny.

The poster said “I don’t believe in playing the cancer card indefinitely though. We don’t know that information or even if he is still receiving treatment”, which would seem to imply that it is the King and the palace putting out the information. At best the poster expressed themselves badly, at worst they were implying that the King is malingering. They then said that they meant the newspapers were playing the cancer card. How are we supposed to understand this from their original post?

BlueParrotRedParrot · 13/06/2024 18:42

It doesn't stop.

Vespanest · 13/06/2024 18:47

As someone whose had cancer twice and is not white I must have a whole deck of cards

DingDingaling · 13/06/2024 18:51

To be clearer then. I don’t think KC plays that card. I think the media does and will to suit their own agendas. Establishment (the unelected Monarchy) supported through any means necessary in other words. In the same way some individuals use that card for their own nefarious purpose in a highly strategic manner. Further, as it’s also about the clicks, advertising and revenue then headlines will definitely utilise, unscrupulously, the KC’s health for their own purposes. Indefinitely. Murdoch et al. know how to play the game. They did not invent the game, however, and a lot of people won’t just suck it all up in a most credulous manner.

You think "the media" does? (plays the cancer card)
I thought you were a mature student of media studies?
You do know that the British media is not a hive mind and that it's not all controlled by Murdoch?
You do realise that various news outlets are controlled and managed by very different organisations, right?

Do you even understand how offensive the words " cancer card" are?

JamieFraserSporran · 13/06/2024 19:21

Yet @DingDingaling a POC lens is able to comment on everything and it is all valid and true?

CathyorClaire · 13/06/2024 20:03

Another smart move was appointing David Beckham as his ambassador for his foundation.

Is that the same David Beckham who lost a tax avoidance case, wanted a charity to fund a near £7K business class flight for him and allegedly called the Honours Committee 'unappreciative c*nts' when they turned him down for the knighthood he's lusted after since forever?

Yep. Smart move

@BlueParrotRedParrot "So Harry is a liar then, about his dad's hard working nature?"

People can have very different perceptions of "hard work" And this is the first time I have ever seen Harry held up as a credible witness!🤣

I know! He's the very opposite!

CathyorClaire · 13/06/2024 20:16

Doesn't Harold work an hour a week or somesuch?

Anyway. I think it's likely C has plenty of skilled aides who can break down salient points for him.

It seems unlikely he wades through the piles of proposed legislation that don't affect his own interests but he seems to be entirely on the ball with those that do.

Glad you agree Harry's a liar! About time one of you did. I suppose any amount of actual work will look hard to Harry, so I agree with your perspective on perception as far as he is concerned. However, we can have an objective view on hard work too. I would say for a man in his 70s, Charles works pretty hard. Not necessarily physically (although I imagine the visits he does are physically taxing for a man of his age and current health), but the mental load and intellectual requirements are not to be dismissed as nothing imo.

RightStuffLeftHanded · 13/06/2024 20:20

All Good points @LadyPenelopeForever. He is being carefully managed and helped so hopefully he will listen.

KindnessJunkette · 13/06/2024 20:23

Yes, a very smart move @LadyPenelopeForever . Beckham has a huge following and will bring in the cha-ching for the charity coffers. Charities is what the King’s Foundation is all about. 🩷

@BlueParrotRedParrot "Glad you agree Harry's a liar! About time one of you did."

One of who?

BlueParrotRedParrot · 13/06/2024 20:49

A Sussex supporter, @CurlewKate

CurlewKate · 13/06/2024 20:51

@BlueParrotRedParrot "However, we can have an objective view on hard work too. I would say for a man in his 70s, Charles works pretty hard."

You obviously have more information than I do. I can't see any evidence that he works hard. But I can't see any evidence that any of them do, frankly.

Incidentally, I am as sure as I can be that he does not read entire documents from his red box. There will be a carefully prepared one or two pager that will cover everything he needs to know. With suggested questions for him to ask-and often what answers he should expect. Briefing public figures is a real skill. I know-I've done it! Not royal public figures, I admit-but the principle's the same-the stakes are just slightly higher....

Can anyone precis and interpret this AI generated word-salad for me, please? I've read it several times and still no nearer getting wtf it's about. Can you keep it simple, it's been a long day.

TIA.

CurlewKate · 13/06/2024 20:54

@BlueParrotRedParrot "A Sussex supporter"
Ah, I wondered if that was what you meant. Nope, I'm not one of those. I'm a Republican. Happy to knit beside the guillotine for any of them.

BlueParrotRedParrot · 13/06/2024 20:58

Glad to hear it, @CurlewKate . I'm sure you would have the most pointless and useless royals lining up for the chop first, which means small comfort for the Sussex supporters of whom you are not.

CurlewKate · 13/06/2024 20:59

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain "the press has a vested interest in keeping the Royal Family at the front of the public's mind. It generates lots of income for them. And if that means using the King's health as clickbait they will. Because they are unscrupulous and amoral. They will also use it on behalf of the Tories as a distraction technique. While people are caught up in royal dramas, they have less attention to spare for government shenanigans.

I think that's what @DingDingaling was saying.
