This is the Royal photograph I like to discuss the most. Namely - my god imagine if he hadn’t been forced to abdicate (I don’t for a nanosecond think it was for love and there’s evidence to back this up)

Wallis knew where the camera always was too. She had an affair with the best man at her wedding! He was a cuckold for the rest of his life.

banzheid · 08/06/2024 12:35

Not the best man obviously. Edward.

Tizzwazz · 08/06/2024 12:44

Royal Family has an interesting past to say the least.

“They are an integral part of British history and should be opened" to give Britons a better understanding of the attitudes and politics of the royal family during those years, says Matthew Worley, a professor of modern history at the University of Reading. Both the left-leaning Guardian newspaper and the right-of-center Times editorialized for the opening of the archives.

Fueling the debate is a new book, "Go-Betweens for Hitler," by Karina Urbach, a senior research fellow at the Institute of Historical Research, University of London, which asserts that Edward's dealings with Hitler were perhaps treasonous, and that Queen Elizabeth II's parents – King George VI and Queen Elizabeth – remained supportive of Nazi Germany at least until Hitler signed a nonaggression pact with the Soviet Union in August 1939 and invaded Poland in early September, which instigated Britain's declaration of war against Germany.”

I suppose Wallis could have felt she was stuck with Edward - whatever her feelings - when he'd abdicated, apparently for love of her.

That could be a bit of a problem with making big "romantic" gestures for the current love-of-one's-life - you either have to stay together regardless or lose face if feelings change.
And some people can't cope with losing face.
Awful to have to pretend you're living the world's greatest love story if things do change.

“Awful to have to pretend you're living the world's greatest love story if things do change.”

True. Always thought that is Meghan’s biggest mistake.

And in the more recent past, the person with the dodgiest credentials is Harry, possibly closely followed by Meghan in terms of the people they choose to associate with . P Diddy, Chris Bouzy, the 'wanted' man in Nigeria to name but a few, and not even to mention the Nazi uniform jape (ooh...I mentioned it, sorry).

Lots of people were well-disposed towards the Nazi regime before the full truth came out (and that's no excuse). Several Labour MPs - I think Nye Bevan, for eg - were not antagonistic towards the Nazis in the mid-30s, and of course many on the left believed that Uncle Joe was a nice guy who was creating a wonderful paradise in the Soviet Union until Malcolm Muggeridge dared to tell them the truth.

He was DANCING!! What a prick.
Although I can’t figure out why Meghan mustn’t know about this

“Don’t tell Meghan”.

What Willy said to Harry after he assaulted him. The poster is using it to indicate Willy’s secretive nature. Also indicating a possible fear of the American woman too.

Why not, OP? Has the thread not gone the way you had hoped?

I've got a question for you: how do you feel about spreading rumours, long since discredited, about
a) someone who is clearly seriously ill with cancer and has three young children and
b) someone whose wife and father both have cancer and not only has to bear that stress, but also support his children through it AND do a tough job in which his every facial expression or gesture will be pick on by people like you?

I'd love it if you'd spare the time to answer these questions, because they genuinely intrigue me.

Or do you just like to lop a big lump of spite and then clear off? And yet you expect to be taken seriously on this forum?

Marmite27 · 08/06/2024 13:20

I feel like he’s thinking ‘is it proper to remove one’s undercrackers from one’s arse crack in company?’

Thankfully, most American women are perfectly sane and the through that anyone would be afraid of them would never enter their heads 🙄

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 08/06/2024 13:57

Anyone who believes a word of the recollections in Spare is wilfully ignoring all the evidence of Harry’s deliberate subversion of the truth in his narrative. It was ‘his truth’ I.E- a tissue of fibs. All the verifiable stuff has been shown to be completely untrue. Which does make me think that all the unverifiable stories (the private stuff behind closed doors) is also untrue.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 08/06/2024 14:05

Winston Churchill was anti-appeasement and he was very much a political lone voice in the 30s. Nancy Mitford said that at the time they didn't really know what was going on in Germany, especially the camps (and a lot of people were very approving of it, as anti-semitism was also rife). What Hitler was doing was regarded as an internal German affair.

Meghan’s crew are in over drive at the moment. Desperate.

You do know that you are not saying anything that well informed people already know as regards 1930s European politics? You seem to think you are revealing something brilliant and " gotcha". It really isn't.

I remember seeing this photo and thinking " what an ass". I imagine this has been Harry yesterday all dressed up. It's like history repeating itself . The butler's story is rather apt too.

I don't really understand why they have suddenly ramped up the posts and comments. Neither the working nor non working royals are particularly in the news at the moment. Most of the press is concentrating on the election.
