He’s just trying to look mildly ‘not bored AF’ while the women do pleasantries. That’s all. I think this thread is a bit shit-stirry tbh. Bad taste while the woman is convalescing from cancer treatment.

This^

Think it's okay.
My impeccable sources (coughGooglecough) say:
Elizabeth I, known for her patronage of The East India Company founded in 1600 during her reign, turned tea into an exclusive experience shared with her closest confidants.

Edited

Er nope. Tea first arrived in Britain in the 1650s.

This is the Royal photograph I like to discuss the most. Namely - my god imagine if he hadn’t been forced to abdicate (I don’t for a nanosecond think it was for love and there’s evidence to back this up)

I’ve often wondered if the portrait of Richard iii was the first example of photoshopping 🤔. Some say that it was altered to make him look more meanHere it is compared with a facial reconstruction
Digital enhancement was definitely a thing in the 15th century

It's been an enjoyable couple of days - with the D-Day commemorations, and then the wedding yesterday (I do love me a good rummage through wedding photos). William has been centre stage for much of both those events - so clearly the Sewer Squad have been deployed.

So boring.

The "leaks" about the 3rd birthday celebrations were immediately debunked by both Gwyneth Paltrow and Katy Perry. So, it's back to libelling a mother of 3 online it seems.

Happy dayz.

I don't know why he abdicated but I'm so glad that he did. I know that monarchy means we get the next in line but I'm glad that fate had this one leave and Andrew born second.

I know. Attractive as it is to think of Elizabeth I having a kaffeeklatsch with her ladies in waiting, I don't think it happened. Tea only really became popular in Britain after Catherine of Braganza married Charles II in 1661 and brought the habit of tea drinking with her.

kaffeeklatsch

Love that word. An American friend with a German mother taught it to me.
Maybe she could have had a mug of mead? And a Bourbon?
Those surely must be historically accurate...Wink

Explain please re the evidence to back it up not being love.
Intriguing.

cannonballz · 08/06/2024 10:41

I think his face is saying "where did I leave my pen" or maybe "how did my sock get soo twisted" or it could actually be "gosh, what did she just say about spag bog??"

You are right, many interpretations.

You need to be careful with Bourbons. They have a habit of coming to a sticky end. Especially if you dunk them in your tea 😆

There’s sooooo much - I can highly recommend The Traitor King book that documents correspondence from Wallis to a famous SS officer (believed to be her bit on the side) that says she was horrified at David’s abdication and it’s not what she wanted, she didn’t want to be beholden to him. There’s also evidence that Parliament was well aware of his Nazi affiliations and basically said “If you don’t abdicate we will use constitutional powers to boot you out”. However in the abdication announcement it wouldn’t look good to say “I’m mates with Nazis” so he uses his love for a divorcee s an excuse. I’m sure it was a positive outcomes that he could marry Wallis but so much of David’s behaviour following shows he did desperately want to be King and was devastated to have lost his crown (figuratively speaking)

Ill try and find a website I read a while ago about it it’s very interesting if you’re interested in Royal history

CoffeeCantata · 08/06/2024 11:05

OMG, OP!

You've spent your whole life wondering about THAT photograph, and I've just spent a couple of minutes being stunned by the photo upthread of the Duchess of Windsor. (Do you know who she was, btw?)

Is it just me, OP, or does she look a little TOO like St Meghan for comfort?

I've never seen the resemblance before, but it's really struck me with that pic.

Wow!

MrsSkylerWhite · 08/06/2024 11:08

Great post! Wallis was always in love with her American second husband. She never intended to marry David, but felt she couldn't abandon him after he abdicated for her.

Also, if you go on Youtube and search "Andrew Lownie, The Traitor King" you will find a lot of videos of him talking about his book at various literary festivals etc. He's one half of the always interesting "The Scandal Mongers" podcast that covers all manner of British scandals touching the establishment. He's also publishing an unflattering book on Prince Andrew shortly, and is by no means a fan of royalty, for anyone who thinks he may be biased. He's actually lost a lot of money and work as a result of delving into these matters.
