Why would the PM attend a random duke’s wedding unless he was a personal friend?

KatyaKabanova · 08/06/2024 14:34

No idea!

Passiflora2 · 08/06/2024 14:47

The King and Camilla were attending another event , can’t remember what.

I was hoping for a big royal turn out, was expecting to see the Tindalls, Beatrice and Edo at the very least, but we only got William and Eugenie, no Jack that I could see either, the King and Queen were rumoured to be invited but didn’t go so it all looked a bit flat to me. Nice dress, awful shoes and the bridesmaids shoes were hideous, looked like old school plimsolls from a distance, overall I was underwhelmed considering it was billed as the wedding of the year.

A bit flat ? 😂😂😂😂

ALovelyCupOfNameChange · 08/06/2024 14:58

Those flowers are stunning

Yes I was a bit disappointed with it in general after the huge build up of it as the society wedding of the year, I was expecting to see a flurry of royals, not just William and Eugenie, not sure why you find that so highly amusing.

AnnieSF · 08/06/2024 15:27

It's because I suspect you are confusing class and simple elegance with flamboyance and show.

Sasqwatch · 08/06/2024 15:29

Loved the shoes 💙💙

She looks very beautiful and the dress and veil are gorgeous but the number she did on her poor maid of honour! Frumpy length, fabric, necline and shoes, dear lord!

That was the designer…

AnnieSF · 08/06/2024 15:50

How many times ?????

MerryChristmasToYou · 08/06/2024 15:52

@BigWillyLittleTodger , they are nobility. They don't need to be showy.

Many, many, many times....

Random duke 😂😂😂you mean the biggest landowner in London if not the Uk and one of the richest billionaires in the UK? Personal friend with the King and Prince William.

he owns most of Central London including Mayfair and Westminster, hardly a random duke.

and rich and influential people don’t just invite personal friends to their weddings!

LaMarschallin · 08/06/2024 16:36

True.
They invite family from both sides too.

I would have thought being rich and influential would mean that you could only invite personal friends if you so wish. Not sure what Rishi’s presence would contribute to their general well being. It would be a bit strange to invite him just because he is PM. It’s not like when senior Royals, who interact with the government, get married. Their weddings are more by necessity a state occasion

I think she looks lovely - and look how the Duke is gazing at her.

ThePoshUns · 08/06/2024 17:06

They don't need to invite Rishi. They have far more power and influence than he does.

I’m well aware of who he is but as far as I know, politicians don’t usually attend the weddings of dukes unless they’re friends with them. Not even royal ones beyond those in direct line for the throne. David Cameron attended William’s but I don’t recall Theresa May at Harry’s or Eugenie’s.

What a beautiful woman.

The veil was gorgeous.

The flowers superb .

Natural make up

But

Hair far too severe.
Loved the veil, beautiful didn't like the dress
Bridesmaids' dresses awful
Shoes horrific

MerryChristmasToYou · 08/06/2024 18:54

So many beautiful outfits worn by the guests.
Loved Eugenie's shoes and hat.

Eugenie is of zero importance, you can’t compare her to one of the richest men in Britain. RF are different all together and have protocols, this wasn’t a royal wedding.

rich people also need government and politicians on their side especially when they are land and property owners. I am sure they are not interested in Rishi who will be out of Nr 10 in a month!

SuuzeeeQ · 08/06/2024 08:03

It’s a family tiara (Grosvenor family)

It's been worn by all new Duchesses on their wedding day since 1906

LaMarschallin · 08/06/2024 19:15

I doubt they are interested in him personally unless he was a particular friend.
Perhaps - since, according to you, they would need/want to invite the PM to curry favour - they should have just sent an invite to:
To Whom it May Concern
10, Downing Street

Tbh, I don't think they need to invite people they don't know to attempt to advance their interests.
Sounds like it was a wedding with primarily friends and family on both sides invited.

Sandwichgen · 08/06/2024 19:43

I do t think so Edith - the present Duke’s mum wore the Bagration tiara iirc

(Russian royal lineage)
