MrsFinkelstein

So offensive to his ex-girlfriends. All of whom were very pretty. Some, like Cressida Bonas are genuinely drop dead gorgeous models.

I thought exactly that.
He's not the most gallant gentleman, is he?

Thedom · 01/06/2024 12:49

Considering we now know how jealous she is of Catherine, I think her dad wouldn't have cut the mustard in comparison to the handsome and really decent Michael Middleton, so she trumped that by asking the King to walk her down the aisle. Manipulative again, a photo opportunity for prosperity.

DelectableMe · 01/06/2024 12:39

This was a family that had met every crowned head, world leader and person of achievement over many decades.
I hardly think they would be "impressed" by Meghan Markle.

Well no, but with his limitations Harry was certainly impressed and clearly he feels that's reason enough for everyone else to be

Except it isn't

Vespanest · 01/06/2024 12:54

It was by Oprah that the shit we do really need a way to make a living happened. They so need to find a new way to make millions to not only afford the lifestyle but invest. But as this thread and opinions shows they managed in thrashing the royals to thrash themselves as well. I still do not see what Thomas did so wrong in comparison to Harry.

I didn’t think of that…

Me neither vespa

Harry beats Thomas by a country mile.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 01/06/2024 13:03

Although I also love this bit:

"I remember my family first meeting her and being incredibly impressed", he says. "Some of them didn't quite know what to do with themselves".

The Royal Family didn't know what to do with themselves in the fabulous presence of Meghan?
They meet actresses every other day.

And heads of state. And very distinguished people. If there's one thing the RF has, it's self-possession.

I actually see this as more about Harry's projection of how HE was feeling that this fabulous woman had agreed to go out with him and meet his family. In fact, I think a deep insecurity is at the bottom of a lot of things like his court cases - the world needs to recognise his/their wonderfulness and what better way than to throw your weight around?

Like the people who always demand ' Do you know who I AM?'

MummyJ12 · 01/06/2024 13:09

Harry must’ve absolutely bigged himself up a little too much. Meghan came back from the Botswana trip, telling her agent that she and Harry were going to ‘change the world’. What had Harry said to her? Never mind illusions of grandeur, delusions of power more like!

Also, shame on Harry for having such negative opinions on anyone’s weight when it was well known that his mum battled with an eating disorder. Absolute muppet.

I'm really beginning to wonder what he told her about the RF ad his role in it and what he could do. I also wonder if he thought deep down that this was a fling with a gorgeous woman that wouldn't go anywhere so he could big himself up somewhat, then she'd go back to Canada when it was over, no damage done except a nice ego boost for him.

Perhaps he should have suggested that his family should curtsey to her:

"Your Meghggjesty!" <spreading arms out wide>

It's only what she deserved, after all. Being a gorgeous actress on the telly and all.

(Tbh, I'd rather curtsey to Dame Judi. She can really act)

Here's a question for the thread - when did we all start suspecting they were liars? I liked Meghan just fine at first, I think it was when all the drama started with them releasing statements about being half in, half out which then hadn't been agreed with the palace which made it obvious one or more parties was trying to manipulate things. Then the Oprah interview was my big 'wtf?' moment.

The Oprah interview.

Until it aired, I was convinced it would be about the difficulties in being married to someone from another culture /lifestyle and that the media was creating fear for the sake of it. My parents are different races and nationalities which is probably why I assumed that.

Before the interview I thought that some media outlets had it in for Meghan (the avocado story is beyond ridiculous) but the trolling was on par with what other women who joined the family experienced. Despite what they said in the OW interview, I felt that the media used the fact that she was American and an actress as an angle to attack her more than the bi-racial side but that might be the “stories” that reached me. (Did anyone in the UK ever say biracial before Meghan?)

Had they gone to Canada and lived a fresh new life like the former Princess Mako then I would be defending them and their right to privacy but Harry in particular is clearly having a massive sulk about not getting his own way which is something that is reasonable to ridicule him for.

Not quite the right optics, having Thomas Markle walk her down the aisle.

I strongly suspect that not only did they never want him at the wedding (but gave the right optics by leaking various details concerning him) but I
that they were worried he’d divulge a few facts/home truths to guests that the Sussexes prefer hidden forever.
I do wonder if Doria is kept on board so they can control her too.
Ditto why no one else was invited from the family.
I think there’s probably a few skeletons in her cupboard that she’s anxious to keep locked up or Harry might see a completely different side to her.

DelectableMe · 01/06/2024 12:29

Not quite the right optics, having Thomas Markle walk her down the aisle.

I think it’s all about her family not looking “the right way”, apart from Doria. They are not front page glamorous enough, and not wealthy or important enough to overlook something as shallow as “looking wrong” being important iyswim. So she curated them out of the wedding photos by not inviting them at all 😆

Well. I first had doubts at the engagement interview. She seemed overly dominant , self opinionated and assertive- then I felt a bit ashamed of myself for thinking that.

Next was the Heads Together event. She has a beautiful voice and speaks with confidence and clarity. But again she over dominated - and when one actually tries to unpick what she says, it makes little sense, as a PP has pointed out.

She has a pleasant sounding voice but likes the sound of it far too much.

Also offensive to Catherine who is every bit as beautiful as Meghan. But apparently Meghan floored them in a way no other can 😂

Re Thomas Markle - he’s clearly a sandwich short of a picnic, and I don’t blame her for being embarrassed by him. But I also suspect it’s mainly looks based. 73 isn’t elderly - if he’d been a debonair George Clooney handsome type and didn’t flow the ‘ugly American’ loud stereotype, I reckon he’d have been there

I think it’s huge amounts of wishful thinking turned ‘fact’.

There’s a part in spare about when W&K came to dinner at their house to meet Meghan and he claims they were in awe of her and too bashful to admit they were superfans of Suits.

These are people who are friends with the Beckham’s, not a pair of nobodies.

Also I find it unlikely given that Suits was basically unheard of in the U.K. at that time.

Ah, yes. There was the worry that they might "hound" her for her autograph.
Because that's how famous royalty reacts when meeting a not very well known television actress. You can see it in reception lines (when people queue up to meet the royals). King Charles scrabbles to get his notebook out so that someone from Eastenders can sign it.

Indeed. Apparently they were "religious" viewers.
So, does that mean they gave it up for Lent?

MummyJ12 · 01/06/2024 16:26

The Prince and Princess of Wales, who hosted the Obamas with such grace and dignity, were in awe and bashful of Meghan 😂
Was Spare nominated in the comedy section of those book awards?!

Then the Oprah interview was my big 'wtf?' moment.

Some months before “Megxit” and the launch of Sussex Royal, I read various blind gossip/ rumours alluding to Meghan grifting off her role in the royal family and secretly profiting. (I am not going to repeat the specific rumours but some are partially in the public domain such as keeping freebies is referred to in Spare which isn’t allowed for RF, and seeing a dress with tags hanging off.) But all of that did make me regard her with a bit more cynicism and I found her to be very self-centred, superficial and dismissive of tradition. Since she left the RF and we hear more and more from her directly (rather than via journalists who might add their own bias), it supports my opinion that she is driven by greed and attention. Many further rumours/ gossip appear to be consistent with this narrative (although of course it’s likely that stories have been exaggerated or possibly made up - where throwing in a completely outlandish story discredits the ones that are mostly true).

I believe the alternative narrative that she is a victim and everyone else is out to get her doesn’t stack up. It doesn’t explain the lies or conflicting stories. In my opinion anyway.

MummyJ12 · 01/06/2024 16:36

Even Biden’s administration in the visa debacle, have said that Spare may not be fully truthful and ‘embellished to sell books’ the lawyers have argued.

YaMuvva · 01/06/2024 17:02

I’m currently sunbathing after a stint in thr hot tub (we are a classy bunch in the YaHouse, I bet W&K would be in AWE of us) but when I come back inside I’m gonna play more Random Spare Sprites because if nothing else I’ve found it highly amusing.
