Tatler has a new portrait, allegedly of the Princess of Wales, on its cover. I know it's been a while but I'm pretty sure most of us remember what she looks like.

She was just speculating (sensibly, really) that if Kate is not out and about before school breaks up (which for the Wales children will presumably be just over a month away now) then there’s not much impetus for her to resume public facing duties until the schools go back.

I can see the sense in that argument. I’d also been idly considering the huge amount of attention that Kate will inevitably get when she does attend something publicly, and whether that would influence her choices. So, for example, the Duke of Westminster’s wedding - highly unlikely. Trooping the Colour? More likely, especially if the whole family is there, but Charles may want the focus to be on him? (I have no idea of the family dynamic and I’m not throwing shade at Charles - just pondering that in many families that would be a consideration).

Normally you’d expect William and Kate to take the family to see Team GB compete at the Olympics since it’s in Paris - I wonder it that’s a possibility?

I wonder whether she might go to Wimbledon. It's sitting down, she can take breaks from the Royal box and the camera would be focused on the players. I think Trooping might be too much with the carriage ride, plus I think it's her regiment trooping this year so she would be expected to take a more central part. She might go to the Colonel's review the week before which is less public and tiring.

Whatever happens I really hope they keep centering her health in all decisions.

I should think she'll choose a low key engagement for her return to public life, and especially one where her presence doesn't distract attention from the people she's come to see. Maybe something at Sandringham, or even up near Balmoral?

There's bound to be a lot of scrutiny of her appearance - has she lost weight/put on weight, and so on.

Yes - I would have thought something like an embargoed visit to the local baby bank or similar that only gets announced after it took place - but something like that could be seen as political and could only now take place in July, if was was even on the cards (it may not be, of course, I’m by no means saying we should expect to see her any time soon - that entirely her decision when she is ready to return to public facing engagements of course).

I think it will be a long time before we see Catherine on active duty, the longer the better in my book if that’s what it takes for her to be physically and mentally recovered from what she’s had to go through.

Yes, and maybe not staying too long. According to The Mail they have received tend of thousands of letters expressing concern and support, I hope that it encourages them both to know that people are behind them.

I think all the speculation shows just how important the Princess of Wales is within the RF. Her presence is very much missed.
