Part 5 of (mostly ๐Ÿ˜‚) drama-free and positive threads, delving into all things Meghan and Harry. Whether itโ€™s the causes they support, their business initiatives, or Meghanโ€™s fashion choices (Harryโ€™s too, on occasion ๐Ÿ˜‰), thereโ€™s plenty to discuss. Just a pro-tip - that there may be use of MLE terms and discussions of dupes - you might want to exit stage left if these things offend. Hat tip to @queentim for the original inspiration.

At first, the easy assumption was that Amal, 40, and Meghan, 37, were the connectors. Two well-heeled women with impressive pedigrees (Amal earned an undergraduate degree from Oxford before hopping across the pond for law school at New York University while Meghan double-majored in theater and international studies at Northwestern University, working as an intern at the U.S. Embassy in Argentina before committing herself to acting) and a passion for human rights who just happen to have their impossible perfect manes shorn by the same stylist? Sure, that checks out.

But while the two women have become quite close in the past few years, it turns out they can thank their husbands for that bond, not their shared hair pro Miguel Martin Perez.

Having floated through the same philanthropic circles for years (well before he and Amal created the Clooney Foundation For Justice, George co-founded Not On Our Watch in an attempt to curb the genocide in Sudan) the actor and the Sentebale co-founder, 33, connected at a private charity function in the UK, a palace source reveals to E! News: "They have been friends for more than two years."

That photo is clearly photoshopped. ๐Ÿคฃ

Hmm not really feeling this dress - honestly I feel like there is way too much going on with it. The filigree is lovely but not feeling dress - itโ€™s too bulky and bitty for my taste.

Yes, me neither to be honest. I don't really like the cut of the bust. But i like the scarf detail, and the print looks nice on her

Yes indeed. Thank goodness!

Amal and George wonโ€™t be stopping the work what they do any time soon, Iโ€™m sure despite Biscuitโ€™s fervent desire.

๐Ÿ˜‚ That was funny

My last knockings for what was just a throwaway jocular remark about the Clooneys and the Suxesses.

Because at this point the women have long since passed the we're friends simply because our husbands are friends stage. An insider reveals to E! News the pair have formed their own deep connection in the two years since Meghan started dating Harry: "Amal is like a confidante to Meghan."

AliceOlive · 12/05/2024 19:42

It is funny to me also!

I donโ€™t think they actually spend time together. George and Amal said they didnโ€™t even know them when they were invited to the wedding that Meghan claimed later was not really a wedding.

Raise your hand if you believe the insider was someone Amal told to share this โ€œinfoโ€.

I suspect sheโ€™s kind to Meghan. Will believe they are truly friends when Amal posts a basket of Meghanโ€™s lemons and jam online.

Of course it may transpire that the Clooney's are actually shallow fame junkies keen to rubberneck a historic Royal event and not the plaster saints some would have them be. Surely not - that would be so Harry & Meghan !

Harry & Meghan went to Ilupeju Junior Grammar School Lagos for a Giants Of Africa basketball exhibition game. Love that Meghan is wearing the Aso-Oke gift from Saturday.

Up Ilupeju! I'm neck of the woods!

skullbabe · 12/05/2024 19:49

Love it!

Harry should ask his bestie George if he can get a piece of the Nespresso gig - maybe even bring out a commerative Royal blend.

It's a rich, robust blend with a hint of citrus, inspired by the flavours of my new home, and a nod to my mate, George. He always knows how to make a good thing even better.

Nah, it was this line, among others about H&M enjoying the Clooneyโ€™s hospitality in that 6 year old article that gives away the real draw:

โ€œLike, hey, wanna borrow my private jet and spend the weekend at my waterfront Italian villa close.โ€

But you know, as you think a role in Suits is akin to what Amal has accomplished so far in her life, we wonโ€™t have much in common.

AliceOlive · 12/05/2024 19:53

Iโ€™m laughing that you are insulting people for simply not being close to Meghan and Harry. Not everyone has to be close.

skullbabe · 12/05/2024 19:57

Right travel predictions (c'mon if the DM can have a detailed mapping out of all possible ways to Nigeria for H&M - I'm sure we can have a go.)

Do you think they will do a UK layover again ๐Ÿ˜‚? Can you imagine?

I'm sorry but that picture leaves a bad taste to me .
In my own opinion, too white saviour !

This. Horrid picture. Absolutely what comic relief used to do. Thankfully they have realised how inappropriate it is and have stopped doing it.

That yellow is such a lovely colour on Meghan. Good choice of dress today. Floaty and good for a hot climate. The aso oke goes wonderfully with it. Is there a particular way you're meant to wear that, does anyone know? And is it similar to the wrap she wore as a skirt earlier today?

Aso oke (higher cloth) is traditionally worn by women as iron (wrapper), buna (top), gele (head tie), iborun (over the shoulder) and ipele short piece around the hip.

Traditional rulers, celebrants eg bride, mother of the bride, royalty, celebrants of landmark birthdays etc will wear this complete set.

More commonly, women will wear the head tie and iborun over the shoulder.

Different areas have patterns and colours perculiar to them.

It's hand woven, can be made from silk, wool or cotton.
Traditionally very heavy but lighter version are alao available.

It's beautiful and connotes respect, care, intentionally and purpose.

Creepy and weird as hell that the DF do this.

I don't think there are many direct flights between Africa and North America though, so likely a stopover somewhere in Europe, and then back to America for them

I have plans to visit a friend in Egypt next year, so hopefully if I have to have a stopover, it's somewhere cool I've never been to!

ETA: the whinging and crying over a stop in the UK has been hysterical honestly

The Clooneys are closely connected to King Charles through The Kingโ€™s Trust (formerly The Princes Trust) and the Amal Clooney Award launched by the Canadian Kingโ€™s Trust in 2020. I donโ€™t think they need to be afraid of H&M stealing their thunder any time soon. A bit ironic that certain posters are telling off other posters for pitting women against each other, while the poster who started the negative comparison by telling them to retire calls this accomplished pair โ€œplaster saintsโ€.

It was a joke not meant to be taken seriously and I did say a well earned retirement and therefore a nod to their sterling efforts on the world stage. Is irony dead ? And besides the OP did ask for this thread to be upbeat and positive - there's plenty of room on other thread for knife sharpening and vitriol and why I steer well clear of it - respecting other's boundaries.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 12/05/2024 20:15

And Meghan in Suits. An average of 3 minutes of screen time an episode I believe, and wasnโ€™t playing a strong enough character to survive her onscreen boyfriend being written out. Please. This was not the big time. And whoever compared it to ER, an international phenomenon in TV that was renowned for its unprecedented storylines and innovative filming (including episodes Clooney came back to direct to highlight the civil war in Sudan) - you are comparing a minor cable soap opera with TV legend.

I feel sure Diana would approve of the life that Harry is carving out for himself and and this visit chimes with one she did many decades earlier to the same Commonwealth country.

I couldn't agree more. She would be so proud of Harry defending his wife and the visits and difference they are making.

You started the vitriol, dear. All your posts are full of it.
