Couldn't resist opening it with this from the last thread 😁

Bouzy is still trying to stir things up on TwiX.

It's a joke Chris - because there's only 3 names on the list!

You can bet the SS would have made their own list if it had been all ultra A-list celebs posting their photos of their jars.

Just a few to spark the interest (which they got, in spades) and then over time some apparently random comments from other recipients. And always that bit of wondering "who else?" "who got #1?"

What kind of 'interest' though? She is famous and very divisive, so the interest is pretty much guaranteed. That doesn't mean it's the right kind of interest. I don't think this stunt has made people curious about the products and interested in buying them, if they ever appear. As far as any of us can see, it's just plain old strawberry jam, no different to what we could buy in Tesco's along with the spuds and low fat milk. No information about how the strawberries come from lovingly tended organic fields in California. Nothing at all. Just jars of a very banal product with a poorly attached label.

And as I've said, it's obvious that ARO is nowhere near ready to do business. They haven't even secured the trademark yet. Who 'launches' a business which won't be in a position to trade for months? I've never heard of such a thing.

They were obviously trying to divert attention from Catherine onto themselves. So predictable.

BemusedAmerican · 20/04/2024 23:37

People on reddit were scanning Google Earth photos of the Montecito estate and reporting no strawberry fields. Apparently it would take a lot of berries and growing space to produce 50 jars of jam.

Do they claim the jam is made on site? i assumed its made by a third party, to be flogged for profit by their Majesties from Montecino.

I initially didn't think that but this seems so badly put together, I wonder if it was a last minute thing.

Someone commented on another thread, probably ARO thread 3 that everything was filed in the days and weeks leading up to the Diana Award ceremony.

BemusedAmerican · 21/04/2024 13:12

Possibly she has a strawberry plant and threw in a few of her own berries? 😁

wordler · 21/04/2024 13:16

Where I live on the East coast - not known for its great grape growing weather the local winemakers are allowed to claim they are selling ‘local’ wines if they blend a few locally grown grapes in with a load of imported ones from California. They don’t have to mention the ‘blend’ as long as they have a certain percentage of local grapes.

So it’s possibly something similar with the strawberries.

Yes I think you're right! In the UK they sell things from XYZ farm which apparently doesn't necessarily exist; or Best British pie - yet it has only a small amount that's British the rest can be from anywhere

I suspect they popped a few strawberries from the garden into the industrial mixer 😆

Yes, from my jam-making attempts I'd agree - it takes a lot of fruit which of course reduces in bulk as the water evaporates.
I wonder - do they own land elsewhere where these amazing strawberries, tended by angels, no doubt, are growing? A small garden strawberry patch wouldn't yield more than a jar or two.

smilesy · 21/04/2024 13:49

How amusing that they feel the need to dis the King’s jam which is outselling theirs: “yes but ours is more home made and authentic”. Fifty jars of handmade jam from their own strawberries. Really? 1 kg of strawberries only makes 3-4 jars. So at least 12.5 kg of strawberries needed. And to do that in the quantities needed to be commercially viable, something will have to give. Stretching credulity a bit yet again

BoohooWoohoo · 21/04/2024 13:57

I suspect that the poster who explained about East coast wine called local if it has just a bit of local grapes is onto something and it’s not 100% her strawberries in each jar.

Bouzy is being ridiculous - of course people were going to try and work out which 50 people received a jar. Meghan’s friendships (and fallouts) is a topic that often comes up with regards to her and this is a way to see if intervention theories about this angle are accurate or not.

And all seem like rich kid vanity projects. Though it is fun to visit them and I do love Dave Matthew’s Blenheim.

thecatsthecats · 21/04/2024 15:34

It would fit a lot more with their brand to team up with some project to create one nice product on the "buy a pair, donate a pair" model Toms use.

Pick a commonplace product that everyone needs, add a bit of style to it. Get a few famous people wearing them. Everyone gets a bit of kudos.

It’s also a great way to lower your property taxes in our county as you can claim agricultural use and get a massive discount.

Because the jam was only a 'gift' she can say pretty much whatever she likes.

However, if it is ever going to be sold commercially, it will be subject to legislation, including, I expect, inspection of the land where the fruit is grown.

I also agree with other posters that even if it is sold commercially, only a small proportion of the fruit would need to actually come from her estate. Not that I'd consider that a selling point, though I guess some might.

I’m guessing American laws are probably much more lax than those here or in Europe generally. I might be wrong though. Food standards don’t appear to be nearly as strict.

I agree , it’s just the reaction to the King’s jam selling well that amused me. The source emphasising that the jam was made with produce from their actual garden, so therefore it must be superior to the King’s produce so yah boo sucks 😆

1DoesNotSimplyWalkIntoMordor · 21/04/2024 18:32

All this talk of jam and the first thing that came to my mind was

Pump up the jam (technotronic 1989)
Been singing it for an hour or so.

Anyway, Provincial Sycamore Prairie is offering up a number of jars of pickled walnuts

Tlolljs · 21/04/2024 18:39

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again I like marmalade.

Solgrass · 21/04/2024 18:41

Anybody like Roses Lime and lemon marmalade….or is that naff? I love the stuff. Don’t want to give Meghan any ideas though…..
