What next? What did the launch aim to achieve? Did it get the desired result?

These type of threads aren't her target audience.
Why should she take advice from a place of faux concern?

I'm still curious to know who exactly her 'target audience' are?

Who is going to seek out strawberry jam from an online business which can't decide if it's going for California chic or pseudo English country garden?

Sageyboots · 18/04/2024 15:44

if this was a task on the apprentice I imagine they would say the name is too wordy, the logo is both fussy and bland, and strawberry jam is a boring and not particularly aspirational product.

I think it’s the pseudo royalness that’s part of the problem, she would be better to go fresh, Californian and use her own name. “The Duchess of….” sounds to my ear like the name of a victorian dowager or a vintage steam engine.

I think Meghan could play to her strengths in terms of fashion/lifestyle, maybe curating a collection/working with small designers to sell clothes, accessories, bags, beach towels/wraps candles/fragrance etc, maybe an off the beach, through the lemon groves and into an exclusive bar type of vibe. People are incredibly interested in what she wears - and I bet she doesn’t even eat jam.

I agree.

She should have gone for a fashion or cosmetics tie in. Given the past 4 years, I'm not at all certain it would be a success, but it would certainly be a better fit than some tired lifestyle brand. That just seems so dated and last decade, and the market is saturated.

Geebray · 18/04/2024 17:08

Actually I think I know what she's doing. Given that being an international philanthropist has failed, being a podcast producer has failed, and producing content for Netflix - apart from a documentary about themselves - has failed, she desperately has to remake her own brand. Get some credibility. This is not about jam, it's about Meghan trying to be someone new. Again.

So now she's Martha Paltrow, or something. This is her pivot.

GrouchyKiwi · 18/04/2024 16:58

In NZ - so I don't know if it's true here too - jam has bits in and jelly doesn't - so you strain it to take out all the fruit pulp.

Certainly I've made what I call jelly by putting the boiled fruit and sugar mixture into a suspended jelly bag and letting the juice drip through.
No squeezing, of course, or it goes cloudy.
I once managed to drop the full jelly bag when making raspberry and blackcurrant jelly - it exploded and the kitchen looked like an abattoir Shock

I call the wobbly pudding set with gelatin "jelly" too.

Well this has given me a jolly good laugh.

ARO thread 2
Mylovelygreendress · 18/04/2024 17:20

I volunteer in our local Foodbank and this afternoon the manager of a local shop handed in a large box of customer donations which I sorted out . There were a couple of jars of jam and it occurred to me that a much better and more philanthropic idea would have been for Meghan to present a large selection of ARO products ( assuming there’s more than strawberry jam) to a local foodbank rather than to people who probably never allow a spoonful of sugar to pass their lips !

She wouldn't want the poors sullying up her exclusive high end jam.

And I don't think there are more products at the moment. The jam clearly wasn't suitable for retail as there was no nutrition or allergy information on the label, as I'm assuming is a legal requirement in California. That's fine for a 'gift', even if the recipient hasn't let anything containing sugar pass their lips since the last century, but not for commercial purposes.

I suspect ARO is nowhere near ready to do business.

I agree. I think the noise about "What was the point of that?" that came after the Princess Diana Awards night of the announcement finally got through to Meghan, and she had to produce something.

@ShamedBySiri this made my day! 😂

Did she only gift her jam to women?

Actually we don't know. Only women have publicised it. Two, I think.

Here you go MrsLeon.

Our monthly farmers market is great. That is where I came across it first.

That looks delicious, I'm going to check our local farmer's market.

Who knows? Why would it matter whether she did or not? 😕

Geebray · 18/04/2024 18:01

I'm surprised more recipients aren't showing off the jam. At Meghan's wedding people were all over social media with posts about it.

I wonder if Oprah got some jam? And George and Amal? 🤔

MaturingCheeseball · 18/04/2024 18:04

Yes, Geebray, I wondered the same. I assume the idea was that the recipients all did Instajam (!) posts but out of 50 at the moment it’s a dismal hit rate.

It doesn't really sit with feminist principles now does it?

Instajam 😆

There seem to be about six people who have posted so far. And Meghan seems to have sent out the jam nestled in lemons in a vase to each one.

Making sure they look nice for the 'jam!

I doubt if number 50 will post !
Wonder if Bouzy received one ?

Well the labels are falling off, so they can always pretend they’ve lost it 😆

That’s actually a genius idea and has inspired me to give to the charity. Hopefully this stunt helps raise some funds for the Trussell Trust 🥰
