To continue the discussion...

What next? What did the launch aim to achieve? Did it get the desired result?

Since when was selling jam someone else's idea?!
Anyone can lol
Calligraphy?
Random.

Umm… Duchy ?

FlouncetteLaFroth · 18/04/2024 15:47

I think Meghan could play to her strengths in terms of fashion/lifestyle, maybe curating a collection/working with small designers to sell clothes, accessories, bags, beach towels/wraps candles/fragrance etc, maybe an off the beach, through the lemon groves and into an exclusive bar type of vibe. People are incredibly interested in what she wears - and I bet she doesn’t even eat jam.

This.

Umm… Duchy ?

Duchy don't own the rights to jam.
Somebody better go tell Hartleys.

Abouttimeforanamechange · 18/04/2024 15:54

Calligraphy?
Random.

Calligraphy at one time was a hobby or interest of Meghan's.

Ah Ok.
Maybe she wants to do the jam though.
Not sure why people are like "what's she doing jam for, why isn't she doing calligraphy instead?"
Um... because she wants to?

Geebray · 18/04/2024 16:01

So how many influencers dear dear friends of Meghan actually put the jam on their Insta? I've seen two?

I mean imagine sending jam to a load of women who haven't eaten carbs for a decade 😆

Because maybe she could stop copying others ideas.

I beg to differ,

first impressions are very important , and sadly
there is nothing promising in what we’ve seen so far, it looks like something you win at the village fete .

I really thought the overall product would reflect Meghan’s style , neat and simple lines , instead it looked unfinished .

sending it out to friends on very restrictive diets or Ozempic and posting the products on SM is not very helpful either , do any of these celebs eat bread and sugar? Delfina’s sad looking display looks so out of place next to her green juice .

Lastly MN is not X , there are lots of professionals on here who have given great advice across all boards , the kind of advice and consultations that costs hundreds per hour for absolutely no charge.
if I were on Meghan’s ARO’s team I’d jot down all criticisms and take them into consideration .
instead of repeating the oh they are just jealous and racist line.

With respect, given the vitriol aimed at her on here, I think Mumsnet would be one of the very last places that Meghan or any of her team would look to for advice!

Exactly, I bet she doesn't give a shit what people on MN think 😁

GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight · 18/04/2024 16:08

These type of threads aren't her target audience.
Why should she take advice from a place of faux concern?

StormzyinaTCup · 18/04/2024 16:18

Scones and crumpets are regularly available in supermarkets, Trader Joe's, cafes, etc. Some cafes will give you the odd small package of jam or jelly with the scones but usually you get them dry.

@BemusedAmerican I did a quick google on crumpets/scones/US availability just before you posted and I came across this:

https://thecrumpetshop.com/

If I lived in Seattle I’d be frequenting this place for sure 😋

You are right we are not her target audience , can you imagine a Brit ordering American made jam?
that’s laughable , specially when the finest strawberries are home grown .

garlicandsapphires · 18/04/2024 16:27

Sageyboots · 18/04/2024 15:44

if this was a task on the apprentice I imagine they would say the name is too wordy, the logo is both fussy and bland, and strawberry jam is a boring and not particularly aspirational product.

I think it’s the pseudo royalness that’s part of the problem, she would be better to go fresh, Californian and use her own name. “The Duchess of….” sounds to my ear like the name of a victorian dowager or a vintage steam engine.

That work wear project she was involved with seemed very her/ very on brand.
Smart Works. What a great idea, combining charity, good works and fashion.
Why can't she do something like that?

This jam thing seems so bizarre it's frankly funny!

Geebray · 18/04/2024 16:30

Yes, of all the things to sell in Montecito, to the socialites and actresses and wannabes who shun carbs or are on Ozempic, jam ain't it!

MrsLeonFarrell · 18/04/2024 16:34

What is apple butter? I've never heard of it, can someone explain.

Kind of like an apple jam/ stewed apples.

Thanks. Not at all what I was picturing then, I was thinking of something like peanut butter in consistency.

It is like a spiced caramelised apple sauce.

I do a non spiced version for pulled pork.

Looks easy to make. If you google it it’s just basically stewed apple with spices and or a bit of vinegar 🤷‍♀️

AliceOlive · 18/04/2024 16:44

It’s a spread really. Somewhere between jelly and jam. Bit thicker than butter. It’s lovely!

I'm not very domesticated and tend to buy in. I do like the sound of it though, I usually find jams too sweet.

As a clueless Brit, so what's the difference between jam and jelly then?
Is there a difference?
Jelly to me is the stuff Americans would call jello. 😁

GrouchyKiwi · 18/04/2024 16:58

In NZ - so I don't know if it's true here too - jam has bits in and jelly doesn't - so you strain it to take out all the fruit pulp.
