To continue the discussion...

What next? What did the launch aim to achieve? Did it get the desired result?

I agree with you about the lemons @smilesy. However I think M deliberately chose something quintessentially British because she is milking her royal connections because that's all she has.

Yes that is exactly what she is doing and I think it is symptomatic of the knee jerk, jump headlong behaviour that they both display. “We must sell something really British” instead of “let’s think about what would actually be a good product with the resources we have”. Maybe a fusion of typically British and Montecito. Lemon gin for example 🤷‍♀️

StormzyinaTCup · 18/04/2024 12:10

Highgrove Royal Orchard (HRO) honey 😁

Oh smilsey I do like your idea a lot. Sadly I think H&M don’t laugh at themselves enough in a jovial and mischievous way these days and are trying to compete. They don’t have genuine clout behind them and years of tradition like the royal products so lighthearted seems an obvious route.

This is just all so utterly batshit
It's just jam.
Jars of JAM.
The most inoffensive thing ever, and it's spun into "milking her Royal connections as that's all she has"
Just . wow, OK.

It's speculation, based on Meghan choosing a launch product that doesn't really fit with the orchard brand. It doesn't seem too unreasonable to me. The branding is quite clearly meant to evoke her royal connections after all, and she's using her title.

AutumnCrow · 18/04/2024 12:57

And calling it jam. Not jelly.

I absolutely think there is a major sense of humour failure 😆

It's her brand. Surely she's best fit to say what is and isn't a fit for it?
Plus - her brand at the moment from what we can see is sending some jams out to friends, and social media pages of a logo and nothing else
So how does it "not fit?"
It's barely been launched yet! 😁

Nice boost for Highgrove. I bet their honey is delicious.

Surely if it's Monteciton it should be called jelly?

Because you wouldn't usually associate strawberries with an orchard.

Why do you actually care whether she calls it jam or jelly?
Why does it even matter?!
Maybe she is going for a quintessential British style.
So what if she is?
Her husband is from England. So why not?
Just because they have moved to the US doesn't mean "they're not allowed to use our words anymore!"

I don’t care what she calls it. I just think it’s going to be difficult to up scale and doesn’t really have much of a USP. It has already inadvertently boosted sales of the Duchy and Highgrove products. It just seems like a pale imitation

Blimey, you're getting very het up for a person who is telling everybody else that they shouldn't care what Meghan does!

IcedPurple · 18/04/2024 13:22

Nothing screams "quintessential British style" like American Riviera Orchard, Montecito.

Also, Duchy Originals had to be bailed out by Waitrose a few years back because it was making a loss.

It's very different from the smaller, more personal Highgrove brand.

And they could have poked a little fun at themselves at the same time…

”When life gives you lemons, make gin”.

Not het up at all, just find it utterly bizarre that a brand that hasn't even launched yet is being picked to pieces and obsessively scrutinised, it's just so weird lol

AutumnCrow · 18/04/2024 13:31

People are allowed to be interested in branding and production of a manufactured product during the launch and promotion phase. It's a free country.

GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight · 18/04/2024 13:34

It's always dressed up as "I'm just interested in the marketing and the branding of a new product" isn't it .
Whether it's Meghan or IG mummy bloggers or whoever.
It's like a script
It's a mask for the pure vitriol and hatred bubbling under the surface.
That's what doesn't sit right with me.

Look, we know what we want to discuss. It is so tedious having people come on and go "Why are you even interested in this! Why are you even discussing it! You should stop right now because I said so!".

And then you'll read this post and reply "I don't care if you discuss it or not! It's just that you shouldn't, and you are hypocrites if you do!".

Tiresome and pointless.

That's why I think the best policy is to ignore.

The absence of goadiness was nice while it lasted.

You're right, let's ignore and move on.

So, I was making a serious point about Duchy Originals. People keep mentioning them, but they made a loss and were bailed out by Waitrose. Plus the money goes to charity so a big margin of it does not have to be profit.

And features a pair of tits. And if you squint, it looks like a bit of a cock in between them.

It evokes something alright…
