To continue the discussion...

What next? What did the launch aim to achieve? Did it get the desired result?

She gives me the strong impression that that is the main purpose of her life - to project an image above all else, with very little of substance behind it

It would certainly explain the constant camera-seeking ... she's not alone in "looking for the shots" but I've rarely seen anyone who's quite so obvious about it, or whose expression changes so markedly when a lens comes into view

It is an art.

When she was invited to Rwanda with World Vision, she insisted on first class flights and bringing her make up & hair artist as well as her own fashion photographer. The organiser of the trip had to stay behind as the budget was used up. They also felt blindsided how the trip was used as a fashion photoshoot for MM.

I get so depressed by this - and if you look on another thread her fans are just gushing constantly about her clothes and glamour. (That will probably get my comment deleted).

It may be my age or my upbringing, but the determination of some people to adore this woman because she's very pretty and wears some expensive clothes is utterly dismaying to me. You get some rubbish on other forums, but are MNers really THAT superficial and easily taken in?

Meghan just uses people callously - and often, people whose lives are nowhere near as blessed as hers - gets a 'high' from the publicity and the image-polishing and then moves on with absolutely no self-awareness or humility. I find it very upsetting.

IsoldeWagner · 14/04/2024 11:27

It's how she's used this polo match. It's for Sentebale - but she's acting as if she's the chair of the organisation, and one of the winning players. It's very odd.

Jf20 · 14/04/2024 11:29

I also found it odd. Odd she was handing out the cup. Usually that’s someone like the chairperson of the organisation. I can only assume they paid handsomely for him to plau and her to give the award for the next flix program.

she Really is all about the optics though, she’s in her element.

Abouttimeforanamechange · 14/04/2024 11:38

I think it's interesting that such a persistently litigious couple still haven't sued Tom Bower over the claims in his book.

I believe Tom Bower has invited them to do so, if they dispute anything he has written.

A sort of 'come on, if yer 'ard enough' invitation.

He, and his publisher, must be quite sure of his facts.

IsoldeWagner · 14/04/2024 12:07

Tom Bower has said that repeatedly - Meghan should sue if any of it is untrue.
He's certain of his evidence.

Geebray · 14/04/2024 12:09

I am so going to read his book now!

WhataPithy · 14/04/2024 12:20

@Geebray it’s only £2.99 on Kindle! I decided to purchase it few days ago as my interest was rekindled after not reading anything for couple of years, largely due to the mood and behaviour on the royal family boards here.

IsoldeWagner · 14/04/2024 12:21

It's actually a good read, and very illuminating.

I like them BEST at the Braemar Games, or opening hospital wings in shitsville or staring up a cow’s behind in the name of dairy farmers. The glam stuff should be occasional.

I totally agree. And this is what I think Meghan never got - the difference between royalty and celebrity. I really don't believe she ever had any interest in doing anything which wasn't glamorous or a photo-opportunity. She seems to need constant, constant external validation through being photographed or filmed in glamorous contexts. She gives me the strong impression that that is the main purpose of her life - to project an image above all else, with very little of substance behind it.

But I suppose she's been brought up around film-sets and the whole Hollywood world of transient glamour and perhaps that's what she thinks life IS all about! The problem is, that world is very unforgiving as you get older, and I think she knows that her only hope is to cling on the Harry for dear life in order to keep her place in the sun (or in the front centre of all the photos!!).

Pay to play Hollywood charity (of which World Vision is a classic) to boost one’s profile is very different to either starting a grass roots charity from your individual passion, and/or being there to boost the charity and not yourself, which is what royalty is supposed to be about.

Back when she was a working actress still Meghan wrote a lengthy blog post on The Tig about her trip to Rwanda. The sentence she herself chose to highlights was “While my life shifts from refugee camps to red carpets, I choose them both because these worlds can, in fact, coexist. And for me, they must”.

https://thetig.meghanpedia.com/how-to-be-both/

Interesting to contrast what’s she’s chosen to involve herself in since October 2016 when that was published. I think the trip to South Africa (the “No-one has asked me if I’m okay” trip) in 2019 was her last visit to a less-developed country with widespread poverty? (Well, at least a visit that was focussed on local work, obviously she has been to Jamaica recently but that was to walk a red carpet there).

As long as my hair is done, my make up is perfect and I can find the camera so I can pose.

As is his book about Boris Johnson.

Or visit San Francisco. We won't even discuss NYC, where 5000 asylum seekers are housed in 2 shelters in my work neighborhood alone.

That's shocking, isn't it?

There is massive poverty in California. All Meghan has to do is leave her gated community. Perhaps she could focus on local aid, especially if she allegedly wishes to run for political office.

But ……she gets her aides to hand out backpacks with water and protein bars ! While she stays in the car !

Remember Harry said how much he wanted to live in Africa ? Like that would ever happen !

BemusedAmerican · 14/04/2024 14:45

If you give a man a fish, or feeds him for one day. If you teach him how to fish ( and provide the initial fishing essentials) he feed himself for the rest of his life. 😇

Thedom · 14/04/2024 14:53

While my life shifts from refugee camps to red carpets, I choose them both because these worlds can, in fact, coexist. And for me, they must”.

What bullshit, more useless, meaningless and illogical word salad, and bloody insensitive and insulting, to say a refugee camp and a red carpet could and should coexist.

FFS, A red carpet vs a refugee queuing for hours for a single meal a day, you couldn't have anything more diametrically opposite if you tried.

Although, clearly for her on that one occasion it did coexist, considering she used it as an opportunity and a backdrop for a fashion shoot and self promotion.

These are the disrespectful and insensitive things she spouts that are more than insulting, they are degrading and disparaging, and just show how, even before she met H, she was egotistical and self absorbed.

Yes, and a perfect example of how Meghan makes absolutely everything - including other people's tragedies and suffering - primarily about HER.

Breathtakingly unself-aware. But I think this all fits with the narcissism and 'main character' stuff. Other people's misery is a flattering backdrop and a photo-opp for Meghan.

Yes, that's the drawback of acquiring a reputation for being litigious. People draw inferences when you don't begin an action

She MUST have a red carpet life. She actually said so.

Apparently, she must also have a refugee camp life too. From one so ready to publicize anything that can garner her attention or money, we've seen precious few refugee camps from her....if any. I actually can't think of one.
