To continue the discussion...

What next? What did the launch aim to achieve? Did it get the desired result?

Polo is a strange one - that's clearly a sop to Harry. I'm not sure it would pull in the viewers NF would be looking for. Their Invictus Games doc unfortunately was a disappointment stats wise.

Edit - and it's not exactly relatable to anyone other than the uber wealthy.

EdithWeston · 11/04/2024 20:06

I cannot for the life of me work out where he got the idea that the "British public" want her to do anything of the sort.

I've seen criticism of launching on the day of the Diana awards, and criticism that now, weeks on from the launch, there are no signs of further activity - and that to me suggests that the expectation was that she should be getting on with it!

As a PP said, it's post-rationalisation. They have to try and explain the incompetency as somehow praiseworthy. Or blame it on nefarious others.

And polo is like golf - MASSIVELY unecological and unsustainable!!

But that's all Harry has now.

Except Invictus, which I think is great. And that other coaching thing.

EdithWeston · 11/04/2024 21:10

I wouldn't say thar Netflix is particularly known for cookery shows, but it definitely has them - lots of them

Unless it's a Jilly adaptation?

Royals meets Rutshire?

(After all A P-B was one of the inspirations for R C-B!)

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 11/04/2024 21:18

Hmmm, this wasn’t announced by Netflix. They could very well be announcing that they have things in production. But Netflix have thousands of things in production (at various stages) that will never make it to the screen.

In some ways it would be good for them to do these shows because every time they go on a publicity offensive they reveal more of their toxic traits to the world.

Geebray · 11/04/2024 21:21

As I said on the other thread,

"Early stages of production" doing a lot of heavy lifting there

shenandoahvalley · 11/04/2024 21:41

The polo thing and the Meghan-at-home cooking/entertaining thing I bet is going to be pitched as “we’re so royally rich and so royally glamorous, but we’re also humble and definitely not stuck up like the actual royals, so we’re going to lift the lid on a royal world you ordinary folks don’t get to see, to royally shine a light on how we live royally, so you can do the same at home in your non-royal 3-bed semi [see affiliated links for where to buy our royal shit].” And people will watch that shit. It’ll be like animated Hello Magazine, center spread on Meghan Markle, wearing expensive clothes, with glossy dogs and bright sunshine and kids begging for organic snacks and hydrating water after school, Harry juggling away in the background.

The Kardashians, basically. But Royal.

Geebray · 11/04/2024 21:47

Also "We're actually doing something, you know!!!"

FlouncetteLaFroth · 11/04/2024 21:52

Wonder if she will be cooking in a ball gown too…

You know. To be relatable and that?

Abouttimeforanamechange · 11/04/2024 21:58

How royal are they now? There are a great many people floating around the world who could use the title prince or princess or duke or duchess if they so chose. There are many people living an expensive Californian lifestyle. What makes these two special?

And Meghan celebrating 'the joys of friendship'? Hasn't she dumped or fallen out with most of her former friends?

Ellmau · 11/04/2024 22:01

I imagine the cooking/gardening thing would have been intended to be the tie in with ARO and its products.

shenandoahvalley · 11/04/2024 22:02

Thinking further: I can imagine a 1.5hr special on polo. Explain how the sport works, how the horses and bred and trained and the players too, highlight the glamour of flying horses around the world, focus on the supposed charitable pursuits etc. That might be interesting as a one-off but they’ll have to tread carefully not to come off as upper class twats. With an American production team behind him, and generally not caring if he comes across a buffoon, I can see this working. I don’t think Harry would figure too much, except as a manly man on a horse (he has no team or stables and doesn’t train regularly), but that would be a his thing. He’d burn his bridges with the more discreet players, but we know they don’t care about that. Meghan would also appear, she loved all that polo shit (when she wasn’t second behind Kate). Been in that world 5 minutes but undoubtedly super-confident of her ability to monetize her experience, and very sure about how it should all be done and how everything - especially she - should look. All very exclusive and expensive and elusive (snort). (Edited to add: I wouldn’t be surprised if someone with clout pulled strings to get this pulled. Rich people don’t like to have their richness exposed, and this would definitely cheapen the sport. Quite tawdry, but not the first tawdry thing this couple will have done.)

At-home-with-Meghan - I can’t picture how this would work. Firstly, who cares and who would want to know? Do people care how Meghan Markle entertains? Until she met Harry, she lived in rented accommodation in Toronto (nothing wrong with that, but hardly the harbinger of good housekeeping), and worked as an actress. What standing does she have to tell people how to do all the things they already do but better? How could this not come across as a prolonged advert for her ARO stuff? Nobody famous would want to appear on the show; we all k ow how to roast a chicken; nobody gives a shiny shit how gorgeous her lifestyle can be made to look on TV. I don’t see it, personally. She’s not a serious person, to be taken seriously. Just someone who married Harry.

Serenster · 11/04/2024 22:09

Maybe they’ll finally get to use the trophy ceremony they mocked up, presumed for Netflix, at the Santa Barbara polo club?

StartupRepair · 11/04/2024 22:10

Exactly. Nigella is a brilliant writer about food and her articulateness, food knowledge, great recipes and charm translate brilliantly onto the screen. Meghan has none of those factors.

StormzyinaTCup · 11/04/2024 22:12

Whenever Polo and MM are mentioned in the same sentence I am always reminded of the cup presentation.

Secondhand embarrassment.

shenandoahvalley · 11/04/2024 22:14

Oh yes! When MM coined Nacho Figueras’s wife and herself “p-wife”s!!

God, it’s soooo cringe 😬

BigWillyLittleTodger · 11/04/2024 22:15

Total cringe and then wiping her lipstick off Harry’s chops like he was 5 years old.

Salemforcuddles · 11/04/2024 22:22

I can just imagine her floating about on n the kitchen wearing a ball gown and saying " Harry loves my toad 🐸 in the hole and then a bit of spotted dick"

No. Dear lord.

LadyWhineglass · 11/04/2024 23:18

Polo. Harry. Netflix. Dead horse.

Abouttimeforanamechange · 11/04/2024 20:51

Is she intending to present this cooking and gardening show? What knowledge or expertise would she bring to it? What would make it different from all the many other cooking and gardening shows that have gone before?

"Here's one my ex boyfriend prepared earlier."

That other coaching thing has an extremely bad press from former employees and sounds like a cult.

She could write an affirmation message on a sausage before she gobbles it.

Maybe plant daffodils in the grass spelling ‘I don’t like tights’ ?

Get busy with the ronseal wearing a ball gown?

The best ways to cultivate weed and fungi using nowt but a frozen cock scented candle?

Use the aviation award as a dibber ?
