To continue the discussion...

What next? What did the launch aim to achieve? Did it get the desired result?

That’s a bit mean. The whole of California is pseudo Mediterranean.

Frank Lloyd Wright is turning in his grave 😄

I've never been to one as I live in NYC and don't go to chain restaurants.

But now I get the “Madam Olive Garden” joke on Twitter.

IcedPurple · 11/04/2024 14:51

Olive Garden restaurants are like the TGI Friday franchise in that they're aimed at lower middle-class suburban families who don't want to be challenged on any front but like to think they're going out for a glamorous dinner on a Friday night. It counts as "foreign" food for them. They do things like bottomless pasta, bottomless breadsticks (which are actually delicious) etc. All very bland and neutral, entirely lacking in interest.

It sounds a bit like an American version of Zizzi.

And I agree that Maison Montecito seems very bland and soulless. Though I guess some folk quite like that.

IcedPurple · 11/04/2024 14:56

Just digging around the roughly three pages on the Archewell Foundation website - does what Meghan is wearing here just seem wrong? A bit off?

I dislike that 'straight jacket' style which Meghan seems to go for. That aside, as so often, she's way overdressed for a day time 'conference'. Look at how casually everyone else is dressed.

Someone said that she looks as if she popped up naked from behind the seat. And now I can't unsee it.

Yes, that's about right re Zizzi, except they'll be standalone buildings near a strip mall, or a supermarket/bank/pharmacy grouping in a suburban neighbourhood. They always have parking lots. You sometimes get them in malls, like you'd find a Nando's in a shopping center in the UK.

I expect H&M bought what they could afford amongst whatever was available in that zipcode at the time. There are some jaw-droppingly gorgeous properties in Montecito, and elsewhere in Santa Barbara. Lovely though I'm sure it is, I don't think H&M's house is one of them.

Geebray · 11/04/2024 14:59

Someone said that she looks as if she's crouching naked behind the seat. And now I can't unsee it.

Aha ha ha ha!!! 😂

It's the bared shoulders and flesh. It's just wrong for a daytime family conference. And in fact she looks quite awkward throughout it, so maybe she felt wrong too!

As a general rule of thumb, I've noticed that if you assume that Meghan's appearance at these sorts of events is about her (in her mind) and the photos that will be relayed in the media as opposed to the event she's attending, the fashion choices make sense.

RF appearances keep the event/charity/organisation front and center, rather than the representative who's making an appearance, so fashion choices tend to be unobtrusive or unexceptional. I think this was the reason for Meghan's moaning about always having to wear beige (her favourite colour for clothes and decor now, it would seem) when in the RF: she didn't want to be unobtrusive, she wanted to stand out.

Ah, does this explain the ridiculous black ballgown at the Bob Marley film premiere? Or did they expect it to be a lot dressier?

And, getting back to ARO, I assume it is the same black ballgown in the artfully grainy video?

She didn't wear beige as a working royal.
She wore bright colours - another lie!

I mean what fricking movement isn't "purpose-driven for change"???

You could just say "Supporting family against online harm".

I think that would be too prosaic for them.
They're royalty! They're movers and shakers!

Well she did wear beige/cream, but not only that!

Yes, she wore all sorts of colours. Her choice! (Although Charles paid)
Have a look at the Duchess of Edinburgh thread, some lovely examples on there.
It's just such a stupid thing to moan about.

No, it's her. Prince Harry is was far more of the British persuasion.

Whereas Meghan is all about "following a thing purposefully in order to fully achieve aimful outcomes".

I think they expected to be on the ViP room rather than sitting with the general public .

*Why do they think they’re best placed to advise on online bullying?

Because they have receipts for online bullying? 🤣

Looks like the Bouzy new Twitter narrative is that Meghan put ARO on hold because Catherine is ill. Anyone believe that?

When you see them against the full backdrop, they looked like tele-evangelists.

She didn't give a shit about Charles then?!

Catherine will get blamed for everything by these clowns, even backhandedly.

It’s rather grasping given that nothing was actually ready. And to distract from the weird timing of the “launch”

That bit of the ARO video puts me in mind of a Scottish Widows advert.

Well, I suppose she is the Countess of Dumbarton Grin
