To continue the discussion...

What next? What did the launch aim to achieve? Did it get the desired result?

It’s almost as comical as your attempts to legitimise the act of narrating daily the motivations and sentiments of a person you do not know, and would unlikely ever meet in any social context. But there seems to be enough posters of similar sorts on these type of threads to keep you entertained. Enjoy!

That would go for the supporters also I think.

Unless of course, they do know Meghan and have met her in a social context.

Idle hands and that.

They seem to enjoy it too.

Nothing wrong with launching a website bit off to launch it at the same time as the diana awards I get why it was done the diana effect still exists and anyone googling the awards will most likely trip over her website so tasteless but business savy

But no product? interest will wane and tbh anything she brings out now will not live up to the hype

I think it was a mistake to 'launch' on the very day of the Diana awards. I think they would have had the same impact had they done so a few days later.

And then it wouldn't be yet another example of Doing Something on a day with another connected event (something that is a bad look, from this side of the pond, at least).

And that unfortunate coincidence of timing has been rather compounded by the absence of further activity on the site - which inevitably suggests there was no other driving force for that date

I had my children at the same age as Meghan, more or less, and describe myself as the “mother of a young family” (I still have children at primary school, so it still seems appropriate!). But no, I’m not a young mother.

I also don’t envy Meghan. I admire her past drive and ambition in hustling her way to a role in a long-running US tv show - that’s a real measure of success in a famously cut-throat entertainment industry. But that’s quite a while ago now, and more recently she’s had to deal with employers describing her and Harry as “f*cking grifters” and be dismissed as “not a great talent” by a top Hollywood agent. Plus it seems she’s not a great boss (understatement). That’s not something that inspires envy at all - I’d hate to have someone talk about me in those ways.

And yes, I think she is very beautiful. But ascribing anything more to that quality is the halo effect in full flight. Her physical beauty tells us nothing at all about her character. ILooking stunning on photographs doesn’t mean anyone has personal integrity or a moral compass . Meghan’s actions over the past few years tell us quiet a bit, though.

Yep that’s about it Geebray 😀😄😉

Seriously though, like the woman or not, doesn’t it make you feel uncomfortable that any young mother is pilloried to that extent, no matter who it is or what they have supposed to have done?

It does bother me and makes me more inclined to support them tbh.

And if I may say so, I don’t think threads like this on sm help. None of us know her. What we have seen of her has largely been filtered through a negative prism of press or tv interest. Oprah was out to make money just like the rest.

Most people on Mumsnet are reasonably articulate and intelligent. Most are aware of how the press and media makes a buck and it’s not through positivity.

Edited to say: I can’t be a member of the Sussex Squad because I literally do not know what that is!

She's 42. Hardly a "young mum".

Does anyone really care about the Diana Awards though? Even in Britain, they're kind of a non event.

My guess is the business is nowhere near ready, and may never be. It's not just about getting inventory, it's about planning pricing, delivery, customer service, promotion and so much more. And even after all that, it could take years to turn a profit. If ever.

I think Meghan has shown that she just doesn't have the patience, dedication or work ethic for that kind of thing, even if the work is, and should be, mostly delegated to experts. And I still think that if she was going to do something like this, she should have done it years ago, when she was still fresh and exciting. The time she spent slagging off her husband's family could have been spent on building up a brand. But it's too late now.

It needs tweaking to sound a lot less pompous and up itself, that's for sure.

IsoldeWagner · 09/04/2024 19:17

It's all a bit fan girls isn't it?
When I was a teenager Abba won Eurovision. I went to a girls' school and so many girls were huge fans of Anna and Frida, following the fashions, buying the magazines about them etc.
They were beautiful/talented/stylish etc.
It reminds me of that. Except Meghan isn't Frida or Anna, and these followers aren't teenage girls in a convent school in the country.

She's not yet shown that she does have those qualities. But that doesn't mean she hasn't. And this is perhaps a chance to show what she has

She produced one boring podcast series in 3 years. Many podcasters put out an episode a week, or several episodes a week. Barely anything for Netflix either. 40 x 40 was forgotten as soon as it was launched. "Archwell" is a damp squib.

Now we have an empty website which hasn't been developed in nearly a month. I think we can see something of a behaviour pattern here, although of course I may yet be proved wrong.

Can someone remind me when this was announced?

And what are the typical timelines from securing a platform to podcasts appearing?

@OliverTwisted i imagine Harry Enfield has so much material for another series of The Windsors he doesn't know where to start.

he could call it Membrillo & Montecito. [hopes someone gets the pun]

I'm not sure about the 'timeline' but clearly Spotify were unhappy with the Sussexes' output. Which is why they terminated their contract and a senior executive referred to them as 'grifters'.

The Lemonada thing was announced in February, with vague talk of another unspecified podcast at some unspecified time in the future. Maybe never.

@IcedPurple - I had totally forgotten about 40x40. That came to nowt. All I remember is that idiot man child juggling outside the window because he couldn't be allowed in, or something.

The earliest reference I can find is in Variety on 13 February

It's not my world so I have no idea how long it would be expected to take to get the first podcast out, but all the same I'd have expected to hear something more, if only what the content's likely to be

It's also said they'll distribute the first season of Markle’s “Archetypes” series for all audio platforms, supposedly starting this spring, so maybe they're leaning on this aspect rather than creating anything new - though of course it's spring now and there seems no sign of this either

The success will be measured on what Meghan expects from the venture. Will this all be limited stock to add to the desirability, then yes it could be seen as highly successful when the 10 overpriced jams sell out, but not in the realms of high turnovers of cash. Similar to the PR of a dress selling out, pretty easy if it's limited edition. It’s hard to judge their popularity in the US as they carefully manage their appearances. There’s lot of noise on twitter but the actual likes are small in social media sense, the gossip is where the clicks and money come from. I do think this was a follower tester, which was not as high as I expected with Meghan not having a personal instagram at the moment. I’m hoping it’s successful, I don’t mind Meghan.

IsoldeWagner · 09/04/2024 20:18

@FlouncetteLaFroth - genius! Love The Kinks.
I was listening to Classic Rock in the car and they played their version of Bob Dylan's Tambourine Man.
Just wonderful 😊
