The royal family

What exactly is "the Sussex Squad"?

Prydddan · 06/04/2024 14:56

I don't know whether this is too controversial a topic for such a thread to be allowed to stand. But I post in good faith on a topic I believe has a lot of social and political relevance.

Does the "Sussex Squad" actually exist? If so, how do you join? If not, do people ever identify as belonging to it?

If it exists, was it hijacked by SarahData and Bouzy or was it their creation? And, if so, to what extent?

Thanks in advance.

@YaMuvva I think your language around women and mental health is really derogatory

Again we are not talking about mental health, I am talking about strength of character

Whats being a woman got to do with it?!

ForIAmAStalwartOfTheseThreads · 22/04/2024 18:28

Disregarding any MH issues, Harry seems to be just like his mother.

Did good things.

Then fucked it sky high with erratic, ill advised, vindictive and spiteful actions.

EdithWeston · 22/04/2024 18:29

Meghan was however talking about her MH issues when she said that HR couldn't help her.

And that is likely to be true - as I posted above, there's a whole separate Medical Household - whose existence is so well known there's a wiki page about it, and who would have been looking after Harry since birth and Meghan since she joined the family. I really do not understand why she was asking HR in the first place, nor why Harry could not tell her the correct department to approach if that had somehow not been explained to her.

(Mention of Andrew is just what-abouttery to deflect/divert. Best left unanswered here, I think, as there are other threads where he is discussed/deplored. His appalling sleazy choices have no bearing on the choices and actions of other members of the RF)

EdithWeston · 22/04/2024 18:31

Oh, and the term "squaddies" always tickles me.

It's clear that those who use it in this context are ignorant of its well-established usage in British English to mean a low-ranking soldier (since WW1)

YaMuvva · 22/04/2024 18:35

Salemforcuddles · 22/04/2024 18:22

This isn't about defending Meghan it's about not making assumptions about how people with mental health issues should behave

Actually as someone who lives with somebody who has acute MH issues and PTSD from the army it’s absolutely 100% acceptable and beneficial to call out people with depression when they’re behaving poorly.

By the very nature of depression it’s a condition that makes the sufferer self centered and gives them tunnel vision. When you have other people in your life it’s important for them to know when you’re behaving selfishly or melodramatically. It helps NO ONE to tip toe around someone with MH issues

As an aside I think Meghan either hugely exaggerates her MH problems or she weaponises them for sympathy. Or both. As someone who has seen the drastic effects of MH problems and the genuine suffering people experiencing, I do not like people who do this and I feel no shame in calling it out

About 2 pages back some posters were saying that the words 'vitriol/vitriolic' have become popular just at present, so I was trying to think of done-to-death words or terms which have often been used by posters who were wanting to defend H and M on every point.

Aaaah, you do a VERY good impression of a ‘squaddie’ 🤣🤣

Imagine the HR person she went to - who was probably in the midst of dealing with bullying claims about Meghan herself - and being asked to make a doctor appointment. I bet they thought ‘WTF’

you've missed the point.. H&M have said repeatedly NO ONE should have to "put up" and "shut up" when it comes to the gutter press. No one should have to earn the right to be left alone by the papers.

Maybe they should try putting their money where their mouth is then.

I have not missed any point.

After having been wound up to high paranoia by someone with an agenda.

Obsessed. As in 'you lot are obsessed!' I got that on a RF thread around the time HM died - apparently more than five posts meant I spent all my waking hours thinking about these people. No idea what that said about the regulars at the time.

Forelock tuggers - that was another one, mainly used by the avowed republicans who in the same breath defended PH. Also 'serfs' and 'these people don't care about you, why do you care about them?'

And of course the perennial no-further-words-needed favourite - 'Daily Mail readers.'

why are these anti-Sussex posters always so vulgar..

I don't fucking know.

The Sewer Squad aren't known for being sweetness and light now are they???

Silly petty post.

I have no axe to grind and have had very little interest in this thread till today. I’m baffled about why anyone thinks M and H are particularly bad people. They seem pleasant enough to me.
The media interviews, in part, have been ill-judged and they seemed naive about what the media would choose to focus on following them (you can’t criticise the royal family and not expect huge backlash).
Generally though, I see no reason to go on and on about this couple.

Don't then.

I tend to communicate in a polite manner with those who have something intelligent to say.

If folk insist on spouting the same old shite day after day, I let my standards go.

No point in using the nicer words in the dictionary. It just masks my exasperation. And coarse vocabulary tends to get to the point quicker before the shift change.

MummyJ12 · 22/04/2024 18:53

@YaMuvva you’ve got the Sussex Squad in a nutshell in your post upthread!

This thread started because of the allegations made about the Sussex Squad - its activities, associated people and the links (including financial) between them.

And I've asked several times (and on other threads) if there is any other take on what is contained in those allegations. Because the writer will have been presenting evidence in the way that best supports his case. And I'm interested in critiques of that case.

Not a litany of past woes. Not an assumption that I think H&M are bad (I don't btw, but I do think they've blundered at times, particularly with misrepresentations of verifiable facts)

No-one has posted anything that shows why any of the case is wrong (eg excessive reliance on weak evidence, salient mitigations glossed over or omitted). So I am beginning to think that it is perhaps more solid than I'd first expected

You're right. None of them ever makes a cohesive, evidence-based rebuttal of any of it.

Prydddan · 22/04/2024 20:17

And none of them answer the question - are you a member of the Sussex Squad. They can't admit, and won't deny it.

I couldn't remember many in my short litany but you have added some here and I have just thought of 'plebs' and 'flunkeys'.
Somewhere in the ether which is Mumsnet there will have been posts from me explaining that I was growing my forelock two years ago for the Platinum Jubilee, that I curtsey 27 times an evening to a portrait of the Late Queen in the hall, and that I was the fawning champion of East England in 2003. My recollection may vary from what I precisely said at the time.

Better than "Daily Mail readers".....
Daily Fail !
So original and witty.

I'll add 'why are you even interested' and 'they're living rent free in your head' to the list.

Personally speaking I'm interested in these two things (among the many others we've covered here) because the only thing they ever did in the UK was live rent free at public expense while trumpeting their magic money tree 'repayment'.
