What exactly is "the Sussex Squad"?

I don't know whether this is too controversial a topic for such a thread to be allowed to stand. But I post in good faith on a topic I believe has a lot of social and political relevance.

Does the "Sussex Squad" actually exist? If so, how do you join? If not, do people ever identify as belonging to it?

If it exists, was it hijacked by SarahData and Bouzy or was it their creation? And, if so, to what extent?

Thanks in advance.

Maybe it is just them? I work in an office with a diverse group of people from different generations and from varied parts of the US and none of my co-workers have ever used that term.

AliceOlive · 10/04/2024 19:18

Well, when you pay for something you get a receipt. So…

AutumnCrow · 10/04/2024 19:35

Mary Beard uses it all the time. Never fucking stops.

'Tacitus was particularly sardonic about the effectiveness of the Roman state's conquests of the north-west provinces. We know this, because I've got the receipts.' <Brandishes copy of The Annals of Imperial Rome, circa AD 115>

What were called 'primary sources' when I was doing my degree.

(I watched MB about the Roman emperors on BBC2 earlier in the week. Does she ALWAYS go on so much about toilet habits?)

I cannot unsee her demonstration of the use of the toilet cleaning stick 😱😂

Yeah, a description would have been fine. It's obvious what the thing was used for, after all. I was trying very hard not to think what nasties that being used by everyone might have been spreading around...😱

CathyorClaire · 10/04/2024 20:04

We have the receipts of all of it. No to answer the one question: you don't get scrutinized to join etc. etc. You just make yourself known that you are with them in support.

Playing catch up as ever and am quite excited to see a squaddie venturing from cover for an AMA

So. You just make yourself known, self declare as a supporter and the 'receipts' (whatever they comprise) are laid bare?

Are you surprised you get infiltrated?

Yes! Not quite the full monty, but fairly graphic 😂😂

It's too bizarre. Someone comes on a thread, makes unsubstantiated claims that have been debunked many times, won't engage in debate, goes off, rinse and repeat. Very strange. It's fine if they want to talk about H&M and discuss an opinion, but that's not what's happening.

Someone didn't get the memo. Or perhaps it's a Squaddie initiation ordeal - see if you can wind up the Mnetters on the royal board. Lifetime free membership if you inflame the conversation to the point MNHQ has to come on the board with a warning.

It is wonderful that the question in the OP has been answered by such a perfect example!

Oh bless, they think the UK is one island? Well, isn't that just adorable?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 10/04/2024 20:40

I've never been jilted by Harry and I'll bet that neither has anyone on here. Why do they have to have a reason why people wonder about things? can't it just be daydreaming, or boredom or something?

IsoldeWagner · 10/04/2024 20:45

Oh dear god - I'd say "please, take him off us, love!" Blooming liability.

CathyorClaire · 10/04/2024 20:47

Does it involve saying Beetlejuice three times? What if we end up summoning an entity?

I think we're safe as long as we avoid repeated 'Harolds'. And mirrors 🤓

Oh dear...the impression I got from reading about Harry pre-Meghan was that he couldn't keep his girlfriends - they, quite reasonably, dumped him when they decided they didn't want the gig!

So I don't think he did much jilting, to be honest. The boot was on the other foot.

I think that whatever defines SS membership, a good dollop of fantasy is in the mix.

Vespanest · 10/04/2024 20:51

Harry invited us into his life, it’s the stupidity that he expects he can close the door when he wants to. I hope he is having a happy and fulfilled life, but he’s an object of gossip not because of the bad British media but because he sold his story and chances are he’ll do it again. The poster claimed this is about the media, the irony is the person they support is the media. There was many third party people whose privacy was invaded, everything he and his supporters are supposedly against.

It sounds exhausting to live at that pitch of emotion all the time. Everything has a sinister motive behind it, according to them.

Definitely, do not look in mirrors after saying Harold three times.

DuchessOfPort · 10/04/2024 20:54

Are there no articulate members of the Sussex squad? Do they all lack basic punctuation skills, the ability to engage in a measured but persuasive discussion and demonstrate they can see the other side’s points of view but argue it politely?

The biggest difference seems to be how utterly humourless they are. At least the majority of those on here who would argue that M&H have engaged in some revolting hypocrisy and whingeing for money are able to be witty about it.
