What exactly is "the Sussex Squad"?

Prydddan · 06/04/2024 14:56

I don't know whether this is too controversial a topic for such a thread to be allowed to stand. But I post in good faith on a topic I believe has a lot of social and political relevance.

Does the "Sussex Squad" actually exist? If so, how do you join? If not, do people ever identify as belonging to it?

If it exists, was it hijacked by SarahData and Bouzy or was it their creation? And, if so, to what extent?

Thanks in advance.

I find it beyond baffling for some people to completely ignore the type of racism that physically harms African women and threatens the very livelihood of African people under the guise of environmentalism.

More worried about two multimillionaires, highly privileged with education, wealth, beauty and connections while ignoring actual human suffering caused by a group they proudly tout as doing good.

Absolutely this!

Can't the SS see the irony? For those still who insist on clinging to the idea that racism is the basis for antagonism towards Meghan, surely their substantial reserves of time and energy would be better deployed where real harm is being done.

We have the receipts of all of it.

@keffie12 Why don't you show them instead of talking incessantly about having them while spreading unsubstantiated rumours?

Well, this one is at least true.

There is evidence out there to the racism and the daily death threats. There is evidence from the police themselves and also those who have threatened them

Except it’s true for all the senior Royals, not just the Sussexes. They all receive death threats and threats of kidnap etc. The police reported in 2023 that they have seen a large increase in the number of people in the UK that they need to monitor because of the threat they are deemed to pose to various members of the family (i.e. the UK-based family, not the Sussexes).

So it's not unique to H&M. Similarly, how many people of colour in the public eye don't receive racist threats, and how many women in the public eye don't receive rape threats, and how many from both groups don't receive death threats? H&M don't suffer anything unique. That's not taking away from anything they have suffered, but they can't claim they are especially targeted.

IsoldeWagner · 10/04/2024 13:56

It's their claim that they are uniquely victims that's the problem.

BemusedAmerican · 10/04/2024 14:07

@Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar That was the best summary of the William affair rumor chain that I have read.

My sister is a Stephen Colbert fan. After his show, she kept saying that he was a devout Catholic so how could he say that type of vicious rumor? I suggested she rethink her views of him.

What I find most troubling is that Meghan will undoubtedly know how it is to be on the receiving end of racist comments as she was growing up.

But to insinuate that racism was a problem within the royal family and the British Public with no receipts and then her husband said that they didn’t say anything of the sort? Then OS’s little accidental reveal - again with no receipts?

That ultimately is far more of a problem in that genuine experiences of racism will not be taken as seriously going forward.

They need to realise that the damage they are trying to cause the Royal Family with their assertions and allegations has a far wider effect on society.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 10/04/2024 14:31

@ForIAmAStalwartOfTheseThreads I've said it before on these threads and been laughed at for it: but my biggest problem with H&M is the way they have helped to damage race relations in the UK with the help of their supporters. It's not just them; we've had the perfect storm that includes amongst other things Brexit, imported BLM grievances and the burgeoning and profitable inclusion and diversity industry that just seems to reinforce division and suspicion. But their BS has certainly been a huge part of the problem and helped to damage UK's reputation globally and unfairly in race relations terms.

Thank you. I can't take the credit, as there are many out there who have looked into it, and I'm just repeating their research. However, I am happy to keep repeating that debunk.

Post Trump's election, I used to love Colbert and would seek out any clips I could find of The Late Show on YouTube. I think post Trump's defeat has been an eye opener for me and I've had to revise my love of him, John Oliver, John Stewart and a few others. Along with CNN et al. None of them seem to want to do anything other than sew more division. I can just about still stand Bill Maher!

Colbert's Rose Hanbury diatribe was like nothing I've seen him do before. Just a pointlessly nasty piece, mostly about a woman who is not a public figure, never mind known in the US. I can't imagine what - or who - prompted him to include that in his show. His non apology "regret" that his jokes offended people really shows him in an even worse light. I hope he had to be cagey for legal reasons, and not simply because he's a shit.

Hmm. What interesting commonality of SN.

It's all rather revealing.

Bouzy is becoming more unhinged on this stuff by the day, which is a shame.

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 10/04/2024 15:05

The cult continues.

Remember all to apply the BITE model to any online groups you find yourself in, just to make sure that it isn’t a cult.

Is your group asking or demanding a specific behaviour?

Does your group attempt to control information, including through telling direct lies and cutting you off from other sources of information?

Does your group attempt to tell you what to think? For example, to be part of the group must you adhere to all tenets of the group’s dictated aims and ideals? This include thought stopping cliches and use of meaningless group speak.

Does your group attempt emotional control through DARVO, gaslighting and humiliation?

Most importantly, can you disagree with people in the group or leave without being punished mentally, emotionally of physically?

The fact that she’s completely unknown is what made it so suspicious to me. That and so many WME people getting involved.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 10/04/2024 15:28

The WME connection. Are we just seeing a connection because we are not looking at non WME people saying the same "where's Kate?" nonsense, or are we seeing it because it is in fact something that an agency would do - coordinate their stars to engage in something so crass (and ultimately bullying) for publicity? Or is it a mean girls group? Kim Kardashian shared a WhatsApp group message saying something shitty about Catherine. Is it just friends being dicks? Is Colbert a friends of the Sussexes having had Harry whine on his show? Was it ever established whether that was filmed before an audience or whether the laughter was piped in after the event? If the latter, how is that different to photoshopping?

I think that Private Eye has the perfect riposte to all those celebrities who are happy to make fun of Catherine before the cancer diagnosis was made public. They used Owen Jones but the point is universal.

What exactly is "the Sussex Squad"?

I saw that Private Eye, @MrsLeonFarrell . None of the papers covered themselves in glory, not lease the high-minded Independent stirring the pot with its completely ram=ndom profile of Rose Hanbury. And obviously Lil Owen is a total dick.

I'm still intrigued by the WME thing though. Obviously the papers needed to talk about Catherine for clicks, but all these random stars who already have more than enough of a fan base, aren't in any way associated with the BRF, and don't need the negative publicity associated with mean girl behaviour? I'd love to understand what went on there and if they were instructed/advised to engage in the "Where's Kate?" pile on. And what WME thinks of the outcome, whether or not it was their strategy.

I don't think it needed to be related to WME, so many people made the bad decision to get caught up in the speculation, forgetting there was a real person at the centre. Celebrities make bad decisions just like the rest of us and they got caught up in the need to be relevant and cool on social media without thinking it through.

The sad thing is that none of them would have apologised without the cancer diagnosis.

Absolutely, and all those apologies were completely disingenuous, because if they'd stepped back and thought for just a few seconds they would have realised that a surgery requiring two weeks in hospital and months of convalescence was obviously for something serious. Illnesses other than cancer are possible. Making speculative, gossipy posts, or jokes, about a woman in that situation was always unpleasant.

Still awaiting assessment of what he has written about the organisation, strategy and tactics, rather than litany of past woes.

(Though as I said before, I might regret asking that, as it does seem to provoke random musings and stuff that's been debunked regularly, rather than moving on to what he's actually said now)

I think we've got the teenager wing of the squad posting today. Must be the section that you join for free with limited access to the privileges but get pushed onto SM to go over the top with the defence. A bit like the poor bloody infantry on the first day of the Somme.

Edited

This made me think that we are back to Baldrick and acunning plan Grin

Maybe you just need to write a more direct prompt for the bot? Wink
