The royal family

Calling her Kate Middleton seems so disrespectful

In the midst of all this, I hope that anyone who reports on or speaks about the matter can refrain from calling her Kate Middleton. She is the Princess of Wales, and that's that.

Other than that, I sincerely pray that she and the family are offered privacy and respect that they themselves ask for, and deserve.

"Lady Di" is not the same as Kate M
Not sure the others are.

Presumably because she was titled?

It's all comparable. They all retained their maiden monikers despite their marriage in to the firm. They remain commoners in the minds of the public and are referred to as such.

Kate isn't being singled out for ridicule nor derision.

Shall we call her MIL Camilla Parker-Bowles, then?

No one really thinks of camilla as "queen"

ffsgiveitarest · 22/03/2024 23:18

Arguing about a name, ffs get a grip! Her name is Catherine and Catherine M is her birth name, but people call her Kate. The woman has been diagnosed with cancer, and probably wants to keep it private as she has young kids and also her father in law has had a diagnosis of cancer and as a king the focus needs to be on him.

Cancer doesn’t give a jot what a persons name or status is, it certainly doesn’t give a fuck if she is called Kate M, me lady, or the princess of Wales!

Of course they do. I do, given that that is exactly who she is. If she were referred to as Camilla Parker-Bowles I wouldn't suddenly forget what her title is just because it isn't being used in that moment.

Same with Kate Middleton. Using her name doesn't make anyone forget she's the Princess of Wales/future queen/Duchess of Cambridge etc.

Its not "all comparable."

The media and social media could call HRH kae as just that or PoW, or just Kate but 'Kate middleton' not on imo

Such an ill-informed post.

She may be "Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales" here, but in Scotland her correct title is "Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Rothesay."

It really isn't a case that 'she is the Princess of Wales, and that's that.'

OK...you're clearly much more invested in this than I can be bothered to be.

slippedonabanana · 22/03/2024 23:31

I don't know anyone in real life who uses titles when referring to members of the royal family. It is simply Charles, Camilla, William, Kate, Harry, Meghan etc. I thought that was the norm?

Bringtheweatherwithyou · 22/03/2024 23:32

It has been said that she prefers the name Catherine, so even on that basic fact, people calling her Kate are ignoring her wishes.

What BS. William called her Kate in their engagement interview.

Seriously there are a great deal of more worthy causes for you to be offended about. Kate Middleton isn't one of them.

Nothing to do with that other than common sense and respect.

I do appreciate the fact you have not been rude as many FM's start to get nasty. Thank you

What is an FM?

maximist · 23/03/2024 00:05

What is an FM?

It's been asked many times, but I've never seen an answer....

imgoodthanks · 23/03/2024 00:24

Too slavish. I wish her all the best in her recovery from the bottom of my heart, but that's just way too slavish lol. I can almost hear you slobbering.

FMLWTF · 23/03/2024 00:40

I can’t imagine she cares one jot. I find it strange that others care so much on her behalf. Is it because some women still think their status is elevated by being married and taking their husband’s name? She is referred to as Kate Middleton by everyone. It’s not just the media.

LorlieS · 23/03/2024 00:43

@FMLWTF Totally agree. I'm married and would be far more offended if someone was to address my as Mrs Husband's Last Name!

HollyKnight · 23/03/2024 02:11

I bet Fergie dreamed of only being reduced to First-name Maiden-name.

myboyandmee · 22/03/2024 18:54

Diana was a princess as soon as she married Prince Charles. Princess Catherine wasn’t a princess until the Queen died so we all got used to her being Kate Middleton

Er she became a princess when she married, it is one of her titles, Princess William. But the late Queen gave William the title Duke of Cambridge so she became Duchess of Cambridge.

When Charles became King William inherited the Duke of Cornwall title.

She is also the Princess of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall, Duchess of Rothesay Countess Carrick, Baroness of Renfrew and Lady of the Isles.

But if she chooses she can still be Kate Middleton.

Exactly this, people still say Cheryl Cole for example.

Omg I just realised that I also say Cheryl Cole and it didn’t even tweak when I first read it. And that’s not even her maiden name, it’s her WAG name!

Plenty do, but Camilla is a much more unusual name so a surname for clarity is needed much less often than in Kate's case.

Names stick. People don't tend to call Camilla the Queen outside of news reports, and one reason for that is that we all still think QE2 when we hear it.

InTheShiningStars · 22/03/2024 21:57

With a K? I don’t think so.

Yeah, fair point but certainly Catherine.

honeylulu · 22/03/2024 22:00

Her name is Katherine Windsor.

Not according to official documents. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-23552087

And seeing as her first name is spelt Catherine you haven't even got that bit right.

Edited

Yes, fair point. Fingers moving faster than brain.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 23/03/2024 06:55

Her dad Mike calls her Kate.
Well he did when he was in my husband’s office one Saturday morning doing some business and he took a call from her.

Sharptonguedwoman · 23/03/2024 06:57

That's interesting but I'm guessing she doesn't like it.

blue345 · 23/03/2024 07:01

Without good cause, I slightly twitch when people call her Catherine.

In fairness I think she'd probably be called Kate Married surname but the royals don't really use a proper surname (Wales to Cambridge) for example so it doesn't stick. (I'm aware they have full legal surnames but they're not often used either).

sashh · 23/03/2024 07:04

Sashamalia · 22/03/2024 19:13

Are you sure that Catherine had a choice ti be known as princess as wales?

I doubt it.

I doubt that she has any avenue, when charles became king to say "hey I don't want to be known as princess as wales"

It's not her making one choice like married women can make for themselves.

Kate would have to stand up to centuries of tradition, Palace officials etc

Er you do remember before Camilla was queen don't you? She was 'The princess of Wales' but chose not to use it.
