My mum thinks she may have cervical cancer which apparently is hard to treat and doesn't have a high life expectancy if you have it and it doesn't present with many signs/symptoms

This is really inaccurate.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 23/03/2024 23:49

Oh for fucks sake. Will you all stop posting half-arsed theories, most of which is inaccurate.

which I assume is to mop up any stray cancer cells that remain in her body.

Christ.

No idea why you felt a timeline was needed (especially one that sounds fairly inaccurate).

Every post I’ve ever seen from you has been needlessly acerbic and not even particularly accurate or useful.

Let’s hope she tells the top level oncologists she’s been working with to go fuck themselves, because she no longer needs them due to your mom knowing exactly what to do.

needadvice29 · 24/03/2024 06:35

I don't understand how with her getting tip top health care that they didn't know it was cancerous prior to removal. Why no preop biopsy's.

My mum thinks she may have eaten baked beans for dinner..

We have no idea what sort of cancer, just as we have no idea what the original procedure was or why it was done.

Biopsies are often taken if cancer is suspected at the outset, post-operative histology can also be done on any tissue removed during a procedure even when cancer is not suspected (as a kind of belt and braces check). This is utterly normal, and does not tell us anything about what was actually going on as that remains, rightly, private

By my mum says she's got a belly button piercing that got infected so that's probably what it is.

Timeline to give my understanding of what happened when.

What specifically is inaccurate?

I agree, I wouldn't bother engaging with Earrings, she seems to be unhelpfully aggressive wherever she posts.

Because whether that is appropriate depends on the details, which quite rightly we don’t have access to.

EarringsandLipstick · 23/03/2024 21:34

@DappledThings

'Mopping up stray cancer cells in her body' sounds accurate to you? Really?

We don't, rightly, know the nature of the abdominal surgery but clearly cancer could have been a possibility, given it was initially felt the condition was non-cancerous. The way the biopsy is mentioned, is not how it happens.

That isn’t true. There is no ‘how it happens’, it depends on many factors, which the individual’s medical team are aware of, and we are not.

GreenClock · 24/03/2024 11:01

Everyone’s an oncologist now. These people were also experts in Eastern European geopolitics in 2022, and epidemiology in 2020.

Shityshitybangbang · 24/03/2024 11:47

Seems to be so many experts on here. lol 😂 I’m no expert either and I don’t pretend to know everything either.
Not everyone gets a pre operation biopsy. I had colon cancer in august, all removed. and because the tumor was blocking my bowel it had to come straight out, results from biopsy aprox 4 weeks later. Chemo for unwanted cell, 8 weeks after my operation.
Now I have a mass on my chest, been slow growing for years so consultant says. We are on the watch and wait with it. The surgeon wants to take it out completely with no pre operative biopsy.

Same happened to me @Shityshitybangbang I had an operation with no biopsy before and cancer was found after surgery. Had radiotherapy to kill any unwanted cancer cells.

Hope you’re ok now? It’s scary isn’t it. I suppose it depends on where the tumor is or how big it is. They maybe need to shrink the tumor before they operate so they biopsy it to get a prognosis so they know what treatment to give.

Interestingly the Guardian has a chemo explainer today by its science editor that phrases it that way: “The treatment, also known as adjuvant chemotherapy, is a course of anti-cancer drugs that is given to mop up any cancer cells”. So you weren’t inaccurate at all. And I’d say most non-oncologists use idioms and laymen’s terms to describe it: in my family, it’s been called zapping the cells, killing them, getting them. Mopping up is just another way of describing it in a way that’s easily understandable.

Shetlands · 24/03/2024 18:47

When I had radiotherapy after a lumpectomy, it was described as mopping up any stray cancer cells. I know there's a medical term but it's a good way for doctors to describe it to patients.

ajandjjmum · 24/03/2024 18:47

Thank @pelargoniums - 'mop up' was the phrase my oncologist used to me. He obviously realised I wasn't up on medical terminology! Smile

It doesn't matter whether she was hounded into releasing this or whether there is a different reason why she chose to disclose her situation now.

The fact is she was hounded. Especially on Mumsnet. While dealing with an awful situation.

Posters positively salivating over Rose, calling Kate and William lazy when he cancelled the reading as he found out about Kate's bad news, and just lacking basic humanity and empathy.

At least Harry and Meghan had grace enough to share a supportive message. I won't be looking at these threads anymore. They are in extremely poor taste.

I don't have much time for H&M's "supportive message"! I do the hypocrites stay well clear!

SerenityNowInsanityLater · 24/03/2024 23:03

At least Harry and Meghan had grace enough to share a supportive message.

Ah well then, a nice change from Harry’s usual steaming dog turd slinging. What next, flowers and a get well card from Oprah?

imgoodthanks · 25/03/2024 00:03

Why on earth would Harry and Meghan post a statement about her cancer? Or, to be fair, would it have been weirder if they didn't?

Why post it publicly though? Surely you send a private message to family in these circumstances. They could have just said they’ve sent a private message if they thought anyone was interested if they had.

Although if I was Kate I’d tell them to shove it where the sun doesn’t shine (although they probably really do think it does shine out of their arses!) after all the nasty accusations and green eyed bitterness they’ve thrown at Kate and William, Kate in particular.

Can you imagine if the suspicions about the affair rumour originating from their camp were true as well (and K&W are aware but can’t say) and the toll that would have taken on Kate, especially with it resurfacing in a frenzy while she was trying to process having cancer and having to tell her children as it was having to be made public!

Absolutely despicable.

No other member of the RF posted a statement other than the King!

I haven't been following any rumours about the affair (not a royal fan at all but the Harry spat intrigues me)...

Well I was thinking maybe it's like a public olive branch since a personal message to Kate may not be well received, but just to let W&K know they do wish well and are there for her.

Probably giving them way too much credit. But I feel like after the cancer news, Harry at least must feel sad and perhaps even guilty given how close the trio seemed to be at one point doing Invictus. Harry seemed to be thriving then too.

Not to push the "vixen woman, innocent man" narrative but it seems Meghan does bring the worst out of him (or at least they bring the worst out of each other).

Harry has always seemed impressionable, I feel like Kate was a bit of a mother/older sister figure to him during the trio days and now Meghan's taken that role.

He's been viewing Kate through a lens of resentment since he met Meghan, whereas they were all close before. Maybe the latest news will give him a more objective view/appreciation of his SIL... People are like that, always need a wake-up call
