The royal family

If you were William, how would you handle the Diana Legacy Awards from now on?

Would you distance yourself from it, on the grounds that it provides an opportunity for your estranged brother to take a poke at you?

Carry on, grey rocking the antics from Montecito?

Something else I can't think of?

(And before anyone rocks up to tell me to get a life, find something to do, take up a hobby - I'm having a quiet day today where I'll do what I fancy, so go take your own advice.)

Gosh. Way to go to trash a dead woman 😮

Well said.
There might be a rift between them but to make it a competition of who cares most...or least... is crass

Call me crass then. I’ve been called worse here.

William is showing care for his mother’s legacy by protecting her privacy. It’s not a competition between who loved her the most, but who has the most sense about it is quite obvious.

I think this is an awful thing to say, and inaccurate. William has called his mother paranoid, apart form that I have no doubt both sons care about their mothers legacy and I think it sucks that members of the public are always pitting them against each other. To do so regarding their mother is pretty low. I am sure she would be horrified at anyone making it into a competition.

He indicated that Diana was paranoid with respect to a certain point in time due to specific circumstances. He has a right to protect her. He was in the closest proximity to understand it. He never said it was her whole nature or a permanent state. She had been badly gaslit and gave the interview under those circumstances.

You can twist the words but most people understood what he said and why he did so.

I’m not sure why you’d worry about this given that a live one is happily being trashed constantly!

Lockupyourbiscuits · 15/03/2024 19:50

I think turning up via video link at midnight is so arrogant and disrespectful to the award recipients - if you can’t be bothered to turn up at a reasonable time let your brother do it

Not to mention using the publicity for your own award - unbelievable!

Im getting sick of people making excuses for him

Yes Meghan is, I agree

From what has been written in various books, arguably William in particular was emotionally abused by his mother. She deliberately kept the boys from their father when he's arranged to see them. She'd take William off to her bedroom for TV dinners (Harry getting shunted off to the nursery) when they were supposed to be with Charles. She used him as a confident when he was far too young to be burdened by her problems. She should have been trying to shield him and provide some normalcy within her break up with Charles, not reinforcing divisions and weaponizing them. Her affair partner, James Hewitt, was introduced into their lives. William is pretty amazing not to have ended up going down the recreational drugs route his brother has taken, and to have spotted his brother's troubles and encouraged him into therapy. Far from insulting Diana's legacy, he seems to have managed not to be sucked under by it, whilst still respecting her memory and trying to get justice for her treatment at the hands of the monstrous liar, Martin Bashir. Good for him.

Totally agree. And Hewitt wasn't the only one of her livers that was introduced to the boys.

Sageyboots · 15/03/2024 20:01

I think it’s a bit unfair how it’s being reported that William didn’t hang around to overlap with Harry. Presumably William was on stage shaking hands at the usual pre-dinner ceremony time… it would have been weird if he had to hang around at the winners hotel to see Harry 3 hours later. Not sure about time differences but couldn’t Harry just get up early and dial in at a sensible time?

Well said. I can't believe William is getting called unprofessional, when it is Harry who could not be bothered to get on a plane and do the event in person at a reasonable time of the guests and recipients. Funny what he will get on a plane for - not his mother's legacy.

Well it’s 8.00pm here which means it is 1.00pm in LA right now, so he must have had a long lie in if he couldn’t get up on time for the awards 😂

It’s only 8 hours behind normally. Right now it’s 7.

Diana was lied to in the most awful way by Bashir, shown 'evidence' that her own staff were betraying her and reporting on her. William is expressing that her interview took place within that hideous context..
Why did Harry make everyone wait for three hours,? Ridiculous.

AliceOlive · 15/03/2024 20:12

Does her no favors. But then it really isn’t about her, is it?

Not in my opinion.

And the woman who is currently being trashed, harassed, vilified and tortured via SM, after a pretty much unblemished and long record of doing the right thing is Catherine. So why don't you take your own frequently meted out advice, and keep Meghan's name off a thread that isn't talking about her.

I think William should start by not publicly trashing Diana.

I see the Montecino Moaners PR dept is in full swing

He is so selfish that the fact that most people had to get up for work the next day was of no interest.

Diana gave the TV interview because she was fed up of her words being twisted by the press. She wanted to give her views in her own words. The interview should be available. Diana has been silenced. Anyone can claim she said something that she did not.
William was not professional. He should have stayed until his brother had finished speaking. We all know he hates his brother, but act like a professional at a public event.

Perhaps you don’t have to get up in the morning but demanding people stay up half the night is selfish.
You don’t know any of these people and yet you are so critical of them.
How would you like it if your behaviour and family life were scrutinised to such an extent?
Maybe show some compassion.
