If you were William, how would you handle the Diana Legacy Awards from now on?

Would you distance yourself from it, on the grounds that it provides an opportunity for your estranged brother to take a poke at you?

Carry on, grey rocking the antics from Montecito?

Something else I can't think of?

(And before anyone rocks up to tell me to get a life, find something to do, take up a hobby - I'm having a quiet day today where I'll do what I fancy, so go take your own advice.)

I think William cares a great deal more about his mother’s legacy than Harry has shown. So he should just go on as he has. He can’t control his drug addled brother.

The hypocrisy when talking about trashing members of your own family, we know who did that

Truer story never told.

@AliceOlive why do you think it is okay to say awful things about other people? I am referring to your drug addled comment.

Salemforcuddles · 15/03/2024 18:31

If Diana had been here I'm sure none of this would have happened, I think she would have really liked Meghan and been a great support to Kate

ShamedBySiri · 15/03/2024 18:32

Hahaha OMG

Those poor award winners being shunted to a different venue and hanging around for hours for Harry. I'd have gone. MIA after the main event with William.
How inconsiderate to them.

I think truth may hurt, but it is not unkind. Harry has shared a great deal about his drug use. He said it has been helpful to him. So clearly he doesn’t think it’s a negative. Meghan shared that he used her gas while she was in labor with Archie.

I’m extremely anti drugs. I’d tell you why but then probably see it referenced against me later by someone.

Seriously? I wonder why it took so long?

Spot on @QueenOfTheLabyrinth

Salemforcuddles · 15/03/2024 18:42

@BenefitWaffle " William publicly trashing Diana", " looks petty", William will try and paint Kate a crazy and paranoid", " William is not very bright", " it was a slur", " we all know he hates his brother". And you ask Alice about " why do you think it is okay to say awful things about people?"

Prydddan · 15/03/2024 18:43

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 15/03/2024 17:38

I think they should abandon all the ‘awards’ and the reminiscences and the fake grief and just let the poor woman rest in peace.

Her ‘legacy’ is the ex mistress on the throne, and the two dickheads slugging it out in public. Some of the older public still remember her with warmth, but we can do that without hypocritical ‘ceremonies’ and ‘awards’.

Agreed. I'm sure that the two brothers between them could find some other causes doing the same sort of charity work and legally divert the Diana Legacy Awards into.

Of they can not work together to do a sensible length of ceremony, then they should hand it to someone else to do.

Really poor organisation.

I had no idea that Harry had left his appearance so late. That is really disrespectful to the awardees and others attending.

If I were an attendee I'd have felt insulted. If he'd then announced another surprise award, nowt to do with the event I was intending, and his wife had earlier that day announced a personal commercial launch, I'd be feeling very used and unimportant.

Thanks Salem. I know people have different standards about what is ok here.

Roselilly36 · 15/03/2024 18:53

If they can’t be civil they should just abandon the awards, it’s not in the spirit otherwise. As a mum of two adult sons, it would be my worst nightmare if they were estranged like William and Harry. I hope in time their relationship will recover.

I think this is an awful thing to say, and inaccurate. William has called his mother paranoid, apart form that I have no doubt both sons care about their mothers legacy and I think it sucks that members of the public are always pitting them against each other. To do so regarding their mother is pretty low. I am sure she would be horrified at anyone making it into a competition.

Salemforcuddles · 15/03/2024 19:12

@Roselilly36 Yes

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 15/03/2024 19:16

@Prydddan I think harry and his horrible wife somehow have access to the diary! that is why everything seems to be co ordinated. just let harry do them online himself next year and invite the winners to windsor or buck house the next night for his own awards ceremony. he wont have video access in buck house,

Well said.
There might be a rift between them but to make it a competition of who cares most...or least... is crass

@Roussette You don't think any of this is crass?

areyoutheregod · 15/03/2024 19:35

nope, not interested. I have always hated the ownership of Diana's memory by the people who had no connection to her. Turning it into a competition is absolutely wrong and no links about Harrys drug use changes that.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 15/03/2024 19:40

From what has been written in various books, arguably William in particular was emotionally abused by his mother. She deliberately kept the boys from their father when he's arranged to see them. She'd take William off to her bedroom for TV dinners (Harry getting shunted off to the nursery) when they were supposed to be with Charles. She used him as a confident when he was far too young to be burdened by her problems. She should have been trying to shield him and provide some normalcy within her break up with Charles, not reinforcing divisions and weaponizing them. Her affair partner, James Hewitt, was introduced into their lives. William is pretty amazing not to have ended up going down the recreational drugs route his brother has taken, and to have spotted his brother's troubles and encouraged him into therapy. Far from insulting Diana's legacy, he seems to have managed not to be sucked under by it, whilst still respecting her memory and trying to get justice for her treatment at the hands of the monstrous liar, Martin Bashir. Good for him.

I have said before on here many a time, I thought it was wrong for William to label his mother as paranoid because, to me, that means what she was saying will be disbelieved as all of it coming from a place of paranoia, and that is unfair to her.
In my opinion.

Both boys cared deeply for their mother and it's not a competition of who cared the most.
