If they did divorce which I think it's highly unlikely I fear the royal family would be doomed. Charles has cancer... William may well be king sooner than we think. The first in line will still be a child. Harry is not a working royal anymore. The pool of available royals will be really quite small. Dear lord, they might be so desperate they'll have to trot Andy out!

They could've just released a photo from the summer. I'm sure they have before - not a massive royal follower but sure I've seen photos from the summer used for christmas/ mothers day or something.
The deliberate attempt to deceive is always going to cause speculation, and I dont think it's right to pile on and call everyone "weirdos" or the "tin hat brigade" for doing do. If they didn't want to open up the imaginations of lots of people they should have stayed away from telling stories. More people should be annoyed about this and glad if they don't see another photo of them again. They are liars and are treating us with contempt (that's not an ego thing, as previously pointed out) we fund them, they have a right to privacy but shouldn't lie!

If they don’t announce their engagements in advance then how on earth do they get arranged, press coverage and so on? I thought the circular thing detailed what they’re up to but I wouldn’t even know where to look for it.

Other RF families in Europe manage fine.

In the Netherlands, I think only the King and Queen are working royals.

In Spain, only Felipe and Letizia are working royals. Their daughters also carry out some engagements.

The only positive of the whole Kategate is that I think it will force Kate and William to work more.

They've always taken these long breaks that could even last a month when their kids are on school breaks.

It won't be possible from now on because they'll be under a microscope and people will automatically believe that something is wrong if they're not seen for a long period of time

Surely there would be something? Anything? I did a search for the 6 weeks or so after Easter. It all feels a bit unprofessional - if the King is too unwell for engagements they need to announce he’s on a hiatus until he feels well again. Clear, direct communication would solve all of this, rather than lofty ambiguity.

They don't typically announce stuff in advance any more.

And they have very clearly said that Charles will be stepping back from most public engagements for now, but still doing the official bits behind the scenes.

Just looked at that link of royal engagements and my gosh Princess Anne really does do the heavy lifting for that family doesn't she. Fair play to her.

Not announcing in advance is a way to try and hide how little they do.

I think she is too but even steely people have their limits. And she’s now middle aged, has 3 children, has spent most of her adult life being royal or living according to being a future royal, maybe she’s reached the ‘fuck this shit’ stage so many women do on here at similar stages in life.

@Comedycook The older Royals used to do a lot of engagements. The younger Royals do not. Has the world collapsed? Have you even seen any negative impact from this?

Well yes, probably. But the lack of future engagements doesn't tell us anything about the current fiasco, except possibly the trooping the colour thing.
