Why "that picture" was killed.

CurlewKate · 13/03/2024 13:28

Photo agencies can only accept pictures that represent "a moment in time." The picture can be tidied up, but can only be a single image. "That picture" was a composite, or a montage, so didn't represent a single moment in time. This rule applies even to merging images from the same shoot.

Obviously if the picture had been simply posted by them on their Instagram feed, it would have been fine. But it wasn't. It went to the agencies with the intention of syndicating it world wide, so not fine. HTH.

🤣🤣🤣🤣love it.

@StickyWickets 🤣🤣

CurlewKate · 13/03/2024 18:53

How very strange some of the responses on here are! I assume they would be less strange if they were comprehensible.

You misinterpreted another poster who was adding to the OP's point. That's all.

Erm, tell us, how do you know?

I’m confused is CurlewKate the same as WhatAreThey?

The plot thickens

Turtlerussell · 13/03/2024 19:06

StickyWickets · 13/03/2024 18:10

Yes that would be nice if they could pop back, perhaps we could ask them to change the title to 'why 'This Thread' was killed'😂

😂

WhatAreThey · 13/03/2024 14:02

Forgot to add that they ten lied that it was taken last week to deceive the public into believing they're seeing a recent photo.
If anyone tried to deceive their employer in this way they'll be sacked!

Are you the OP with a name change?

‘Forgot to add’ makes it sound like you had posted previously on this thread?

Kedece · 13/03/2024 19:16

CurlewKate · 13/03/2024 16:51

@Kedece I made this a separate thread because it actually has useful
Information in it which I thought people might find helpful. Feel completely free not to click on it!

Don't see a single new or useful thing on your post. And even if there was one of the dozens of other threads would have been just as suitable

God help us if every single person who thinks they have something new to add starts a new thread

Nope.

@Kedece "Don't see a single new or useful thing on your post."

Every other thread is full of people saying "But I don't understand why this picture was killed- there are tons of photoshopped pictures-and it's just an informal family snap."

I simply explained why this particular picture was different.

That’s certainly how I read it -😵‍💫

Maybe@WhatAreThey will be along shortly to clarify?

Nopesters.

TheDarkHouse · 14/03/2024 15:43

What was the extent of the editing? Was it not a photo at all?

AutumnCrow · 14/03/2024 15:56

I’m just coming on these threads now to see if Liz Jones is back

'Every other thread is full of people saying "But I don't understand why this picture was killed- there are tons of photoshopped pictures-and it's just an informal family snap." I simply explained why this particular picture was different.'

But again, as I've said on the other photo saga threads, so what??

There wasn't any malicious intent. It wasn't an official event where vips were airbrushed in or out. It was a family snap. I cannot believe anyone even the very important news agencies give a rat's ass about such irrelevant crap as cuffs plants and fingers. It was a composite!!!. So fucking what.

No it was a cardboard cut out of Kate who is on her hols in the Bahamas and the kids are imposters with high street cardis on and just don't mention that tree Shock.

fratellia · 14/03/2024 16:40

What about the photographs that were sometimes released of the Queen with all of the great-children? I always assumed they HAD to be multiple photos stitched together because of how perfectly placed everyone was despite the ages and number of children.

Journalistic standards. You can't carry a news story illustrated by a made up picture that is pretending to be a real photo depicting that news.

The photo wasn't just touched up, it was altered so much it was no longer a reliable illustration of the news story that accompanied it.

I meant was it a collage of collective photos so not a photo but a mocked up collection of pictures.

CurlewKate · 14/03/2024 18:34

@Janiie "But again, as I've said on the other photo saga threads, so what??

Because there have to be some journalistic standards. And if a picture goes to an agency and is syndicated round the world it is news. It would have been absolutely fine if the picture had been published on the Wales' instagram. But syndicating it in this way made it officially news, so has to adhere to higher standards. You can think it's daft- but it's fact.

OP posts:
CurlewKate · 14/03/2024 18:38

@fratellia "What about the photographs that were sometimes released of the Queen with all of the great-children?"
Either they were personal pictures and therefore it's OK to photoshop them OR the photographer took nine million pictures and one of them managed to get everyone looking in the right direction.

OP posts:
AliceOlive · 14/03/2024 18:38

They could have simply written that the Wales released this photo and put it on their instagram. The “journalistic standards” thing is something they obviously drummed up to get clicks and create news.

Janiie · 14/03/2024 18:48

'But syndicating it in this way made it officially news, so has to adhere to higher standards. You can think it's daft- but it's fact.'

News agencies should use their common sense whilst dramatically applying their rules. There wasn't any dodgy intent here. They have possibly done the Wales a favour by removing any conspiracy theories that they are in cahoots with the media. W&K have handled this with massve restraint and dignity, giving the whole stupid circus minimum of attention comment wise.

CurlewKate · 14/03/2024 19:03

The rules are always applied, not just in this case. The Wales' should have not tried to syndicate a composite picture. They should have just posted on their Instagram.

OP posts:
CurlewKate · 14/03/2024 19:07

@Janiie It wasn't up to the agencies to determine whether there was dodgy intent here. Once they start making value judgements, the system collapses.
