Photography hobbyists and aficionados unite.

Welcome to the thread where you can display and discuss some of the most iconic photos captured by some of the most talented photographers.

These aren't your average Instagram photos. Oh no. These are the ones that live in your head rent free. The Marie Kondo of photos that spark joy. Where everything in the photo is perfection.

This thread is meant to be fun, light-hearted, and showcase the talents of those behind the lens.

Please do not derail, and do not use this thread to be snarky or have a dig about subjects you don't like, or to other posters. If you cannot keep in the spirit of the thread, then please don't participate or spoil it for others.

@YetMoreNewBeginnings Ooh Princess Mary, later Countess of Harewood, is my royal claim to fame!

As a child, we were at a summer fete at Harewood House and there was a tombola. The nice lady both selling tickets and cranking the handle asked me if I would like a go and then she helped me stick my hand right in to pull out a ticket!
I had no idea who she was but my mum was very quick to tell me afterwards that it was the Princess Royal. I was most impressed!!

I've seen pictures of her where there's more than a resemblance to Princess Anne, which is quite fitting really.

The Queen in in a very similar dress to Diana’s.

Seeing photos of Charlene on her wedding day always breaks my heart. She looked so sad the entire time.

I hope she's okay

She did look sad - it broke my heart, too.

Apparently she tried to do a runner, but was stopped, poor girl.

Just love this
maybe because I love the dress

But where on earth did the rogue extra foot come from @Samcro ?!?!?

PinkTonic · 07/03/2024 11:15

I do remember her reaction to the Andrew/Koo Stark romance..

Ooh that did set the cat among the pigeons!

On the Diana strapless black frock I remember some awful snobbish commenter writing something about not wearing strapless to the opera as ‘one looks like one’s sitting in a hip bath’. Horrible, she was so young and that was her first public evening out at a posh do after her engagement. Nothing changes much, only now we have social media as well.

Some beautiful photos here, thanks to all the people who have found and shared them.

MrsMitford3 · 07/03/2024 11:17

Love these of the Queen and Prince Phillip. She looks so happy. And Princess Margaret stunning

I'd prefer it to stay here because I'm not on Pinterest (tried it on a friend's recommendation, but the amount of emails!) or IG.
Does it cause you a problem if it's on MN?

Thanks so much @pipsfromthefuture what a great thread.

This one is cute, the Queen and the 3 heirs. The video of it is funny, as George is mixing furiously the Queen backs away quickly in case she gets splattered,

Possibly my favourite ever royal portrait. Stunning.

I also liked the less formal photos of Princess Anne at about 20. Her wedding dress, 1st one, is still my favourite of the royal wedding dresses.

This one always makes me sad as I just imagine if my mum had to sit alone at my dad's funeral.

My Dad had to sit alone at my mum's funeral - he was 91 and died himself a month later. We were only allowed ten people and no singing and no wake - had to take him straight back to the convalescent home and he didn't understand why I couldn't go in with him. He thought I wasn't bothered about him any more. Absolutely heartbreaking. His funeral was the same. Such dreadful times.

Sorry, didn't mean to bring the thread down - I am really enjoying it. (Mum would have liked it too.)

Same. The photos are great though and I’m enjoying looking at them, there’s quite a few I’ve never seen.

I think the Harry and Meghan one in the rain is fabulous.

The Queen sitting on her own at the funeral always makes me feel sad. It wasn’t very long ago really but at the same time, covid seems a distant memory now.

Kate does do funerals well as a pp said. She obviously suits black but obviously she’s usually in something brighter.

And Charles looking quite hot...who knew! 🤣

Stories of Charles in his Navy days were very interesting!

Why? You got rules? Can we not have a pic thread?

I love that one of the late Queen with the Wessex children and the great grandchildren, especially little Mia picking up Granny's handbag!

According to Mia's father it was more a case of giving her something to keep her still!

Laiste · 07/03/2024 11:38

My mum had 2 up close brushes with royalty.
In 1960, Princess Margaret married Antony Armstrong-Jones at Westminster Abby. My mother was one of the florists who did the flowers for the pew ends, and also the bridesmaid's bouquets. One of the bridesmaids was Princess Anne. On rehearsal day, the day before the wedding, mum was down on the floor fiddling with the pew end flowers and young Princess Anne ran up and asked her to help her with one of her socks which was all twisted. Which mum did 🙂(not sure which one is Anne in this photo)

You don’t have to open the thread if you don’t like it, it’s not a Royal command…..

If the royal forum can have a thread about cheese and chit chat I can’t see why a thread about royal photos is remotely an issue?

themessygarden · 07/03/2024 11:39

I really hope they do another home video documentary of the family get togethers at Balmoral, with the grandkids and great grandkids, what an amazing location for a big family holiday, especially for the young ones. The Jubilee documentary of the Queens home videos showed how idyllic the Balmoral estate is.

minou123 · 06/03/2024 21:27

There's a documentary somewhere about this.
It's very funny.

Especially as Princess Anne.waa a guest a couple episodes later.

Emlyn Hughes kept getting the etiquette wrong, calling her 'mate' and trying to hug her everytime they got a question right.
Princess Anne loved every minute.

Didn't she threaten to handbag him???

Yes, young Princess Anne looked very like her great aunt when she was young.

I also think there’s a resemblance to Lady Louise in this photo of Princess Mary.

I’m not m huge fan of Margaret but she sure was photogenic. Meghan is too. I prefer the candid pictures generally (the Armstrong-Jones’ ones are exceptions).

Being married to a very talented photographer probably helped.

Grace Kelly's wedding

King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain's wedding

Felipe and Letizia meeting for the first time when she was a journalist

Had Felipe and Leticia been dating secretly by the time this shot came about? I have a vague memory of reading that!
