Photography hobbyists and aficionados unite.

Welcome to the thread where you can display and discuss some of the most iconic photos captured by some of the most talented photographers.

These aren't your average Instagram photos. Oh no. These are the ones that live in your head rent free. The Marie Kondo of photos that spark joy. Where everything in the photo is perfection.

This thread is meant to be fun, light-hearted, and showcase the talents of those behind the lens.

Please do not derail, and do not use this thread to be snarky or have a dig about subjects you don't like, or to other posters. If you cannot keep in the spirit of the thread, then please don't participate or spoil it for others.

Some absolutely stunning photos here, especially the candid ones

Like a modern day Greek goddess.

There is no one who comes close to her for looks, class and style. She will make a marvellous queen.

EconomyClassRockstar · 07/03/2024 02:31

The Mario Testino shots of Diana are my all time faves. She looks iconic and relevant even now. I also absolutely love the photo of Anne and Phillip (first page) where she looks so free and utterly beautiful, so far from her carefully crafted public image. This whole thread is making me feel slightly sad as the world really did lose something amazing when the Queen died. And I'm a Republican.

EconomyClassRockstar · 07/03/2024 02:33

Which is kind of ironic as I live in the US and am a registered Democrat 😁

Princess Fawzia of Egypt - first wife of Reza Shah

Very like Vivienne Leigh

@pipsfromthefuture Thanks for a lovely thread! I enjoyed the photos so much.❤

Like a modern day Greek goddess.

with bags under her eyes & the jowl lines everybody threatend to boycott the painter who's portrait she sat for because "she's far more beautiful then that"

At least it's realistic rather then all the photoshopped images like the funeral ones posted earlier & I do like her head piece!

The doomed Romanov family, murdered in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution. The Romanov sisters were the Princess Dianas of their day, constantly photographed.

My favourite Princess Margaret one.

My favourite too!

Josette77 · 07/03/2024 05:09

I've always loved pictures of these two together. 💝

Josette77 · 07/03/2024 05:11

She really is a beautiful woman. I think what makes her really stand out though is her natural warmth. You can't fake that and it makes her quite charming.

Too many of the photos in this thread are from the BRF (which is understandable). They are lovely photos but not iconic.

Photographs need to be tested against time, and being recognised all over the world to get the "icon" label.

IMO, only a few get to that status - two or three from Diana, Queen Elizabeth and Charles.

rossogingerale · 07/03/2024 06:24

I was a little girl when Charles married Diana and my DN had lots of books on the royals and especially the royal wedding. This picture is my favourite. I used to get the books out each time we visited her and was just fascinated by this image.

Fast forward to a milestone birthday and I got given tickets to Buckingham Palace, I didn't realise the picture gallery was included in the tour, well I walked in and looked up and realised where i was and I cried, never dreamed I would be stood there myself one day.

Lovely thread, @pipsfromthefuture , I've enjoyed these pictures. I really like the less formal ones, and the ones with grandchildren and great grandchildren. So nice.

Princess Eugenie on her wedding. I think this is a perfect shot.

This may be my last of the photos from the BRF, I want to mix it up and find more iconic photos of royals outside the UK lol. (Style and Beauty people where are you??!)

Eugenie chose the low cut dress because she wanted to show the scar on her back from the surgery she had to correct scoliosis, which must have been encouraging to others with scarring.

Fabulous photos

The first time.i went to the National Gallery and saw this at age 10 I guess, I was just so completely gobsmacked and I froze. The power of it still makes me stop in the gallery.

Yes! I had exactly the same experience as a child seeing that painting.

BirthdayRainbow · 07/03/2024 07:13

Such lovely photos and some I've never seen before. Thank you.

AnnunciataM · 07/03/2024 07:19

Kate is a very attractive woman but a goddess? Really? I don’t think she’s that different from a lot of the wealthy and well-groomed women I’ve seen around Kensington or Sloane Square.

I’m not sure the majority of these images qualify as “iconic”. They’re nice photos but apart from the 50s portraits of the late Queen and Princess Margaret or the Testino photos of Diana, I don’t think they’re exactly iconic.

Edited

I think it’s a lovely thread with a range of both iconic photos and photos that posters have included just because they personally like them. There are regal ones and amusing ones. The word “iconic” has been loosely interpreted but so what?

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 07/03/2024 07:23

The one of H&M in the rain I think is iconic. It’s fantastic and I’m not a great fan of theirs!!

Loved the one of Grace Kelly as well beautiful. Actually at her wedding so Princess Grace.

BeverlyHills90210 · 07/03/2024 07:26

Love this one.

Yes, I always think she looks kind of gormless in an irreproachably well-groomed kind of way. It might just be her smile, though.

I think people are interpreting ‘iconic’ differently. For some people, that would only refer to very strikingly well-composed, famous photos, for others, it’s the subjects that make them ‘iconic’, so candid snaps of the RF smiling or having a barbecue counts..

To kick off this thread, I'll post this iconic photo taken by Samir Hussein, which started a lot of great discussion on another thread:

I don't care for this pair at all, but I have to admit that this photograph is almost magical - colour, composition - everything is just right.

Loving the Princess Margaret ones, too - she was such a beautiful woman.

Willmafrockfit · 07/03/2024 07:38

i love these photos, apart from the ladies in blue, elizabeth margaret and queen mother,
