Why is Harry a saluting if he is an ordinary citizen?

I know there are some military experts on here. Why would he be saluting these sailors? Is it because he was once in the Army? He's not in military uniform. What's the deal here?

I didn’t say posters here were fawning. I said he put it on his fake royal website for his supporters to fawn over. You are welcome.

See, I’m not the one frothing. Just sharing my opinion that it makes him look foolish to do these fake photo ops.

Seriously is this the only thing that the anti brigade could come up with today to hate him for?

Yup!

@AliceOlive

  1. I didn't realise it was 2 years old until someone else pointed it out.
  2. All I wanted to do was correct factual inaccuracies.

There is an amazing amount of legal work that goes on which most of us never think about. In war, for instance, they manage all the paperwork and ensure our military actions are properly authorized and within the law. Never thought about paperwork at war!

@AliceOlive And no, I don't think I've ever come to Harry's defence before. I have come to Meghan's occasionally when the appalling racist, misogynist attacks were particularly egregious.

As have I. In fact, I’ve defended both of them many times against all kinds of comments even relatively minor ones. I’m not someone who goes about bashing them and don’t think this is a case of bashing at all. It’s just about how things are done and not done.

IAmtheVampiresWife · 28/02/2024 21:29

@pipsfromthefuture sorry this post doesn't suit your narrative. The devil is in the details. Every man needs a blind eye and a deaf ear, so when people applaud, you'll only hear half of it, and when people salute, you'll only see part of it.

I didn’t know either. I don’t remember seeing this before now.

But you did not offer any actual facts. You asked because you didn’t know. I knew a bit then got a very detailed explanation from someone that does know because it was their actual job for quite a long time to know.

Yup!

You see hate where someone else cares about protocol and traditions do their own military? Our military service men earn that salute and the right to receive it.

You actually think Americans want to see our military saluting anyone that didn’t earn it by serving here?

MissTrip82 · 29/02/2024 08:44

One if the most moving things I’ve been involved in was a ceremony for an entombment of an unknown soldier at which veterans in their 90s all saluted. These were survivors of WWI (obviously some time ago).

No hats. No current military rank.

I’m very surprised so many would think they were in the wrong.

CurlewKate · 29/02/2024 09:53

@AliceOlive -I don't understand. Are you saying that H is being disrespectful by following US protocol at a ceremony for the people who died at Pearl Harbour? Disrespectful to who? The US fallen? The British Army?

There are specific laws around this and I posted a link related to that above.

Show us the US regulations describing the protocol he’s following if you believe it exists. The rules around saluting appropriately are codified.

If you want to say “who cares” about US military protocol, that is an opinion that makes sense for you. And I think that’s what probably really how you feel.

Last weekend my DH and I drove an hour to a small cemetery in a country town. We went to visit the grave of a WW2 veteran. My husband just walked in the room a few minutes ago with the book he is currently reading a book written by this American hero. We have no connection to him other than that, but he wanted to make this journey to pay his respects.

I don’t expect you to understand why I care about Harry using our country’s military as a photo op.

jeffgoldblum · 29/02/2024 13:19

I can understand @AliceOlive , it's your country and anyone who has forces backgrounds, be it spouse or actual service remain proud and protective of the sacrifices and honour.

Absolutely. I also keep thinking “Linked not Ranked” while reading this thread and laughing. I wonder how that mindset fits in with Harry and his military background.

jeffgoldblum · 29/02/2024 13:31

I will be jumped on for this but 🤷‍♀️, anyone with first hand knowledge knows that his background is just that!!
He was never close enough for any harm to come to him.
He was protected ( as a member of the royal family should be) by the soldiers around him
And kept far enough from any danger that it was never likely that anything would ever happen.

jeffgoldblum · 29/02/2024 13:33

Where as my dh actually was bombed and woke up surrounded by rubble!
Yes he slept through an attack!

That was my favourite TV programme many years ago. David James Elliot in military uniform? Sigh.

As you were.

jeffgoldblum · 29/02/2024 13:39

@GrouchyKiwi 🤣👍

I don't think that for a second. But US veterans do salute while in civvies. Brits don't. I can't see any problem with a veteran adopting the protocol of the the country they are in.

I posted a link showing that US veterans may salute the flag or the anthem.

You have not posted any evidence at all.

I think you are fine with Harry using another country’s military to bolster his ego. I’m not.

I wouldn’t like to see Hunter Biden (or any American civilian) saluted by your forces or over bowed to by your citizens, either. That’s the difference between us.

That uniform. It had nothing to do with my initial attraction to DH. I’m sticking to that. 🤣🤣🤣

Nice resource material. It's from ROTC but seems well sourced.
