Why is Harry a saluting if he is an ordinary citizen?

I know there are some military experts on here. Why would he be saluting these sailors? Is it because he was once in the Army? He's not in military uniform. What's the deal here?

Retired American navy officer here. It's a US salute and American veterans are allowed to salute out of uniform. I do it every time I go to an American football game when the National Anthem is played, and I am dressed very casually then.

Fair enough. I thought the US services do salute out of uniform and this would be a respect to fallen comrades situation.

Personally, I'd recommend finding the information out on your own.

Clearly the officers there saluting Harry, and Harry returning it, are the ones who actually know what they're doing.

As I highly doubt they'd being making a "mockery" of themselves.

Thank you for your service.

I presume you are talking about saluting the American flag?

@pipsfromthefuture "Personally, I'd recommend finding the information out on your own."

I'm right. Wasn't me talked about "mockery."

AliceOlive · 28/02/2024 17:53

Yes, that was me and it's my opinion. I think it's a mockery.

Well, if that's how you feel about the US system....

No, I know you were! Sorry, I know it wasnt you, I was just stating it was ridiculous for others posters to suggest it was a mockery or it was ridiculous on Harry's part :)

On Harry’s part it’s a bit embarrassing that he’s using the photo on Sussex.com.

But it’s designed by a Canadian company at the behest of two people who surely don’t know any better and clearly need content so not that surprising.

Whatever he needs to prop himself up. Surprised he isn’t prancing around the US in the uniform they stopped allowing him to wear over in the UK.

I'm not sure why it would be embarrassing for Harry, or what the website being designed by Canadians have to do with...anything at all. Nor what the protocols in the UK have to do with the US.

What a mess of a post 😂

Just because you don’t understand something…. Which is what this entire thread is about.

pipsfromthefuture · 28/02/2024 19:40

Ok, so nothing at all.

Yes, Harry and his supporters understanding of “nothing at all” with respect to US military protocol. Thus posting a ridiculous photo on their fake royal website for people to fawn over.

CurlewKate · 28/02/2024 20:01

I am a devout Republican and would like to see them all up against a wall. But criticising H for this is just batshit. Particularly as it happened 2 years ago!!

Are you then suggesting that the US Navy are "his supporters" as well, and "know nothing at all" as they were the ones saluting him?

Are you seriously suggesting you understand the military protocol more than the US Navy and the actual Army Officials who organized his tour?

Posters correcting your incorrect interpretation, including a former vet, does not make them "his supporters" or mean they're "fawning".

Funnily enough, I don't see fawning over Harry's photo in this thread, but certainly a lot of frothing over a photo, from you.

You sure have a different interpretation of everything being said on this thread. I’m not seeing sense in us discussing it any more deeply. You have twisted it quite enough.

I think someone has to be very committed to Harry if they can’t fathom how foolish this looks to people here in the US.

I’ve yet to see a “republican” on this board who doesn’t come to Harry’s defense incessantly.

You are here discussing this two year old topic as well. As engaged in what you call “batshit” as anyone else posting.

Do people having opinions that differ from yours really bother you that much?

Yes quite. Once someone uses "supporters" and "fawning" when being corrected, there's no sense in discussing it further.

Like I said, a mess of a post.

“frothing” sure rolled off your finger tips easily. 😁

AliceOlive · 28/02/2024 21:09

Corrected. 🤣🤣🤣

I’ve got source material in my house about military protocol, dear pips. And you? Keep telling yourself I’m wrong, but that doesn’t make it so.

It did. As you were having a bit of a froth. Meanwhile there was little fawning in this thread from posters as you claimed

Spirallingdownwards · 28/02/2024 21:14

Seriously is this the only thing that the anti brigade could come up with today to hate him for?
