there could be any number of things that arise in a life

Oh FGS I read that as things that ARSE in a life.

This thread's getting to you Grin

Yes I would have thought it was Thomas Kingston dying as well.

Yet Thomas Kingston's parents in law were able to attend........?

EdithWeston · 27/02/2024 21:08

sobeyondthehills · 27/02/2024 21:04

Would it not be Thomas Kingston dying?

Discussed at length earlier in the thread

It's unlikely that William could not have waited an hour or so before going to see his second-cousin-once-removed. Or that he was more important to her at this time than her parents ((who were there). And also unlikely that he would have cancelled only an hour in advance when the death took place on Sunday and there was all day yesterday to make new arrangements

Yes I know, I'm am just in stitches at some of the comments, and can't help throwing out a few of my own.

Now I'm sorry if anyone is ill or anything, but I haven't laughed as much in a while, and that's a good thing.

Wishitsnows · 27/02/2024 21:09

I spent most of my Teams calls today looking out the window and not seen PW drive back this way but may have missed it and he could go other routes!

EdithWeston · 27/02/2024 21:09

CarrotOfPeace · 27/02/2024 21:06

I did think maybe a dental emergency

Yes, that might stop him from enunciating clearly!

LadyWithLapdog · 27/02/2024 20:33

I think we’ve come full circle to this conclusion. From now on to be entered into royal annals as this.

Glad I called it right early on 😁

CathyorClaire · 27/02/2024 21:11

What on earth is the process of elimination that so many people keep arriving at 'it must be the shits then'?

This is not just elimination. It's royal elimination 🤓

AutumnCrow · 27/02/2024 21:11

So the current contenders are:

Matrimonial
Legal / Constitutional
Familial (Child)
Familial (Flounce)
Familial (Comforting)
Dental
Bottom Volcano Action

I'm not quite sure where Occam's Razor is taking me on this one.

Dabralor · 27/02/2024 21:12

If he did get the shits this morning, 45 mins before the start of a big memorial service, it would be extraordinarily bad luck. Hmmmm.

Funny how other statespeople generally manage to avoid these kinds of things.

It's a good thing he's all hands to the tilt the rest of the time. Keep up all the good work William! 🙄

Fother · 27/02/2024 21:14

Must have been the prawns.

Quizine · 27/02/2024 21:14

I'm not quite sure where Occam's Razor is taking me on this one.

Don't! That razor could get quite close to his Crown Jewels.

SomersetTart · 27/02/2024 21:14

Bringtheweatherwithyou · 27/02/2024 21:03

Don't be silly. His reputation is workshy and he's certainly living up to it.

Workshy? Military career, piloting search and rescue helicopters, dozens of charities, 172 royal appointments in 2023.

SuperSange · 27/02/2024 21:15

Thing is, with the shits, you can't go spreading it about. Within the week, once it had spread throughout the congregation, the Sun would have a list of 'who's has the shits and who's next?
Imagine the shame. Spreader of the shits throughout the royal families of Europe. They'd be falling like ninepins.

You've missed quite a few which were covered earlier, this list would combine well with that one. I can't remember everything, but it definitely included gerbils, an Asda delivery and broken appliances.

InstrumentsofTorture · 27/02/2024 21:17

I'm torn.

On the one hand, it can't be the shits because @Wishitsnows saw him driving away from home - surely he'd be hotfooting it to his own nearby toilet.

On the other hand, it must be the shits because I too have succumbed to them today, and I live near Windsor <conclusive>

SomersetTart · 27/02/2024 21:18

If we had a President, there would not be a million or so family members hanging on and similar millions of castles, manor houses, hunting lodges, estates, and Duchies to administer either.

Millions?

Dabralor · 27/02/2024 21:19

SomersetTart · 27/02/2024 21:14

The thing is, 172 royal appointments isn't that much, really, especially when some of them are phone calls or just fancy lunch parties.

If you think about all the work things you do over the course of a year, it's probably hundreds of times this.

William might work really hard, but those numbers don't prove it. He must have lots of other duchy of Cornwall business to fill his time, though.

Outthedoor24 · 27/02/2024 21:19

OK process of elimination.
Has to have been last minute and urgent.

So kids, but they might officially have one nanny they must have a backup plan that doesn't involve granny.
So unlikely to be a kid issue unless it was serious/ involving hospital care, hospital care would be announced.

So it has to be something to do with him personally, the shits, mental breakdown or he fell over his own banana feet

Delatron · 27/02/2024 21:19

I don’t think I he was ill. Shits or anything else. Because it would have been far preferable for the press release to say he was ill (Covid/virus whatever) than ‘personal reasons’ which invites such speculation.. he also would not be driving away from his home in a car with the shits.

Something made him pull out at the very last minute. I do wonder if the stress of an ill father/ill wife is getting to him. He must have known all the eyes of the country would have been on him during this reading. Maybe he didn’t feel up to it - so mental health reasons.

SomersetTart · 27/02/2024 21:14

That is three appointments a week - bearing in mind some of these appointments are phonecalls, BAFTA attendances, tennis matches.............and the same as Prince Richard whoever he is............

.I'd love a full breakdown including the times involved.

Meanwhile Anne has 457?

Do yourself a favour and stop swallowing the royal PR shite.

This is horrible - and I've only read the first few pages and got depressed

If anyone - male or female came on Mumsnet and said I didn't go to my God fathers funeral today - I just cant cope. My mum died when I was a kid, My Gran died last year and I loved her so much, my dad has cancer, I'm estranged from my brother and his wife, my wife has had major surgery and been really ill with it and the children are upset about it, and everyone thinks my uncle is an abuser... I can't take any more, I just can't do it

How many of you would tell them they were going to do a shit job in their future career (or just that they had the shits?) How many of you would tell them that it's amusing?

OK his family are meant to represent stability but blimey have some compassion

.
