Does anyone else think that Kate has had a mental health breakdown and is recovering from that, rather than the ambiguous 'abdominal surgery'

No

I wonder if it’s to do with the death of Thomas Kensington in the news

No. Queen is an inherited birth title to a royal born. Commoner Marriage to a king the wife is queen consort. This is often shortened colloquially to queen, but it is actually queen consort
I’m replying to @MrsDanversGlidesAgain and agreeing with @HussyWillow and @CurlewKate

The title is no different - it remains HM The Queen regardless.

The role and constitutional position is different depending on if she’s a Queen regnant or Queen consort.

Given that Prince and Princess Michael turned up despite the loss of their son-in-law I hope that William had a very good reason for dropping out at the last minute.

True. But it was obvious that attendance was important for the Kents, especially considering that Princess Alexandra attended, as well as the Duke. Their mother was Princess Marina of Greece, so they have a close connection to the former RF of Greece.

Agree all you like, you're mistaken. Queen Regnant, i.e queen by right of descent - that was the late queen. Queen consort - wife of the king - that's Camilla. Like it was Caroline and Charlotte and Alexandra and Mary and Elizabeth. All married to kings, all queen consorts.

Wonder will POW and Andrew attend the late Tom K's funeral? He was so young and his death so sudden, yet his parents in law attended today. If the reason for POW's absence today is trivial, he has lost all my respect now.

But we will probably never know.

There’s no chance the sad death of Tom Kingston on Sunday evening is why William pulled out an hour before the memorial service this morning.

He's really going down in my estimation for the level of engagements he does.

He may have wanted to be a support for his cousin.

If you mean the death of Gabriella's husband the press are saying it is not why William pulled out.

Some people are the word ‘Royal’ and become raging arseholes with no sense of human decency.

Says more about them than it does about the people they are sniping at.

Gabrielle Windaor's husband has died at 45, so may be related to that?

Queen consort isn’t same designation as queen, its title acquired via marriage.

His parents in law were there though so I doubt it.

Well if her parents weren't there, maybe she needed someone else for support. I would have expected them to stay away tbh.

Why do you say that?

Because if that was his reason he’d have pulled out in a timely manner yesterday. Not an hour before.

Plus Gabriella’s parents were there today so no need for her second cousin to miss out when they managed.

Yes, that's what I'm saying. You're agreeing with me. Queen Consort or Queen Regnant are both queens, one by right of inheritance, one by marriage.

I'm sad to say that I've been pretty disappointed in William not stepping up.
Sure, his wife is in recovery from a serious procedure.
His dad is newly diagnosed with cancer.
Both overwhelming in any family.
But this is not an 'ordinary' family.
Their overriding reason for being is to provide stability amongst the chaos.
I'm a royalist but they are failing badly.
I cannot imagine a scenario under our last monarch where she ever encouraged so much rumour and gossip.
It's not good optics for the future.
There's lots to be said of 'say nothing' but in todays world that vacuum will undoubtedly be filled.
Usually with lies and half truths.
I hope it's something innocuous.

The last monarch was the woman whose motto was "Never complain, never explain", and there were several times during her reign when that approach nearly ran the good ship Battenburg Saxe Coburg Gotha onto the rocks.

But there daughter has lost her husband. I would expect William to find putting role first in that situation quite ridiculous.

EchoChamber · 27/02/2024 18:41

The reason will either feeling seriously unwell or something very dramatic has happened that we are not being told about.
It won’t be anything trivial.

Why is Andrews ex wife being trotted out all the time now ? It’s ludicrous.

The Yorks are pretty close to the Greeks , Beatrice and family were skiing with the current kings children last week . Andrew is named after the ex kings uncle and I think is godfather to one of his children etc etc . Sarah is friends with Maria Chantal in her own right .

the Greek government actually think it is pretty offensive that they use their titles because they were disposed and exiled years ago .

Also I thought Anne let the British royals in and Andrew had to wait for her .

I thought it was odd Kate was mentioned. It's a Tues, an hour before the event approx 9.30 when he cancelled.. Any number of things could have happened that didn't need Kate being dragged into it..
Eg one of the kids could have had an accident in school & he had to rush,
He could have a bad dose of the shits etc

Just off that he cancelled less than an hour beforehand which makes me think there is a lot more going on in the house of Windsor...

They made the statement about Kate so there wouldn't be speculation that he canceled as a result of her being at death's door.
