Personally I suspect there have been some serious security concerns/threat. Which would explain why both Charles and William have been spotted leaving Windsor.
I doubt we will ever know.

CurlewKate · 27/02/2024 16:01

@EchoChamber "No one on this thread has thought about whether Charles has taken a turn for the worst. Surely that’s the obvious one?"

Presumably Camilla would have pulled out of the service if that was the case?

His wife was there

Ah yes, good point.

LadyEloise1 · 27/02/2024 16:02

@MaggieFS I know it was a typo but I had to laugh at "..... aware they love separately...." re Juan Carlos and Sofia. How true on his behalf anyway.
Nasty man.

Yes they have speculated . If Charles had taken a turn Camilla would not be on attendance. I presume she is his next of kin.

He did have to wait at the chapel door for her to enter first.

they usually enter from most junior to most senior, culminating in King/Queen. Ie, the longer you have to sit around waiting in your seat, the more junior you are.

They often dance around that with Andrew, but I agree with the puffed up walrus verdict - I haven't seen this particular one but in the past, where William et al aren't there, he has thoroughly enjoyed being the most senior royal and able to enter immediately prior to the King/Queen or whatever.

Like what?

Harry and Meghan had credible security threats (source: MI5). They didn't do anything about those

CurlewKate · 27/02/2024 16:03

Surely if it was a security threat the whole thing would have been cancelled?

Thefirstonewastaken · 27/02/2024 16:04

Lame Polo pony and he’s having to wait in for the vet IMO

LadyWithLapdog · 27/02/2024 16:04

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain why so serious? I’m just playing along with the silliness. Here’s another one: Mr Gerbil had escaped again and run under the floorboards. Kate is too scared of it and the gerbil must be found before the kids come back from school.

FrancisSeaton · 27/02/2024 16:04

Interesting theories but I can't see Kate ever divorcing and sacking off the idea of being the queen. Its basically all she's ever dreamt about and I can't see her leaving even if she was fully aware Willy was dipping little Willy elsewhere

Harry and Meghan are not that close to the line of succession.
If you remove the two key targets the planned threat ceases to happen.

Yeah if Kate was seriously unwell, her family wouldn't be on holiday. This is a service for his godmother. There's really no reason to skip it

I think she’s got Crohns and has had to have part of her bowel removed hence the long recovery period. She’s always been slim but seems to have got thinner and thinner over the last few years.

According to the papers William has at least 90 household staff. Footmen and doormen, chauffeurs, cleaners, laudrymen, butlers, personal assistants, garners, cooks, maids, secretaries etc. He's paid millions to show up for social events. Even celebrities work hard to earn their status before being invited to such events.
The tax payers pay for him, Kate etc and should be informed about how they're spending their time especially when they don't show up in spite of all the clothing allowance, cars, chauffeurs, stylists etc paid for by poor commoners.

Katie's sister and mum are busy holidaying and having a grand time. Showing up at a service is not work.

William is L-A-Z-Y and E-N-T-T-I-T-L-E-D. He's happy to take the money, pay no taxes but the public must not ask questions while he directs his press off to leak stories about the better brother. Horrid!

Actually, no. I've read multiple reports that relatively speaking, W&C have a relatively small household and travel with a relatively small number of staff. Probably more now that they are Prince and Princess of Wales.

Obviously, it's relative - I have a cleaner once a fortnight as my "staff" and a part time virtual assistant so their levels seem very high in comparison! Grin But by royal standards, I've always been under the impression it's pretty limited.

CurlewKate · 27/02/2024 16:03

I was just looking at the reports and the service was stuffed with royals, current and in exile, so you'd think so.

Kenthighst · 27/02/2024 12:33

I thought it was odd Kate was mentioned. It's a Tues, an hour before the event approx 9.30 when he cancelled.. Any number of things could have happened that didn't need Kate being dragged into it..
Eg one of the kids could have had an accident in school & he had to rush,
He could have a bad dose of the shits etc

Just off that he cancelled less than an hour beforehand which makes me think there is a lot more going on in the house of Windsor...

Kate was mentioned to try to stop speculation before any rumours started linking her and her health to this.

I can't see Carole ever allowing that either!

Some of these theories are bonkers.

Unfortunately I'm starting to wonder if Kate is actually quite seriously unwell?...I hope not.

He is still a prince, and at the time of the threats, was a working royal.

If there were threats, Camilla wouldn't have been there

If you see the footage he arrives at the door first, having walked with Fergie and Tim, but has to wait for Anne - who was behind chatting with Zara and Mike, to go in first.

He also wasn’t sat next to Camilla either. The working royals - Anne (plus Tim) and the Gloucesters were sat next to her before him. Princess Alexandra (with her daughter for support) who has never official retired from royal duties was also in that row, so working royals were taking precedence over order of succession.

had William been in attendance I think he’d have been in the row behind, but he was the easiest to shuffle around.

Wasntmeanttobelikethis · 27/02/2024 16:08

I read ages ago that Kate’s parent’s marriage is not anymore
Apparently, this is common knowledge abroad: maybe Uncle going into CBB has today threatened to break this story when he’s on the show
And William needs to oversee the story being broken by RF first; and support Kate?

Because it was pretty unpleasant. You might not like the royals but they're human beings.

And 'why so serious?' is just another way of saying 'yeah, I was only joking.' The cop out of the bully.

Wasn't a godparent's funeral though.

See also: multiple nannies. And friends and relatives.

Edited

They have one nanny .
Yes they have friends and relatives however sometimes DC just want a parent .
It wasn’t a funeral - he died a year ago - it was a memorial service.

She’s obviously been aware for years but perhaps she’s just had enough of the pretence. She’s in a rock solid position legally and she may well have come to hate the whole circus.

As a previous poster said, something is up.
