Security threat probably

AInightingale · 27/02/2024 15:22

Surely if he was ill they would have said so, this is what the RF normally do. The late Queen and DoE missed many engagements as they got older and BP was usually upfront about it, if not going into great detail.

It's all a bit odd, everything about the Prince and Princess of Wales feels odd and off at the moment.

CrispsandCheeseSandwich · 27/02/2024 15:23

please give my love to your dh. made me laugh. top man. that really is the only reason and don't understand why all are pussyfooting around. someone had to say it.

Why would an affair mean dropping out of his godfather's memorial service at late notice?

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 27/02/2024 15:24

Presumably they knew people would see him heading out, and may see him again, otherwise they’d just use Covid as a cover imo.

It is somewhat odd.

BibbleandSqwauk · 27/02/2024 15:25

Seems to me that "personal reasons" means private family business - three school age kids, quite possibly one of them has had an accident at school or something - the sort of reason most of us would drop out of work early and go and pick up and NOT the sort of thing you send the Nanny for. Mostly though, I think personal = private and rightly so. We have no entitlement to know unless there is some serious, constitutionally important issue going on.

Rubbishconfession · 27/02/2024 15:26

User7825525 · 27/02/2024 12:17

Most likely one or more of the kids are sick at home and Kate isn't well enough yet to run after them.

What do you think the nannies are there for? Hmm

This rose tinted view of the royals as any other family with childcare needs is bemusing.

101Nutella · 27/02/2024 15:28

Is it because Camilla’s nephew is a Tory MP and the party is having chaos with that idiot saying offensive things and refusing to apologise. Rishi needs a bit less coverage especially in the run up to the elections? Got his mates to do him a favour? Divert some headlines?

or security threat?🤔

potato57 · 27/02/2024 15:29

User7825525 · 27/02/2024 12:27

I genuinely think W&K take the "living normally" very seriously. There was one time about 3-4 years ago where both pulled out of a last minute event due to illness of one of the kids. It had very similar headlines and people were baffled why they just didn't leave it to a nanny. It could easily be the kids requesting a parent to stay or the nanny being sick too or something similar.

Wasn't a godparent's funeral though.

See also: multiple nannies. And friends and relatives.

Yes, it is all very weird.

Pippa and her husband seemed to be diverting attention deliberately by being snapped on holiday - taking one for the team.

I’d bet £££ that Catherine was never in that hospital. Charles was, but not Catherine. She was elsewhere.

I hope she’s divorcing him, because the alternative is that she’s gravely unwell and even as a republican I obviously don’t want that.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 27/02/2024 15:31

or security threat?

If it was a security threat they wouldn’t have had the majority of the rest of the royal family there.

Not to mention the other royal families there.

CurlewKate · 27/02/2024 15:32

"Could have been lots of 'personal' reasons why he had to leave in a hurry"

I can't think of many reasons for him bailing out of a memorial service for his godfather at less than an hour's notice when he's in the order of service. Particularly as the rest of the RF was there, so not anything to to with the King....

Exactly

The only time I've been urgently called out of work was when one of my DC bumped heads with another child and needed to go to A&E for mild concussion and a scalp cut that needed suturing - it was bleeding everywhere and looked much worse than it was

All other illness dramas and upsets I'd been able to ask someone else to go into school for me

Roussette · 27/02/2024 15:35

I agree @HelenaCh9

I said I thought Kate wasn't in that hospital at all and I was jumped on from a great height! Because someone had an aunt who worked opposite and they had two policeman there 24/7 (I felt a bit sorry for the aunt having to monitor this lol)

I hope very much she isn't ill.

Vespanest · 27/02/2024 15:35

Whatever is the reasoning it was so short notice that there wasn’t the time for clever PR strategy. Hoping it is something mundane as there seems so many people (not here) who want it to be something serious.

Lockupyourbiscuits · 27/02/2024 15:36

Personal usually means family illness
It could possibly be one of the Middletons is ill as William is very close to them or an accident at school involving an injury
Hopefully nothing major

Bimblesalong · 27/02/2024 15:36

It is odd. Surely some sort of further neutral but explanatory message would calm concerns (fan the flames?). Maybe there will be some sort of update later.

Kenthighst · 27/02/2024 15:37

@Efacsen but the royals have a team in place for these sort of misfortunate accidents.
Also Lambrook would surely be equipped to deal with this also until a parebt was available unless it was extremely serious.
The royals (& other members of the higher echleons of society) are not the same as us mere mortals.
There is definitely a lot more going on behind the scenes. He could have quietly slipped out after his reading.

I’d never heard of this Constantine dude. Did he live in England? Why is the memorial service in Windsor?

King Constantine and Prince Phillip were 1st cousins and King Charles is a second cousin. Lived in the UK since he had to abdicate the crown

Pasithean · 27/02/2024 15:38

What has it got to do with the rest of us. Leave them alone, every family has its unexpected hiccups minor or major.

CarrotOfPeace · 27/02/2024 15:38

Maybe he didn't think Andrew was going then they told him he was

Of course they don't live normally. That's actually offensive to millions of families. Obviously they have help, you are delusional if you think they don't.

Everyone’s normal is different. I agree they have help, I would if I could. I’m not offended by that comment.

MadameBrigitte · 27/02/2024 15:41

I think Kate is a lot more ill than what we've been told. Whether its a physical or MH illness remains to be seen.
(Just as a side note, William didn't attend Constantine's actual funeral either.)

EmmaGrundyForPM · 27/02/2024 15:41

it's very odd to cancel an event like this at such short notice.

I'm no Roaylist but I really hope there's a very minor/mundane reason.

lemmefinish · 27/02/2024 15:42

Would Pippa be loving life on holiday whilst her sister is gravely ill & bed bound. It’s a soap opera & the peasants lap it up!

Plus it's bin day, the washing machine has broken and the freezer needs de-frosting before the big online food order is delivered on Thursday.

😂
