Meghan is a sweet and kind lady.
Wherever the RF do "charity" "work" they don't donate money. In stead they go there in clothes, cars paid for by tax payers with staff paid for by staff payers to cut a ribbon.
Even the builders, architects and people who will work in the building do much more and actual work than the RF yet they must be hallowed for it otherwise their followers blindly wail at the thought of them being criticised.

The recent headline that social housing will be built on RF land for example is a case of the more you look the less you see.

William says his life's work is to end homelessness and takes an annual photo with a man portrayed to be homeless. He doesn't donate his money to actually build anything. This recent report is for a minute amount; 20 or so units.
In fact this is a planning requirement to build a certain percentage of social housing in every new development.
1 for every 9 or so.

Congratulations to Mayhew and God bless Meghan.
Even though the RF and BM hate her and use the press against her to deflect from those who must not be criticised she has kindness flowing through her and has donated her own money to a charity in the UK.

PS don't buy a pet if you can't keep them and try to find a home for them if circumstances change.

Failing at life? Hiwbarr they failing? Most people woukdnt conside living in abhuge house with 2 kids and being able to wear expensive clothes and going out to expensive restaurants as failing at life.

Failing to find a purpose in life. Not failing at life. Read the post again!

Either way purpose in life or just life how are they failing exactly? What is your purpose in life? I don't think they have ever said what they thought was their purpose in life for you to judge them against whether they are failing at it

Deep breaths, @Spectre8 . I'm not really having a go at them - I'm sure they have a lovely life but they seem to want a purpose to it beyond existing in expensive clothes, in a house, and eating. And that's where the wheels come off - they don't have a purpose in the US, which manages fine without aristocracy. They don't want to come back to the UK, which is fair enough. The opportunities for actresses in their forties are notoriously few, and Harry doesn't have many marketable skills. I personally think they'd have been a lot happier if they bought a smaller house, settled down and lived in blissful domestic harmony on his inheritance from his mother.

Are you kidding? They never stop going on about their purpose in life. Every month there's a new one. Harry wants to save the world with a new travel app! Whilst taking private jets whenever he feel's like it. But it's other people's private jets, so that's OK! Also playing polo, a notoriously unecological sport, but shhh about that.

Meghan's always wanting to stand up for something, or someone. Not quite sure how she ever actually does that, though?

"The Duchess of Sussex said she realized part of her purpose in life was to "advocate for those who felt unheard, to stand up to injustice, and to be not afraid of saying what you know is true, what is just, and what is right."

Haha I'm sure she is.

Your opening post made me smile.
I find the whole saint Meghan, evil Royal Family narrative absurd but entertaining at the same time.

Maybe someone should do a musical on it.

Can it please be the same blokes who wrote Book of Mormon? They did a great job of that, and I’m sure they’d have a great time poking fun at the entire group - I picture a number with evil teddy bear back up dancers for the evil King, H&M dancing through a crowd demanding privacy, M&K doing a duet about each other from different locations, “she’s just a normal woman (but she’s got perfect haaaaair) she’s just a normal woman (but her clothes sell out everyWHEEEEEEEERE).” On and on.

And this one just came out last week:

"Meghan is a major advocate for mental health, family care, and gender equity. The Duchess hopes to be a cultural catalyst for positive change, reflecting her core belief that representation matters, and that communities can be enhanced through learning, healing, and inspirational support."

I can tell you what it’s definitely not, as Meghan has previously announced:

”I've never wanted to be a lady who lunches; I've always wanted to be a woman who works.

So wearing expensive clothes and going out to expensive restaurants is kind of the opposite of what Meghan has said she wants.

I think they should forget about all this no-good nonsense, and write lots of books about life in royal palaces.
how often do princesses change their bedsheet
what is for breakfast
where are the late queens dresses kept
whats on their weekly shop
how they deal with tantrums
what shampoo they use
etc

So wearing expensive clothes and going out to expensive restaurants is kind of the opposite of what Meghan has said she wants.

”Ladies that lunch” is shorthand for describe affluent, fashionable, and typically older women who socialise over lunch at exclusive restaurants or social clubs. These women are often seen as leading a leisurely lifestyle, focused solely on socialising and networking. Simply wearing expensive clothes and eating meals in posh restaurants whilst also being a woman does not translate to being this. Otherwise I would have to class myself as a lady luncheoner and I work full time. It’s an odd thing to say she’s being hypocritical for someone who was just seen to go for a lunch yesterday - the last being over 4 or 5 months ago.

Disingenuous OP. You’ve just posted this to read people ripping into her, it’s low.

MrsLeonFarrell · 23/02/2024 20:01

Donating is what "celebrities" who run charities or charitable foundations like Meghan are supposed to do. I'm sure they also make private donations. It's admirable.

The royal family highlight the work of charities to attract donations to those charities or they head up specific funding campaigns (William started one recently iirc). There are also occasional articles about members of the royal family making private donations which does this also happens. It's admirable.

People donate money to and support good causes, isn't that what people do whoever they are?

I'm not sure what the OP is trying to achieve.

This is REALLY coming together. Now we just need some investors willing to take a chance on some unknown kids MNers.

Well if you are totally materialistic then you might consider that a success regardless of anything else.

I've seen some wonderful pieces of poetry and lyrics written on here, we have the resources. There's certainly plenty of material regardless of where on the HM vs RF scale you fall.

I was mostly responding to the poster who had said that “Most people woukdnt conside …being able to wear expensive clothes and going out to expensive restaurants as failing at life” by pointing out Meghan had more or less said she was looking for more than that in her life. But I also think the phrase “Ladies who Lunch” encompasses women who indulge in conspicuous consumption - expensive designer clothes and accessories, meeting in expensive restaurants and venues -, and who don’t have 9-5 jobs, but focus on charitable endeavours.

Like the character of Rachel was being pressured to become in the White Lotus, if you watched it - her new family had plenty of money so charitable works and exhibited affluence was what was expected of her. Funnily enough, Rachel carried a Goyard bag in that series, as Meghan was also carrying for her evening restaurant trip yesterday (and had done often recently). This choice was much remarked on when the series came out, and the fact that Meghan Markle is a fan of this bag was referred to in this article dissecting the costume director’s choice.
