Does anyone know where Prince William is?

Errrrr….. where’s Willy? The press focus in the past 24 hours has been perplexing. King Charles’ diagnostic has been the top item, of course. But, bizarrely, the 2nd item has almost invariably been… Prince Harry this and that and the other. Prince HARRY??? What’s with the obsession with him? This should be about Prince WILLIAM! Yet from/about him, absolute silence. What on Earth is going on?

And please don’t start with the “he has to be at his wife’s bedside”. If Harry The Not Next In Line To The Throne And Not Counsellor of State And Can’t Stand In For The King etc etc can fly all the way from Montecito, then William The next King and He Who Should Stand In For King Charles can go visit his Dad in hospital (did he?), rush to be by his dad’s bedside (did he?), make announcements about which official duties he will take up, etc etc.

I know Prince Harry is the one the media are addicted to writing about and slagging off to drive clicks, but can they (and so many on these boards) perhaps take a break from their unhealthy obsession with H (&M) and keep the spotlight where most would expect it to be, on King Charles and, in particular, his successor Prince William?

[Title should read does anyone know...]

I would make beer cheese for the burger. Give me a minute and I’ll get you an old-timey, right out of Kentucky recipe.

Ohh sounds exciting!!! 😋

Depends how swollen they are - and we have a RIGHT TO KNOW!!! WE'RE TAXPAYERS!!!!

To be clear I'm not interested in the size of HRHs balls

ArcaneWireless · 11/02/2024 13:28

Thank you so much AliceOlive 😘

Daisyislazy · 11/02/2024 13:28

No matter how much tax I pay

AliceOlive · 11/02/2024 13:33

@ArcaneWireless

You can make this thinner with more beer so that it can be pourable. But fantastic as a spread on burgers. It’s very regional American food.

I’ll find something else more pourable though.

Does anyone know where Prince William is?
ArcaneWireless · 11/02/2024 13:34

Superb 😊

jeffgoldblum · 11/02/2024 13:39

Can I ask @AliceOlive , what's rat cheese? And when it says American cheese, what would that be?

Mylovelygreendress · 11/02/2024 13:39

Just saw a photo of HM . He was WALKING to church , smiling and waving so looks like the palace is lying AGAIN!!

wildernesssw · 11/02/2024 13:39

rat cheese???? 😮

Mylovelygreendress · 11/02/2024 13:40

I can confirm he does - or used to 20 years ago!

A friend was event manager for an event where Charles was speaking. His team requested, as refreshments, some British cheeses and oatcakes.

Although perhaps that was for them, not him? 😕

This is a really old cook book so the terms are a bit odd at times.

I just buy nice cheddar. Usually some white and some yellow. Sharp and mild. But I can’t say it’s ever mattered much as long as it’s cheddar.

The type of beer is what really changes the flavor. I usually use the lightest one I have on hand. But I’ve never made a batch of this that I didn’t like.

It makes a ton though so you might make 1/2 or 1/4 the recipe instead.

AliceOlive · 11/02/2024 13:46

wildernesssw · 11/02/2024 13:39

rat cheese???? 😮

I googled and think it was just a term for cheap cheddar.

jeffgoldblum · 11/02/2024 13:56

So when you say yellow cheddar ( sorry to quiz you!) do you mean mild cheddar? Or like Scottish cheddar that's dyed and looks like Red Leicester a bit?

AliceOlive · 11/02/2024 14:19

It’s really more orange. But the color doesn’t matter, rather one sharp and one mild. I’ve long suspected nothing matters except that you like the ingredients.

We have wonderful cheddars from Wisconsin here. You might not believe it until you tried one.

“More than a century ago, Wisconsin's growing dairy industry attracted immigrant cheese makers from Germany, France, Switzerland, Holland, Italy and Scandinavia who applied their Old World cheese making skills to the plentiful supply of wholesome milk. By the 1920s there were over 2800 cheese factories in Wisconsin.”

jeffgoldblum · 11/02/2024 14:26

Sounds lovely @AliceOlive , and unlike some cheese snobs, I find it entirely believable that you have your own great cheese!
Funny info , my parents used to live in cheddar ( yes just down the road from the gorge!) and worked part time in the little cheese company that's still there! ( no most cheddar cheese is not made in cheddar anymore!)

AliceOlive · 11/02/2024 14:36

That’s really neat!

I spend a lot of time in West Norfolk and work in central London. There is a difference between going to Norwich and going to West Norfolk . Also if you live in Devon how recently have you done the drive to Kings Lynn. In fact is there anything you don’t consider yourself an expert on, have you seem the Kings medical notes ?

No cyclamenqueen I'm not an expert on absolutely everything in answer to your question but I do know a bit about quite a bit and I stick to the subjects I know about and tend not to stray. I guess at my age and having lived the life I've lived I've picked up a reasonable amount. Hope that's all good with you. I used to drive into work in the City everyday and then drive back to the RAC pretty much next door to Clarence House several times a week to swim, then often head out of London after that depending on commitments or invites. I knew the traffic inside out. I also know all about American cheese having been posted to Kentucky and California, it was revolting everywhere except for in a cheese shop we found in Carmel (where English cheddar was sold). I also know rural roads having lived latterly in rural Devon in a tiny coastal village. And I get around a lot and see a lot and learn a lot with eight adult DC with interesting friends and interesting jobs. People aren't islands (although tbf I do now live on one, in Scotland).

jeffgoldblum · 11/02/2024 14:40

I can tell you , some of that stuff really stinks!!
I'm not easily put off a smelly cheese , but wow!! Pass me my husbands smelly socks , anything to cover the smell! 🤣🤣

So you have now judged American cheese based on being posted to just two places!
Before @AliceOlive our resident American and cheese advisor can step in , I can tell you that is extremely rude , wrong and playing to outdated stereotypes.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 11/02/2024 12:32

Well I for one sometimes like it soft and sometimes like it hard; and sometimes I like it with blue veins. Eclectic in my tastes, me.

I say Mrs Danvers 😂

wildernesssw · 11/02/2024 14:50

Ooooh, I do love a sweeping generalisation!

goodbyestranger · 11/02/2024 14:54

jeff kindly don't tell me whether or not I found American cheese revolting for the years I spent living in America. That's just too ridiculous. I am not 'stereotyping' the cheese which was available - it was universally disgusting. Rubbery and synthetic and just vile. I had two children over there and was extremely keen for decent cheese - a pregnancy thing. Couldn't find any good cheese anywhere except for Carmel. It's a judgment based on all the various supermarkets I shopped in and since we did road trips every month for five days at a time I think I'm reasonably qualified to be able to form a personal opinion. What a piece of nonsense to tell another poster off for her thoroughly well informed opinion of American cheese. It melted well is the only good thing I can say about it. Other than that urgh. There's a reason why we head to France for holidays now. I liked all the Americans I met a lot - but not the cheese. No-one took it personally....
