Meghan, Duchess of Sussex spotted out and about, part 3

Part 3 of a nice, unproblematic thread to discuss some of the fab outfits from the Duchess of Sussex, and some of the many great causes she (and Harry) and Archewell supports. h/t @queentim for the original threads.

I really liked this outfit and the way the skirt flowed as she walked - really good choice and quite pared back compared to some other people on the red carpet.

Well said @skullbabe. Some posters need to argue with others about how awful Meghan is. Even saying she looks young in a photo (just my opinion) has to have a slap down that no, she looks like a .middle aged woman 😂

And yes being with like minded people on a thread who all think Meghan is the devil incarnate is probably boring

pipsfromthefuture · 24/02/2024 18:48

I saw Meghan wearing ballet flats.

I hope the skinnies and ballet flats don't come back into trend

skullbabe · 24/02/2024 18:48

Women-led initiatives seems to be a thread, from choosing Lemonada for her podcast to supporting Clevr Brands or the Welcome Project to yesterday’s announcement that she’s supporting Rethink

I think it certainly has been evident by the choices she has made in the causes she individually like the above and the things like Smartworks, the Grenfell Cookbook and Harvest House that there is an obvious bias in the causes Meghan supports. I think the work with Mina’s List/Welcome Project has a potential for another cookbook.

This would be nice, maybe recipes from different groups of refugee women who've settled recently in the USA and have been part of the Minas List/Welcome Project initiatives.

I enjoy Afghan food once in a while. Especially mantu and the kebabs

😂 This specific combination, not for a while. Well as they say fashion always comes back

Another hilarious trend, that I really hope does not come back...wearing work gear to the clubs

Is this on thread?

Anyways let's be clear the Lemonada "choice" is not an initiative but a simple commercial podcasting contract. Nothing wrong with that but let's call things by their name.

Flats are not bad. Well supported flats like the goldy ones she wore are good shoes to her bunions. The previous ones she used for lunch, don't have support and will just make her bunions get worse. She should know this by now.... specially since she had to have surgery to fix her feet.

@Coronateachingagain Harry knew he was in for a bollocking later on!

😅 just. Imagine. That. Showdown. Epic

What do you mean? Lemonada's not a women-led company?

I don't think I said flats were bad.

Bunions do look painful. Kate has them as well.

I had a friend in highschool who had them at just 14, but she seemed fine in flats and heels.

I think many celebrities do due to the shoes they consistently wear. It's a risk women take when they wear high heels especially, but I'm sure there are ways to manage.

More power to them. I couldn't imagine giving up my shoe collection!

Again the mean spiritedness here is the point. A person has a condition which can be genetic or can be caused by pointy, toe squeezy or high heeled shoes. There is no correlation between bunions and flat shoes and they are certainly not made worse by flats. The sole reason to bring this up by this poster was to bring attention to a medical condition in order to mock it. This is the second time in this thread that it has been brought up. Why? I mean what was the purpose of bringing up corrective foot surgery? Under what other circumstances would this kind of commentary about a medical issue be acceptable?

Coronateachingagain · 24/02/2024 20:15

@pipsfromthefuture Yeah the high heels are a killer for feet. My mum used to have them bunions and it was certainly self inflicted and a product of the required elegance of the time. I got luckier.

@skullbabe I did not know this thread was also to talk about the "causes" Megs supports. Not clear from the beginning but I guess all threads evolve so thank you for the clarification. On that subject (and since this is on thread) I don't think there are many causes she truly supports, unless there is something in it for her of course.
Does anyone knows how much she is getting paid for the Lemonada thingy? A lot less than the Spotify contract for sure.

pipsfromthefuture · 24/02/2024 20:27

@Coronateachingagain did your mum get bunion surgery?

Coronateachingagain · 24/02/2024 20:28

Oh I am in love with those Goyard bags she wears. They are worth thousands of pounds so way out of my budget I am afraid - no Netflix millions to bank on for me! Or does she get them sent for free, anyone knows? She would be allowed now. There were problems at the Palace with her wanting to keep the free stuff that was sent to them 😅 only a commoner but now a Duchess (whatever that means)

No she didn't. At some point she switched to platform shoes to stop the damage 😅

Nothing wrong with bunions. But I si agree, there are certainly flats and flats for bunions though. Ask any friend with bunions. The need to hold your feet around and over. Flip flops are also a killer - a summer of wearing them if you already have the condition will send you straight to surgery.

Coronateachingagain · 24/02/2024 20:42

And by the way, I think it is really important to know what shoes will be good and supportive and what shoes will make the condition worse. Having seen my mum suffer and have to deal with, I don't wish it to anyone. Especially as you get old. One piece of advice, just throw away your flip flops and you will extend your life of wearing high heels comfortably. Kate seems to have some incipient bunions or bunions too (she doesn't show them feet anymore 😅) self inflicted probably - we have all been young and push ourselves into those high heels with two strings to hold it all.

Archewell has shared recognizing Black History Month in the US and Canada. Some great links and related resources across the country

The Smithsonian African American History Museum in DC has been on my bucket list since it opened. I've heard great things about it.

"During a recent team visit to the Skirball Cultural Center to the powerful exhibit ‘This Light of Ours: Activist Photographers of the Civil Rights Movement,’ we were reminded once again of the enduring spirit of those who fought tirelessly for justice and equality, and of the profound impact that individuals can have in shaping a more equitable and inclusive future."

Black History Month isn’t a priority for H&M - if they only get round to virtue signalling in the last couple of days of the month ...... a mere afterthought.

What have they done to celebrate beyond posting a couple of hyperlinks to existing events.

Poor effort - jumping on the band wagon.

I don't think they're virtue signaling or bandwagon jumping, they like many other companies are highlighting various efforts given their dedicated months

Off the top of my head, outside of Black History Month, they've been working for some time on a training program with Georgetown about biases against black girls and women in the criminal justice system, and they've been a partner with the Loveland Foundation since launching Archewell for years
