Social media leaking news of POW hysterectomy

It goes without saying its only her business, however I found it odd that whilst 'doomscrolling' from sleeplessness I came across a couple of posts from US news sites claiming they had news obtained from 'Palace sources' posted onto SM.

We all know that KP is somewhat leaky but over something like this? (I suppose Maybe if the price was right?)
Or is it just speculation passed off as the truth?
Or, are US news sources avowed to publish info that uk ones aren't?

I'm not particularly interested in what she's had done, surgery is unpleasant, full stop, But I'm just wondering if there's a reason the story is in US but not uk news-if it even real ( which seems slightly unlikely I would think, but then you never know about anyone personal life).
Just found out odd and curious as to the whys

We don't need to know what's wrong with her. Just when they are out of action so we don't worry about them and assume they've died.

Who is 'we'? I am not sitting around worrying about any of these people. I fail to see why anybody 'needed' to be informed about what was going on in the first place. They have created this media circus, the way they have handled this.

Why bother to give so much information about the King then? Both are senior members of the RF.

Because he is king she isnt even in line to the throne she is married to someone who is she can drop dead tomorrow and it won't change the line of succession (putting it bluntly)

Re the King, I think he’s made that decision to encourage other men his age to get themselves checked in all probability.

Re Kate, it’s none of our business

Don’t be ridiculous.

Theunamedcat · 20/01/2024 09:26

I dont think the palace can stop people spreading rumours and wildly speculating about her illness unfortunately unless they say what it is (which I personally wouldn't) people noticed she was missing that's why I believe they made the announcement

Thunderbird7 · 20/01/2024 09:27

Her body, her business.

I had an ED and the ignorance here is shocking. It’s not something you should speculate about.

padmorn · 20/01/2024 09:27

I think given how public a life they lead people are interested in what procedure she has had. I think this is natural curiosity especially since they always pretend to be so perfect.

My thoughts are that given the fact they stated that it was not cancer related means she has some sort of lump or area of concern that has been removed, perhaps it wasn't as straight forward as they had planned hence the longer hospital stay and press release.

i am pretty sure whatever is wrong with Kate, someone else in the world will be suffering the same condition. It’s not only prostate that people can learn more about - almost every condition can benefit in the same way.

Viviennemary · 20/01/2024 09:29

I think it's the most likely. I think not saying is fuelling the speculation. You can hardly make something the main item of news and then expect folk not to wonder. But I can appreciate why the Princess doesn't want this to be public knowledge at the moment.

You could argue that it would be extremely beneficial to go public with that especially given the taboo and misinformation.

Brandyginger · 20/01/2024 09:36

Can anyone point to an official published source that says it’s not cancer related? I don’t think the written press release said that; it’s just been the overlay from the press that says it’s not cancer related (eg The Times). Have the press been briefed separately or relying on sources to make that reassurance?

I work in healthcare research, and the needs of the patient always outweigh the needs of science and society as a whole. So if she wants it to be private, maintaining her privacy is more important than any “awareness” she could raise. Also speaking from experience when I was in the middle of my ED, nothing I said would have been helpful to society at large! There are people like Hadley Freeman who have come out the other end who are sharing their experiences. It’s entirely speculation anyway, and not helpful speculation.

The palace are handling this really badly for some reason, we will eventually find out of course and honestly I feel sorry for Kate and the unbearable pressure she is always under.

MargaretThursday · 20/01/2024 09:39

If they announced what it was, then there would still be social media saying it was a front hiding the real reason.

And people hinting that they know more from "a Palace source" or because they are "a royal expert". Otherwise known as someone either stirring or using guesswork.

Maybe Kate's said that she doesn't want it known, and they are respecting it anyway.

lavenderlou · 20/01/2024 09:40

I don't think they should start setting a precedent about releasing details of personal health matters. The public does not not have the right to know such private information.

The King's procedure is different. He has made the choice to release information to encourage awareness.

luckylavender · 20/01/2024 09:44

@CupOfCoffeeandaPineappleChunk - so why are you speculating OP?

Dibbydoos · 20/01/2024 09:45

If she's had a hysterectomy it'll be the best thing ever - well it was for me!!!

Bunnycat101 · 20/01/2024 09:45

In some ways the speculation must be worse than releasing. The press camped out like vultures will be making it harder for family to visit etc but I am sure if the could have got away with announcing they would have done to give her more privacy.

CupOfCoffeeandaPineappleChunk · 20/01/2024 09:46

@StillCreatingAName you couldn't be more wrong.
I was actually flicking through tik tok on whatever came up while I couldn't sleep. I was just very surprised at ask the excerpts from American news channels which were randomly appearing amongst the other stuff and curious hence my question.
I don't watch news not having a TV and tend not to read it in general. I certainly couldn't be bothered to scout out information about someone else's health concerns, frankly i have my own to deal with currently.

It might help if BP stopped the ridiculous speculation and announced what is going on. It’s only fuelling attention.

Edited

And it will continue when she comes out as people (me included I’m afraid) will be looking for “signs”.

@Newchapterbeckons

''I agree , to be so open about the King’s prostate of all things but to say nothing at all about Kate. It seems panicky and ill thought out.''

Indeed. They were very open about Camilla having a hysterectomy too for example and that meant that the media did not make a big deal of it.

The Queen's health issues were minimised and/or kept secret so people are bound to speculate that in Kate's case there is also something they are keeping quiet.

I think it is very clumsy comms/PR from them.

smilesy · 20/01/2024 09:48

When they announced the fact that the Princess has had surgery, they said they were well aware this would lead to speculation but that was as far as they would go with details at this time. It is possible there may be more details further down the line. It is up to the Princess what she reveals. As pp have said, the King had probably revealed details of his issue because it is a relatively minor procedure and he hopes to raise awareness of the condition, which is woefully lacking
