Social media leaking news of POW hysterectomy

It goes without saying its only her business, however I found it odd that whilst 'doomscrolling' from sleeplessness I came across a couple of posts from US news sites claiming they had news obtained from 'Palace sources' posted onto SM.

We all know that KP is somewhat leaky but over something like this? (I suppose Maybe if the price was right?)
Or is it just speculation passed off as the truth?
Or, are US news sources avowed to publish info that uk ones aren't?

I'm not particularly interested in what she's had done, surgery is unpleasant, full stop, But I'm just wondering if there's a reason the story is in US but not uk news-if it even real ( which seems slightly unlikely I would think, but then you never know about anyone personal life).
Just found out odd and curious as to the whys

In the UK the RF and the media have a relationship with each other, and I think the media know they have to manage this if they want any kind of access. So there is a line that they dont cross - whereas in the US there is no such relationship and therefore no censoring by the press. Also think it is highly likely that someone who is not overly hard working may not be pushing too hard to get back to work.

How unpleasant.

EdithWeston · 27/01/2024 20:08

Source for press being moved on was here on MN - poster who said she was local described what was happening. That was after the pix of William but of course before the King went in to get his prostate fixed, which adds a different layer of interest to the same place.

I've no idea who has visited her in hospital, nor how many times. Are the tabloids really reporting on that?

LapinR0se · 27/01/2024 20:09

In case it hasn’t already been mentioned…don’t forget that a radio phone-in to a hospital where Kate was after childbirth resulted in a nurse taking her own life.
i hope they are imposing the media ban to also protect hospital staff from being hounded and questioned

I drove past the London clinic today and there were masses of press outside the hospital. They have also spotted the Queen going into visit the king three times today. Prince William has not been seen visiting her for a week because he hasn’t visited her for a week. Whether that is because he isn’t interested, she doesn’t want him to, she isn’t fit to be visited or she isn’t there, it is impossible to know. But don’t believe the nonsense you are being fed by the famously misleading tabloid press.

How do you know Prince William hasn't visited her for a week?

LolaSmiles · 27/01/2024 20:19

That was tragic and sadly shows the level of weird obsession some people have with the royal family.
Nobody needs to know the details. A very wealthy woman is getting medical care at a very good hospital and her family will know what they need to know. It's not relevant to the public.

Ah, so much of the US press is national enquirer ( i think that's what the mad conspiracies and aliens one is called) style fantasy then?

Well you learn something new every day!

Actually there are a lot of valid, truthful press sources in the United States. The Enquirer is not one of those. It is owned by trumps buddy.

RocketsMagnificent7 · 27/01/2024 20:27

@Delphigirl

I'm interested to know how you know who has and hasn't visited?

Some people on this thread seriously need to get a hobby.

pilates · 27/01/2024 21:29

@Delphigirl where did you get your information from about the POW’s visitors? Let’s not forget this is someone’s mum with school age children and she may not want all her personal information broadcast to the world. They are private people perhaps just respect that.

They are not private people they are funded by the tax payers so don't get to pick and choose what they want publishing about them.

pilates · 27/01/2024 21:46

Unbelievable 😮 so that gives you a right to have all the details of her medical procedures. Right okay 🤨

The point I was making is that she isn't a private citizen and that is her choice. She can't pick and choose what she wants printing about her.

Aliceandthecheshirecat · 27/01/2024 22:29

actually the POW has the same rights in terms of privacy as the rest of us in the UK, I believe, (happy to be proved wrong).

The tabloids sell news, provide clickbait, push the envelope as far as they can etc.

The fact that I cough up £1.29 a year to fund the RF, doesn't give me the right to know the ins and outs of the POW medical procedures/visitors, whatever.

I pay far more to fund the beeb; my council; my government; and a whole load of regulatory quangos that do diddly squat.....

What do the Royal Family actually do then apart from diddly squat?

Aliceandthecheshirecat · 27/01/2024 22:43

...ahhh... @losingtheplot999

before we engage on whether £1.29 is value for money or not... and I'm sure that is subjective

  • please provide me with evidence that the POW, being a citizen of the UK, is not entitled to privacy on health matters
User3563573 · 27/01/2024 23:15

Pretty certain a hospital of that calibre has secret entrances and ways of allowing high profile guests to visit. I agree with a PP that the photo op of Prince William driving his own car (conveniently one day after the announcement) was in exchange for privacy during the remainder of Kate's stay.

I do hope that some of the people who post on these threads are never called for Jury Service!

Interesting that her children haven’t been brought to see her. Again whether that is because she isn’t fit to be visited or not there who can say. It cannot be because they don’t want to see her or she doesn’t want to see them, however, we can probably agree on that.

The hospital does not encourage children to visit - the Matron has to give permission for this - it’s on the website. I read that whenever Kate is away she always FaceTimes with the kids. So they might be doing that

Both of my young children visited me daily and no one batted an eyelid in the very same hospital. They even organised drinks and snacks for them. Everyone has a private room so having visitors will not disturb anyone.

At this point I think the total radio silence IS very concerning. I believe BP would be keen to get some good news out to the public by now.

LindorDoubleChoc · 28/01/2024 05:52

RichardsGear · 20/01/2024 08:14

Is it though? If you heard a colleague was off work after having surgery would you be on a mission to find out exactly what the surgery was? Especially after a manager said something like Nicola's going to be off for a couple of months and would prefer not to discuss it. Would you then think sod that! I'm only human - I want to know exactly what op she's had?!

This is exactly how I feel. If you think well-known people are entitled to privacy sometimes (which I certainly do) then you cannot possibly argue that BP are "fuelling speculation" by not giving out details. It's an either/or situation.

Why can't people content themselves with simply not knowing? How is your life going to be altered one iota by knowing some further details about Kate's health.

Oh really? Was it a while ago that you were in there? Things might have changed, say, since the pandemic?

I agree with you re the radio silence. It’s all very strange. I mean the King and Queen are quite happy to be seen coming and going to the hospital. I know their circumstances are very different to the Wales’. But still - it’s all very odd.

Hopefully we will hear soon that she has been discharged, is doing well and will make a full recovery.

MoneyMoneyMoneyy · 28/01/2024 06:06

Seeing the Queen coming and going and smiling is very reassuring. It’s like where TLQ was always there and it was a reassuring presence.

Not seeing hide nor hair of HRH’s close family is the opposite. Whatever the reasons.

8 months ago, so post pandemic and it was a total non issue.

If Kate was well enough of course she would want to see, hug and reassure her children - can anyone really imagine a matron saying no?! Of course not, and certainly not to the future Queen! They were so welcoming of my children.

Kate is an outstanding mother, her very first priority will be to reassure her undoubtly worried children. I am becoming increasingly concerned, this is clearly why she has taken a position to shield her children from her diagnosis - and as time passes we can see why. Sadly, I have tried this and it doesn’t work. Children will worry for their mother regardless of detail.

To anyone saying why does it matter? What a heartless thing to say. Kate is a very much loved, central and senior member of the royal family, soon to be Queen! Of course the public are concerned and want to know if she is okay!

megletthesecond · 28/01/2024 07:35

The most important people in this are the children. They are at school (other children have the internet and gossipy parents remember) and I doubt that the royal family want anything leaking until their mum is back home with them and they can see she is on the mend.
I had an operation when my dc's were little and making sure they were OK was the priority.
