I don't think she needs you to reply on her behalf

I'll reply as I please, thanks.

She's a fountain of knowledge about the royals.

It's 'fount'.

It saves me having to look at the Daily Fail

Wow, I haven't heard THAT one before.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

I think we should play word bingo on these threads.

I nominate 'Daily Fail', 'Chuck' and 'forelock-tuggers/tugging' as a starting point!

Can I add “ froth” and “haters” ?

I like ‘plebs’ shorty for ‘plebeians’. Much like ‘fount’ is short for ‘fountain’.

Bring on the revolution!

"king/queen of England"

FFS do posters honestly not know that there is no such person, or are they deliberately poking the bear?

One saying I find worth remembering is 'take your own advice'.

It's pretty clear that alongside working as members of the Royal Family, William and Kate are doing all they can to bring their children up as normally as possible.

The time will come when the bulk of engagements will fall to them. I don't see any harm in allowing them to rear their children in a totally abnormal environment!

@Lookingatthesunset I agree with what you say. When Charles and Anne were young children they hardly ever saw their parents. The queen took some time off when the younger two were small, feeling she'd gone above and beyond and deserved some family time. W and K are determined to give their children what every child needs and deserves. But surely you mean totally normal, not totally abnormal?

Some are public sector, yes!

Even worse when you're scottish but live in England. I don't just read it on forums, but also hear it in real life. SO tedious.

Serenster who is aware of Kate's public movements not for this year but for the past number of YEARS? I don't think she needs you to reply on her behalf. She's a fountain of knowledge about the royals. I follow her posts to keep up to date myself. It saves me having to look at the Daily Fail.

Gotta love a board where knowing what you’re talking about is seen as worthy of derision…😂

Couldn't agree more!

If I disliked something as violently as some of the posters here do, I would avoid the topic.

I have always loved history and been interested in monarchies so the current RF is history in the making to me. Some posters are so vicious and nasty with it.

I'm with you about the rubbish being talked online. I can't just leave it when if I had a really sensible head on I'd just ignore the tripe.

I agree - if you dislike someone so much then you'd ignore them (especially if they have no bearing on the running of the country or are not funded publicly - unlike some!),

but as has been frequently stated here by some posters:

They are a trainwreck that you can't look away from!

Anyway, I do hope that Kate, along with the thousands of others going through health issues at the moment are recovering nicely with their families. It's always tough to be out so long.

Maybe this will push the politicians to stop destroying the NHS

I mean that there are three children growing up in a totally abnormal environment as heirs to the throne.

I think that William and Kate are totally doing the right thing in prioritising their young family as they grow up.

I agree it is an excuse, but one that's used in RF threads* frequently.

I think it's much less of an excuse when it comes to discussing politicians or heads of state though to be honest, as those people have an impact on government and lives (not about trivial gossip though)

But you said you didn't see any harm in allowing them to rear their children in a totally abnormal environment.

I think @Idontpostmuch meant that the circumstance of being royal heirs is abnormal in itself and so in that strange situation, K and W do all they can to make it as much like any other child's life in the UK. Of course it can't be but by being around more and cooking et cetera with the children when they can, they are doing what they can to be less remote than QE2 in her early days as monarch, and much less remote than George V and Queen Mary, for instance.

People say the RF stays the same. It doesn't. They all learn and change just as we all do.

I think that William and Kate are totally doing the right thing in prioritising their young family as they grow up.

Definitely, especially as they don't know what the future holds for them - they could be thrown into the top jobs earlier than they'd expected. I don't mean that KC will pop his clogs yet - I very much hope not - but if he does become chronically ill he just won't be able to carry out all the duties expected of him and William may end up as Regent, or at least doing much more than he might have expected.

Lookingatthesunset · 08/02/2024 14:34

@CoffeeCantataThe King's illness must have put the fear of God in them! You think your parents are somehow immortal - the realisation that William's destiny might not be somewhere in the vague future must be a sobering one, especially with the children still so young.

Fringepolitics294 · 08/02/2024 14:39

While I understand William wanting to focus on his family for as long as possible I just find this all so far removed from the every day life of say an average couple in uk. My dh for example managed to work 60 plus hour weeks in a professional job while looking after me and dds for a period of time (approx 3 months) when I was ill. We don’t have any staff either, not even a cleaner currently.

Edited to say: so I don’t understand why someone with many staff would need to take time off from work for so long. Obviously understand it if your spouse is seriously ill but not otherwise.

I was left alone during the day upstairs in bed with a flask of tea and some biscuits and the remote control during my post-op recovery while my dh did the school run and then went on to work and I had to get on with it.

A friend brought the dc back and they managed to make simple suppers for themselves instructed by me.

Assuming the PoW is not seriously ill - and I sincerely hope that she isn’t - I don’t understand William having to take so much time off tbh.
