Not on an official announcement no. But she seems like a very nice person so perhaps in the future she would talk about it if it was gynaecological and if it helped women.

I feel so embarrassed needing a hysterectomy. I’m ashamed and embarrassed. It would be good if women’s health could be more openly spoken of.

but the future queen absolutely does not need to tell the country her private and intimate business.

No need to feel ashamed or embarrassed. It's a fairly common op.

You would not be having one unless you needed it.

I had to have mine because of extremely large fibroids and very heavy periods that lasted for almost 2 weeks. For me, the op changed my life.

Try and have a positive attitude to it as I believe that helps. You will be fine

Iwasafool · 17/01/2024 18:37

I'm waiting for someone to come on and say they did their own hysterectomy in their lunch hour. Then they will be trumped by someone who did it on their teabreak but still managed to take the boss a cuppa and a digestive. I'm not sure what comes next, someone doing it with nail scissors while doing their job?

Can no one understand that we aren't all the same, the fact that I enjoyed childbirth and didn't need pain relief as I didn't have any pain doesn't mean that everyone has that experience. The fact that some people went to work five days or five weeks after a hysterectomy doesn't mean that is everyone's experience. It doesn't make anyone particularly clever or heroic either.

TheSnowyOwl · 17/01/2024 18:39

Hopefully she has a good recovery.

I have no doubt one of the endless biographies that are no doubt yet to be published will tell us all the details.

MixedPeel27 · 17/01/2024 18:39

@mydogisthebest

I literally couldn't stand for more than a few minutes for the first week and had trouble with incontinence for a week or so as well so 2 weeks in bed were about all I could manage.

I had a full hysterectomy, plus removal of omentum and a 10cm x 6cm cancerous ovarian tumour. I had two nights in hospital.

Not necessarily embarrassed, but the world has been picking over her uterus since she married William, perhaps she just wants a bit of medical privacy?

Especially after the Jacintha Saldanha tragedy.

RebeccaCloud9 · 17/01/2024 18:47

If she does have a hysterectomy and shares the news, it will at least stop the endless speculation of another baby announcement!

WestwardHo1 · 17/01/2024 18:49

Mikimoto · 17/01/2024 18:25

Lucky Katie didn't have to Wait-y for the NHS queue.

Oh gosh that's awfully clever. Well done you.

Msmumm · 17/01/2024 18:51

Poor woman, I hope she recovers quickly and well.
There are some awful comments on here.
The same people moaning that 'we are paying for the private hospital and police on the door' would also probably moan that she took up an NHS bed when she could afford to go private. Damned if she does, damned if she doesn't.

PosyPrettyToes · 17/01/2024 18:54

I’d imagine they’re keeping her in until she’s back on her feet properly, to avoid press intrusion as she gets through her initial recovery. Hope she’s feeling better soon.

No, it would start up another round of “oh no, no more royal babies. Will William find somebody else, now there are no more royal babies on the horizon? Here’s how Kate could have a surrogate pregnancy, now she can’t have any more royal babies herself”.

I’d pretend it was piles, if I was her.

I’d imagine the royals get better treatment than the rest of us. No in and out 24hrs after a hysterectomy (if that’s what she’s had done). Though she’s young for a hysterectomy……maybe it’s appendix but not returning to royal duties till Easter suggests something more than appendix.

My mum was 42 when she had a hysterectomy. She was in hospital for ten weeks for a variety of reasons including sepsis!! She thought she was the chef in the big brother house at one point too! Scary!

Clearinguptheclutter · 17/01/2024 18:57

I note that the bbc is saying “up to two weeks” which is surely a worst case scenario and means that a discharge in less than that time can be spun into a positive story

hopefully she will be just fine.

WhyAmINotCleaning · 17/01/2024 18:57

Isn't all surgery 'planned' to an extent. I hope she is OK. She's been through a lot with Meghan and Harry, her family business etc.

Willmafrockfit · 17/01/2024 18:57

i hope she is back to full health soon

I couldn't agree more. Some people seem to think that the person who had the minimal recovery needs should 'set the standard' for all others, and can't seem to comprehend that there are all kinds of variables. Yes, you may be lucky enough to have had a very easy time with absolutely no complications and very little pain. But minimising major hospital procedures and acting as if its akin to having a filling nowadays and why would anyone need to be in hospital for any length of time etc is really tiresome. I've seen it on so many threads on MN. 'Oh I was back playing tennis 3 days after my quadruple bypass', 'Oh I just popped into hospital in my lunch hour for a bit of brain surgery'.

We're not all the same. Just because you got lucky and had an extremely easy time doesn't mean you deserve a medal.

trickortrickier · 17/01/2024 18:59

She has a scar on her head from a serious operation she had as a child. The reason for the operation has remained private and never been disclosed publicly. She strikes me as a very private person and I think that's the way it will stay IF she is not outed by the press.

It has surprised me how quickly all the details of the late Queen's death has been published (how many books and serialisations has there been already?).

SweetChilliChickenWrap · 17/01/2024 19:01

Also announced today - the King's prostate

@EdithWeston

That'd make a great film! 😂

Oaktree55 · 17/01/2024 19:04

Someone commented that Charles’s announcement at the same time is to deflect attention from her. Could well be as v unusual to have these announcements together. Perhaps it is more that a straightforward scheduled operation.

Could be a burst appendix. I was in hospital for 2 weeks with that

Was just coming to say the same. I was in for 12 days and they wanted to keep me in longer - however I was abroad and desperate to not miss my flight home. I was allowed out but had a home visit from my GP the day after I got back. It was a long recovery after that too.

Glad I was insured. The bill was astronomical.

whiteshutters · 17/01/2024 19:07

I had a full incision hysterectomy with the NHS and I was in for one week. I was home for 3 days then ended up back in again for another two days. Recovery took a while due to full horizontal incision. Every case is different.

Give it a rest. Even when the thread has nothing to do with Meghan, some sad person has to drag her name in.
