Yes but Robert Hardman knows Jack shit about the Queen in all honesty. Best case scenario he’s interviewed someone who says they think the Queen was probably pissed off over it. I think she was far more sensible and classy to make her feelings on the subject known to anyone.

Edited

And you know that how ?

Robert Hardman is a very well respected writer and has authored several books about the RF . He followed the King around for the first year of his reign and was behind the Boxing Day programme about the Coronation.
Clearly , he has the ear of the right people .

Itsagreatdaytosavelives · 15/01/2024 18:21

stop reading fucking shite in the daily mail. hth

stillavid · 15/01/2024 18:22

I think this book is an example of what Harry has called the briefing to the press that he objected too so much.

2024GarlicCloves · 15/01/2024 18:22

I can't image the Queen getting "furious" about anything except horses, dogs and intrusive documentaries. Mild indignation, perhaps. I bet what she really said was "Oh dear 🤨".

Mylovelygreendress · 15/01/2024 18:23

If their daughter is to be known as Lili why not simply call her that ?🤷‍♀️

I can’t help think that if William and Kate had used it, everyone would think it was wonderful.

I doubt it. They’re sticklers for formality.
Tbh if I were Doria or Carol I’d be slightly disappointed that their names weren’t considered.
I wonder what Lilibet will want to be known as when she grows older.

I don't like that couple but surely they can call their baby what they want

But why pick the name that was the Queen’s pet name when she was a child?

Whether they really liked it or not, it seemed to me like a pretty crass move, especially in the circumstances.

stillavid · 15/01/2024 18:25

I may be totally wrong but thought that Kate and William had to get permission for the actual names of their children?

keylemon · 15/01/2024 18:25

Yes, what a weird thing to say if you did not ask.

HeadNorth · 15/01/2024 18:25

People can call their kid anything they like in this country. It’s not like they called her Adolf. Total non story, says everything about what a car crash the Conservative government is that the Daily Hate put it on the front page.

Newchapterbeckons · 15/01/2024 18:27

It is very surprising to choose a name taken from the family you have just called ‘racist’ on the global stage I must say…..

Still I am sure it was a good move to secure the connection and $$$$$$

User1789 · 15/01/2024 18:28

Because of English libel law, the Daily Mail can't be sued for libel over something it claims a dead person made. As the Queen is now dead anybody and everybody could make a claim she said anything at all, even if proven to be false, and they could not be sued for libel.

lifesafunnyone · 15/01/2024 18:28

If you were a person who is brand savvy and you wanted to ensure your child had a personal brand in the future, this would be the way to do it.

I'm not saying that's what happened as I don't know any of the people involved but it's one way to look at it.

One of the Royal Journalist/talking heads in interview I saw said Queen had only once been known to be furious once before and that was to Fergie face when the toe sucking scandal happened - but that they had heard from several staff that she was about this as well.

So out of character - I wonder if it was accumulation of behaviors or commercialization fears or just fed up and ill and fed up with it all.

This is truly the stupidest shit I’ve ever read.

If it’s true, I think a lot less of the Queen for getting her knickers in a twist over it. It’s a fucking name for a baby.

If the Sussexes tried to get the palace to agree with the fact the Queen had given them pher blessing when she apparently hadn’t then they’re daft too. They didn’t need bloody permission, it’s a name, it’s a nice gesture, they didn’t need to give any kind of explanation for it and say they asked permission. All they had to say was ‘we did this thing and we’re happy with our choice’. My DC has the same name as my relative, I didn’t ask their permission I named them that and told them it was in honour of them and they were overjoyed.

This whole thing has gotten out of control and is just embarrassing now for all parties involved.

This, although I simply can’t believe that the Queen paid this much attention to a name.

I’m not a fan of the Royal Family but I always had a bit of a soft spot for The Queen. I assumed that she was a sensible woman who got on with the job and didn’t lower herself to be involved in nonsense like this.

If she is in fact the sort of woman triggered to this extent by the name of a baby, her own great grandchild mo less, then she clearly wasn’t the woman I thought she was. And as pp’s said, if she was angrier at this than Prince Andrew’s disgusting antics then her judgement was clearly as defective as his.

@MerryMarigold

Because it's polite to ask someone if you plan to name a child after them, my mother asked my grandmother and she said don't, I consequently have a different name to the one they originally chose

As is,so often said on mums net nobody owns a name not even the then Queen.

Because that was the queen’s nickname. Because the queen probably told Harry as a child that she was Lilibet and he may have called her granny Lilibet out of affection. Because Harry lost his own mum very young and probably clung to his grandmother as a maternal figure.

Lampzade · 15/01/2024 18:30

As far as I am concerned there are a lot more things to be ‘furious’ about than naming a child their great grandmother’s pet name.
I honestly can’t imagine the Queen being upset by this .
Dragging the Queen’s name through the mud.
She wasn’t that petty ffs
Another story to deflect from what she should have been ‘furious’ about which is the actions of her son and his close friendship with a convicted sex trafficker

Theunamedcat · 15/01/2024 18:31

Wasn't it Beatrice whose nanecwas changed from something else because the Queen didn't like the original name? It was one of the sisters I'm sure

angela1952 · 15/01/2024 18:32

EncantoSpice · 15/01/2024 16:26

Not surprised, such a rude thing to do

I agree, it was the Queen's pet name when she was a child so not really a suitable name. They could have called her Elizabeth?

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 15/01/2024 18:32

Maireas · 15/01/2024 18:14

Don't say that! You'll get into trouble for not googling!

😂

Such a common name in history and all over the internet that Harry and Meghan themselves say they asked for the Queen's blessing (which is the whole point of this story - she didn't give it). Why would they do that for a common or garden name?

I'm off to teach my group of young ladies now. There are at least 3 new Lillibets starting tonight, not sure I'm going to be able to tell them apart!

Really? How very odd. Do you know what reason she gave?

Lifeomars · 15/01/2024 18:33

So we have bitterly cold weather at a time when many people are struggling to pay for their heating, we have the most unpopular government for decades and an opinion poll showing that they are likely to be crushed at the next election, there is conflict raging in so many places on the planet, there is the very real prospect that Trump will be returned to the White House and the Mail leads with this nonsense.

MaturingCheeseball · 15/01/2024 18:33

This is so daft - posters suggesting that M&H came up with this name quite independently Grin and it is nothing unusual.

I think if the Queen was angry it was because it was the last straw: not the name per se. At the time M&H had just done Oprah and were in full “horrible rf” mode. So then to use a pet name, trademark it, and then lie about seeking permission, must have made her very frustrated with Harry.
