I'm quite puzzled by the apparent perception amongst Prince Harry's supporters that, if you don't support everything he does, you must be frothing and hysterical. Do they not accept that it's possibly to hold a different opinion perfectly genuinely and after mature consideration?
I was team Harry-and-Meghan for quite a long time. I thought Meghan came over as, potentially, an intelligent woman who could contribute a lot to the Royal Family and the UK. The fact that she is mixed race is nothing but a bonus.
I know just what you mean, Anisette. I was so happy at the time of their wedding and thought it was a new chapter for the RF. I was very moved by the sight of Doria sitting there, having a quiet cry, during the ceremony and loved the way Charles held out his hand to her - especially since she was the only family member from Meghan's side. (Since then we've learned more about this lack of family presence, and it doesn't reflect well on H or M.)
But oh dear, it all went so wrong. Yes, Meghan was savaged by the press and some of its Neanderthal readers, but then so was Kate (not on racial grounds, but on grounds of class and for having such a long 'engagement'). They can be vile, for sure. It's one of the crosses the RF have to bear and they usually do without comment. But I genuinely doubt that any senior member of the RF or their staff would have been anything but thrilled at this great new chapter and PR opportunity.
It's such a tragic lost opportunity in so many ways. Over the years I've changed my view to conclude that Harry is dim, deluded and utterly entitled. I think Meghan is intelligent and has manipulated him, and the situation, to get what she wanted all along. She comes over as egotistical and attention-seeking, and that was probably one of the stumbling blocks to her fitting in to royal life. No reason why she should, of course, but that was the understanding at one time, and the reason for all the hoo-ha and the expensive wedding etc.
I don't hate them, and I don't froth. I think they're in a blind alley, though, career-wise, having burnt their bridges. I'm not bothered for their sakes but I feel sorry for those children - who, apart from anything else, only have Doria as a relation! If the marriage breaks down it will be really rotten for them too.
