@Roussette The article mentions racism but doesn't give any examples.
As far as I am aware, there is the twitter thing by famous presenter who showed a monkey. Apparantly he had previosuly shown members of the RF as monkeys/apes, and (he says) had not realised the racism links.
I do not really follow twitter, so going from memory here.
The only newspaper article I know of is the reference to 'straight out of compton', which as someone who lives in the UK, and does not know the US, I assumed to be about social classs.
There were articles in the Netflix documentary, I think, but these were apparantly made up, as they could not find anything.

Roussette · 16/01/2024 12:21

milvey Boris Johnson's sister talking of 'exotic blood' entering the RF not racist enough?

This is just speculation. I would like you to link the racist articles you say exist.

It is not speculation. Read the article Amara123 provided.

That pesky Yank coming over here and giving her daughter a name she hasn't earned the right to do. More insanity. Celia Walden (wife of Piers Morgan) has spoken. It's all the woman's fault.
'mothers tend to have more sway than fathers when it comes to choosing baby names'
I think we can all agree that ''Lillibet'' had Meghan stamped all over it.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/columnists/2024/01/15/harry-and-meghan-lilibet-nickname-queen/
Meghan still not accepted.

She's right though however much you dislike her. Meghan hardly knew the Queen and chose to name her daughter by a nickname used by a tiny amount of people. I'll never forget the sketch Meghan did with Melissa McCarthy where Melissa was wearing a cabbage hat and laughing at the English upper classes. We all know that Philip called the Queen 'cabbage'. Meghan had no respect for the Queen. Or rather she was furious that the Palace thwarted her half in half out scheme.

How sexist, why assume Meghan named THEIR daughter? Surely it's more likely Harry pushed for her to be called Lilibet since he's the one with more personal connections to the queen?

And no, we don't 'all know that Philip called the Queen 'Cabbage''.

BrittleVeneers · 16/01/2024 12:35

The Queen was Harry’s grandmother and his child, the Queen’s great granddaughter, is named after her.

Celia Walden should be called out for the ‘Meghan didn’t earn it’ bullshit.

Celia is absolutely right and most people agree with her.

OP posts:
Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 16/01/2024 12:42

Anyone who has watched the crown know he called her ‘cabbage’. Certainly her grandson would have know. It comes off as childish, unnecessary point scoring. Like the name and saying that she never had to sign an NDA with the implication that she can sell stories.

Like the quip about ‘service being universal’ coming off as childish and the disingenuous statement about being forced not to wear colours (probably not true). And the moaning about the free flat they were given being too small and the IKEA sofas and complaining about not being paid for Royal duties. It all seems quite petty and small minded. There is plenty of first hand evidence that H&M are quite entitled and self centred. Not really sure why people see them as these noble human beings.

BrittleVeneers · 16/01/2024 12:44

Most people agree with Walden? 😂 Like it’s a fact! 😂

This is only a story because Harry and Meghan made it a story at the time by assuring everyone they had the Queen’s blessing. If they’d stayed silent, which is often the best PR move, then it wouldn’t be a big thing.

They can, of course, call their child whatever they like. However, if this was a thread on AIBU (We’ve chosen my elderly grandmother’s personal pet nickname, used only my her deceased husband and parents, as our baby name and she is upset. AIBU) and then there was a massive drip feed about a family falling out, I expect the OP would get roundly roasted for being a dick.

If people took off their ‘I hate the royals’ goggles and looked at it as falling out between any average family then it does look shitty on the part of Harry and Meghan. If they put an elderly lady in that position then no wonder she was upset.

I probably wouldnt read the post as it's trivial.

This just goes to show that you are dazzled by material possessions as opposed to the reality of life. The Queen didn't own these things.

She wouldn't have been able to pay off a trafficked child if she wasn't rich though.

Haha that made me laugh. The woman is married to Piers Morgan for god sake

UserM6 · 16/01/2024 13:01

The only things we do know if that both of them find the Royal family problematic and yet they still chose titles for their children and called their daughter the Queens nickname. Its pretty self serving and crass at best.

No one owns a name but conversely that means they were free to pick name they wanted. Elizabeth would have been been one thing, but the pet name of the head of the British monarchy is clearly something else.

For a pair escaping TRF they sure do everything they can to link themselves to them.

Good point. I’m surprised the Daily Hate didn’t run a sad face story on the poor old lady using her meagre savings on her pervert son.

This is a really great example of why “never complain, never explain” is effective.

You ask constantly why Harry and Meghan get the scrutiny, as if you, yourself would be above it. But the moment you get a little info, here you are doing the exact same thing you say you revile.

Harry and Meghan have provided us with endless explanations and complaints. People taking notice of it are just responding the same way you have here. The amount of material they provide is just much greater than the others.

CoffeeCantata · 16/01/2024 13:21

I don't claim to know who said what to who and when, but when I first heard of the choice of name I cringed.

It was a toddler's nickname, and to anyone with any sensitivity, is clearly an intimate family matter - not the sort of thing which ought to become public property. My children had many nicknames (too twee to mention here!) and it would be embarrassing and intrusive if someone used them and linked them to their original owners.

I can't remember when Lillibet Sussex was born (sorry, cba to Google) but if it was after the departure from the UK and particularly if it was after the Oprah interview, then I'm absolutely stunned at the audacity of their thinking that name would be OK with QUII. What on earth were they thinking? If they wanted to honour the Queen why not just call the little girl Elizabeth, which is not so deeply personal?

And yes - as another pp said - why not Doria?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/01/2024 13:24

The BBC report from June 2021 is still on the website

I know, @Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar, but it's the retraction/apology the BBC was alleged to have made I was asking about.
Obviously this would change things, but as is stands getting Schillings to send letters about a report H&M just don't like looks a bit silly if that report's true

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/01/2024 13:31

Apologies, @WinnieTheW0rm - too late to edit my post - I saw after replying to the PP that you also mentioned the article still being there

So in the absence of evidence it looks as if the claim about the BBC was made up

That's quite easy to remember. Meghan was visibly pregnant, with Lili, during the interview. IIRC, they said in the interview that she was expecting a girl

it was ~2 months after the DofE died

It is definitely more than likely that Harry wanted his child to be named after his beloved grandmother.
Meghan probably agreed because she knew how much Harry adored the Queen
It is obvious ( despite what their detractors say) that Harry had a close relationship with the Queen
